Three Divas and a Tenor

Grammy-winning songwriter David Foster is trying to convince Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion to go on tour with opera star Andrea Bocelli for Three Divas and a Tenor, reports the New York Daily News.

The paper says the surefire musical blockbuster - think of it as a very high-maintenance version of the super-successful "Three Tenors" series with Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras - could play a handful of cities, including New York, Las Vegas, Monte Carlo, and Rio de Janeiro.

Each performance would reportedly be broadcast on pay-per-view, with the requisite CD and other marketing ventures to follow. The big-lunged singers share three labels between them, and the paper speculates that the promise of green could convince the record companies to sponsor the tour.

There's no telling what the divas would earn for their troubles, but you can bet it will be enough to keep them in nails, wigs, and designer gowns for years to come.

The Daily News reports that Streisand has told Foster she's "intrigued" by the idea, but a source says, "She wants to have final say over what gets sung." It also doesn't help that Babs is in the middle of recording her new album, a collection of love songs that she's supposedly going to support with a tour.

Dion, whose duet with Bocelli on Foster's tune "The Prayer" at last week's Grammys was one of the show's highlights, is also pretty well booked this year, and she's announced her intention to take time off in 2000.

Meanwhile, Foster's rep tells the Daily News that there are indeed talks going on with the divas, but insists, "It's too soon to talk about."
