VH1 Divas Live/99' With Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Elton John, Brandy, Cher, Mary J. Blige, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes and Chaka Khan Set for Nov. 2nd In-Store in CD/Cassette and Home Video Editions

NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Oct. 7, 1999--

Highest-rated broadcast in VH1 history to benefit VH1 Save The Music initiative supporting music education in public schools

The second annual gathering of the world's reigning vocal divas, collectively known as VH1 DIVAS LIVE/99 - this year starring Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Elton John, Brandy, Cher, Mary J. Blige, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, and Chaka Khan - has been scheduled for November 2nd in-store date on Arista. (Please see following page for track listing and artists.)

The all-star concert, broadcast live on VH1 from the Beacon Theatre in New York on Tuesday night, April 13th, became the highest-rated single broadcast in VH1 history. It was repeated immediately afterward, then nightly through the following Sunday. The show benefited VH1 Save the Music, a pro-social initiative that supports music education in public schools. Last year's RIAA gold album VH1 Divas Live (which has sold 3 million copies worldwide) is expected to raise $1.5 million for VH1 Save the Music.

This year's show was propelled by the electrifying collaborations between artists, for example Tina Turner and Elton John teamed for "The Bitch Is Back" ("scorching," raved the Newark Star-Ledger); then Cher joined them on "Proud Mary." There was Brandy's duet with Faith Hill on "Everything I Do, I Do for You" ("a big hit with the crowd," said the New York Post); and Whitney Houston's pairings with Mary J. Blige on their tribute to Aretha Franklin, "Ain't No Way" ("the concert's best diva showcase," according to the New York Times) and with Chaka Khan on "I'm Every Woman," her 1978 hit that was remade into an anthem by Whitney 15 years later.

Whitney's performance which included "I Will Always Love You" was described as "invincible" in the New York Times by Jon Pareles, who noted that Tina Turner "seized her songs with a voice that attacked, then moaned, then soothed."
