Arista Gloats submitted by: Dan L. source: Newswire Date: June 25, 1999 Sarah McLachlan's 'MIRRORBALL' and Santana's 'SUPERNATURAL' Earn Record-setting Billboard Album Chart Debuts This Week; Sarah McLachlan, Santana, Mase, and TLC all inside top 20 NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--June 25, 1999-- No-end-in-sight' success includes chart runs by Whitney Houston, Monica, Deborah Cox, 112, Naughty By Nature; LFO is on-the-way Arista Records celebrates an eye-opening total of four albums inside the top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart this week (issue dated July 3rd). This is highlighted by Sarah McLachlan and Carlos Santana, who simultaneously locked up two of the biggest Billboard 200 chart debuts of their career this week. At the same time, Bad Boy recording artist Mase debuts at No. 11, while LaFace's TLC holds strong in the top 20 after 17 weeks. Long-distance chart runs by Whitney Houston, Monica, Deborah Cox, and Bad Boy's 112 contribute to Arista's strong presence, along with the label debut of Naughty By Nature. Newcomers LFO are set to explode with their debut Arista single being the most added single for the second week in a row. Leading the charge this week is Sarah McLachlan, whose brand-new live album, MIRRORBALL, registered nearly a quarter-million first week Soundscan sales to garner an extraordinary "Hot- Shot Debut" entry at No. 3 (behind Back Street Boys and Ricky Martin). MIRRORBALL also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top (10) Internet Album Sales chart as well as Soundscan's unpublished Current Alternative Albums chart (No. 1 debut) and Current Alternative Albums/Core Stores chart (No. 1 debut). Santana's first Arista album, SUPERNATURAL, produced by Clive Davis and Carlos Santana, bulleted in at No. 19. At the same time, the album debuts at No. 1 on Billboard's influential Latin 50 chart; and at No. 10 on the Internet Album Sales chart. This marks the highest album sales debut ever for the band, who was signed to its first ever record deal by Davis when he was President of Columbia Records. Additionally, in its first week out, the album's first single, "Smooth," with Rob Thomas of matchbox 20, was No. 1 most added at Rock radio. McLachlan and Santana will be highly visible on television in the days and weeks ahead. On "Late Night with David Letterman" this Friday (June 25th), Santana will perform the album's first single, "Smooth" with Rob Thomas of matchbox 20. On August 7th, VH1's "Hard Rock Live" series premieres an hour-long segment starring Santana and current album contributors Dave Matthews, Everlast, and Wyclef Jean proteges The Product G&B. In support of MIRRORBALL and its first single, "I Will Remember You," Sarah McLachlan is set to begin the third (and final) North American summer tour of Lilith Fair outdoor festival dates. On July 15th, she will make an appearance on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno. Mase's second album for Bad Boy Records, DOUBLE UP, took an outstanding 72-point jump up the Top R&B Albums chart this week (to No. 2) as it crossed over to debut on the pop side at No. 11- bullet. The album is propelled by the new single, "Get Ready," featuring Blackstreet. After 17 weeks, TLC's triple-platinum album FANMAIL (No. 14 pop/No. 15 R&B) is as strong as ever, bolstered by "No Scrubs," the No. 1 pop and No. 1 R&B RIAA gold first single, and its follow- up new hit, "Unpretty." WHITNEY HOUSTON: Soundscan sales will have a big increase for the album MY LOVE IS YOUR LOVE next week as her single "It's Not Right, But It's Okay," jumps from 11 to 4 and Whitney had the entire "Oprah" show this week, where she sang the title-tune single, the current hit "It's Not Right, But It's OK," and one of her career-making all-time anthems, "The Greatest Love Of All." MONICA: Past double-platinum in its 49th week on the Pop and R&B album charts, THE BOY IS MINE is expected to ride high all the way through Christmas on the strength of "Street Symphony," the new fourth single, follow-up to "Angel Of Mine," "The First Night," and the Grammy-winning title tune "The Boy Is Mine," Monica's duet with Brandy. Radio has already testified "Right Here Waiting" is the album's fifth hit. DEBORAH COX: Her ONE WISH album (38 weeks on the charts) is ready to hit RIAA platinum as the new single, "We Can't Be Friends" (a duet with R.L. of Next) is exploding at radio and is the follow- up to "It's Over Now" and record breaking hit "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here." 112: After 32 weeks out, the RIAA platinum ROOM 112 album notches up a third single, "Love You Like I Did" (No. 1 most-added last week), follow- up to "Love Me" and "Anywhere." NAUGHTY BY NATURE: nineteen naughty nine NATURE'S FURY, their fourth career album (and first for Arista) bullets up the Top R&B and Top Rap Albums charts as radio catches on to "Jamboree," follow- up to the radio track, "Live Or Die" featuring No Limit stars Mystikal and Silkk The Shocker.
