Houston Was Destined To Be a Diva submitted by: Dan L. source: Associated Press Date: July 5, 1999
NEW YORK (AP) - Born into a musical family, Whitney Houston just knew she was destined to be a diva.
Her pedigree includes being the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston and a cousin of Dionne Warwick. The 35-year-old singer's accomplishments include 11 No. 1 singles and a slew of Grammy Awards. ``I knew when I started I wasn't like anyone else - not my mother, my cousin, or anyone else,'' Houston says in Sunday's Daily News. ``I walked into the business with faith. I didn't walk into it trying to believe. I did believe. Somehow I knew this is what I would do.'' Married to singer Bobby Brown, Houston relishes her role as wife and mother to their 6-year-old daughter. What she doesn't like about her life is what she reads.
``A lot of things surprised me,'' she said.
``That the tabloids would think people are more
interested in my life than my music, that all
they seem to want to know is what's going on in
my bedroom - or any of my rooms.''
