The pictures that tell you to "Please wait while Windows is shutting
down" and that "It is now safe to turn off your computer" seem to get uglier
with every successive version of Windows. Here's how to replace
them with Whitney Houston pictures:
Make copies of the files
LOGO.SYS (if you have one -- not all versions of
Windows95 do!), LOGOS.SYS and
LOGOW.SYS in a temporary
folder. LOGO.SYS is located in your
root directory ( "C:\" ). The other files are located initially in your
Windows folder.
LOGOW.SYS is
the one that reads "Please wait while...," and LOGOS.SYS is
the one that reads "It is now safe to turn off your computer".
The LOGO.SYS is the start-up screen that is pictured at the top right of this page.
Now you can download Whitney Houston startup and shutdown
screens. This requires WinZip (free software).
You can download the program at www.winzip.com.
Download the start-up screen of your choice, unzip it, then put it in your "C:\" (root) directory.
Download logos.sys, the shutdown screen: (logos-sys.zip 90 KB)
Unzip it, then put it in your "C:\Windows" directory.
Download logow.sys, the waiting screen: (logow-sys.zip 54 KB)
Unzip it, then put it in your "C:\Windows" directory.
Note: If you're using DriveSpace or another disk compression
utility, and want to create your own startup screen (as described above),
make sure you put LOGO.SYS in the root directory of your host drive
(which may not be drive C:\).
If you don't have WinZip, download it at www.winzip.com.
