Dancing Queen
submitted by: Bud M.
source: Extra TV
Date: September 3, 1999

Do you recognize this woman? Chances are you don't. But she's got some serious clout in Hollywood. She's just been named one of the 100 most creative people in showbiz by Entertainment weekly. EXTRA finds out that even if her face may not be famous, you'll certainly recognize her fancy footwork.

She lasoed sharp shooter Will Smith in "Wild Wild West, put a funky hip hop in Brandy's baby step and even taught the king of pop to walk like an Egyptian. She's Fatima Robinson, Hollywood's hottest choreographer. Believe it or not, this 27-year-old, whose funky soul dance moves have her in high demand, has never even had a formal dance lesson. She tells EXTRA that it wasn't something that she dreamed of, it was just something that she just happened to have this talent to do.

Fatima even got her big break by accident. She was cast as an extra in the movie "Boyz 'N the Hood" after director John Singleton spotted her at a dance contest. Then to her surprise, he asked her to choreograph a Michael Jackson video and her career took off. The dancer says her specialty is pulling out things in people they never knew they had. Example number one, actor Will Smith. Fatima whipped up this lasoeing hip thrust move for the G-man and he pulled it off flawlessly in his Wild Wild West video.

So she can chill With will, but she has also masterminded dance moves for notoriously difficult divas like Whitney Houston and managed to come away unscathed. But EXTRA wondered if it was really possible to get down and get along with all these high profile egos. So we asked and though she admitted to a couple of clashes, she won't reveal whom. But she did say her favorite clients were the hunky Backstreet Boys whom she taught the teeny bop pop routines that electrify their fans.

And now, Fatima's going in front of the camera herself. She choreographs and stars in a funky Gap soul commercial and has also just finished her own cutting edge dance video, which teaches you the moves that made her famous.
So does it work?
