City Wants $100K From Whitney submitted by: RTWM date: Friday, August 27, 1999 source: Wall Of Sound Officials in Concord, Calif., are asking Whitney Houston to pay as much as $100,000 after the diva canceled a concert there at the 11th hour. Houston scrapped her Aug. 1 appearance at the Concord Pavilion approximately 15 minutes before show time, citing illness. More than 5,000 fans were already at the venue when the announcement was made, and promoters said that more than 8,500 tickets had been sold for the show. "We spent advertising dollars, dollars to prepare the facility, dollars for catered meals required for the artist and crew," a Pavilion rep told the Associated Press. "All those kinds of things are virtually wasted when a last-minute cancellation occurs." The Pavilion is owned and operated by the city of Concord.
The concert was not rescheduled. Houston is currently performing in Europe.
