Whitney Takes Poland! submitted by: RTWM date: Sept. 7, 1999 source: August 22/99 concert that aired on Polish TV After days of anguish and anticipation, I finally recieved my trade-in from Agna, a Polish WH-fan. She submitted a very positive review and I could not wait to see for myself. WOW! This concert was great! It started with some kind of background elevator music, reminiscent of the South Africa '94 concert. Then WH came down white staircase. But it wasn't the same set as the North American tour. It was very similar to the set they used on last year's Billboard Awards (when WH sang "Hearbreak Hotel" w/ Faith and Kelly). Same thing, just slightly different colours. It's not as wacky and original as the North American tour stage, but it was very nice. WH was wearing light blue jeans with a white sequence belt, a black turtle neck, boots, and a nice Dolce e Gabbana overcoat which was black with a wide violet lining. WH had black leather gloves on. Her hair was like the June 1999 Oprah Show. The audience was filled with Whitney Worshippers who made big signs that said "We love you Whitney", "Raise the roof, Whitney", "You Are Our Queen"... GIB: dancers were wearing the same outfits from the June 1999 Oprah Show. Even though Whitney is singing to the track, the background singers and the band "fake it" to look like they're actually singing. As if Gary Garland can sound like Brandy's background vocals. Whatever. You didn't fool me! HH: WH sang this song and wanted to get the audience to sing the "key parts" of the song (example: "that you were cheating on meeeee") with her, but somebody didn't tell WH that that song was not a single in most of Europe, so they don't know that song by heart. What made my eyes widen was when WH ended HH and went into the Jacksons' version of "Heartbreak Hotel" in an a cappella adlib. I almost died! WH does the Jacksons' version so well, you're left wishing she'd done the whole song! [FYI: The Jacksons' version of "Heartbreak Hotel" is on their CD released 1981.]IITYT: WH holds the note "don't want this to eeeeeeeeeeend", and she moved the "bossy" part to the end of the song ("I said if I told you! if I told you! if I told you that"). Very nicely done.SAML4Y: Almost acappella. WH's high notes were there, but not w/o a little bit of strain. Just a little bit. Barely noticeable to a non-psycho fan. WH blows into the crips Polish air to show how cold it is. You can see her (warm) breath dissappear into the cold air, like smoke from a pipe. WH also says one wrong word in this song -- when U watch it, see if you can catch it. UYCB: good performance. Exhale (Shoop, Shoop): WH sings this EXCELLENT!!! Different adlibs that I had not heard before! Oh yeeees! The audience is invited to "shoop". Polish ppl did the "shoop, shoop" part, but omitted the "shoo-be-doop" part. WH called it "excellent" and "lovely". Whatever. The audience looked like they were enjoing it. SBS: The audience immediately recognized this song. WH comes in too early and has to pause so the band can catch up. oops! Gary: sings Eric Clapton's song "Change The World". Again. Like, Gary, I love you but you sang this song just last year in the 1998 European tour. Pick a new song! Jeez! Wardrobe change: WH only changed the overcoat. This time, she came out with that ugly thing she opened the Toronto show with. It was a long red/pink/black semi tye-died, semi cow-patched furr coat. UGLY!!! It looked even uglier than I remember when I saw it on TV. WH wears this for the remainder of the concert. I hope she doesn't wear that on any concert that will air in the USA cuz the media will have a field day with that ugly coat. Oh, and did I mention how ugly it was? Dolce e Gabbana should bow their heads with SHAME! IEW: ok. IWDWS remix: nice dance @ the end. HWIK: shy little boy gets to meet + hug WH on stage. His name is Viktor. Very cute. ILTL: excellent!!! IG2TR: great! WH does some different ad libs I have not heard before. WH + her dancers do "the church march" on stage. Kewl! MLIYL: The crowd goes wild when the recognize this summer hit! BK is getting better and better. She is no longer just standing there. She dances w/ Wh on cue now, and sways to the music. Her little "clap your hands" has been elaborated to "my name is Bobbi and I'm here to say clap your hands". She did it a cappella for a bit when they did a break down, all the while WH sang acappella with just the drums. EXCELLENT!!! Movie Medley: good. The crowd loved "WDIHSB". IWALY: WH nails the end of the song!!! High notes -- no problemo! Wow! [BTW it was still better in Toronto, but anyways]. Wardrobe change / encore: WH only changed her coat and wiped the sweat off her face. This time, she wore the green furr coat from the end of "Divas Live 1999". Persecutionist added a latin feel to the song at the end. Very nice. I wish the original song would have been like that, instead of the glockenschpeil. Audience wants another encore, but the announcer says "Whitney has left the building". THE END. If you want this video, you can get it on the Buy-Sell-Trade page! It's worth getting! This concert is not as good as Brazil '94, but it's better than some concertd (Japan 1990).Site design by: Dolphin Webpage Designs © |
