Whitney, as befits her role as heir to the greats of R&B and soul music, has an intense interest in its history. In the video for "I'm Your Baby Tonight," she appears to sing in each of a number of ages of black music, from the Harlem Renaissance to the Motown Girl Groups to the present day.

- The Bodyguard was written nearly 25 years ago, by Lawrence Kasdan, but didn't get made until Kevin Costner decided he wanted to produce and star in the film. Whitney was his first choice for the role of Rachel Marron, but he had to convince her to appear. "I promised her two things: that I would be right there with her, and she would not be bad, because I refuse to let anyone fail around me," Costner told Hilary De Vries. It was the best thing he could have said, Whitney admitted.

- The song that was Whitney's choir debut at the age of twelve was "Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah."

Did you know that Whitney did a private gig, for the wedding of the Sultan of Brunei's daughter's wedding? (1996) She earned over a million dollars! (submitted by Sadiq V.)

Little known part of my Whitney Houston collection:
Whitney sang a song called "Memories" on an album called "One Down", produced by "Material", when she was sixteen. She was very good, with superstar qualities, even back then!

Why Whitney chose THE BODYGUARD for her acting debut (taken from the book "One Moment In Time"):

"The thing about it was that I just didn't want to do just any old film for the sake of it. I'd been sent scripts over the years but didn't feel that any of them were at all suitable. The one for "The Bodyguard" came. I was determined that whatever I chose to do , it would have to be something that 'added-up,' not just be a case of "oh, look , she did a film , how nice , Whitney's in the movies , etc...". I mean it took me a while to find a script that I was happy with like "The Bodyguard." I waited a long time for something like that to come along and I think that if I play my cards that way and am smart enough about what I choose to do, not just doing anything for the sake of it , then I can keep the momentum going. Besides, Hollywood's happy!"
