A Fan Interviews Whitney in Person submitted by: Q. T. source: FAN attic Date: Dec. 6, 1998 You want details,No problem! Well the MTV-Whitney journey all started back in July. I was watching MTV's show FANatic and i told my mom I was going to send a tape. I was a little apprehnsive because I only saw teenagers as fans on the show. Then one day I saw a woman crazy over Van Halen, and she was 36. Me being 24 didn't seem too old to me any more. My sister taped me doing a video. Basicly it was 15-16 minutes of me telling how whitney has influenced my life, and how she has been a positive black role model for me since 1985. I told some crazy things I used to do in the name of whitney back in high school, and middle school--such as entering contest as whitney knowing i could not hold a note period, or better yet trying to get whitney to come and speak/sing at my high school graduation, and bombarding her assistants with mailto support my request. I sent the tape off with a letter. When I didn't hear from anyone after 30 days I thought oh well I gave it my best shot.. then almost 3 weeks ago, I get a call from the producer of the MTV show fanatic telling me I was in a cast of hundreds to meet/and interview whitney.. Ijumped up and down screaming ofcourse after hearing that.. Then they asked me for some numbers of about 5-10 friends to validate my whitney stories and true fanhood. I learned later that I had made the top 10. That took place for about 2 days then, a friend of mine asked me to go and play basketball, I was skeptical, but I said sure (it's been awile since i played). after 30 minutes of playing i got the surprise of my life!!!!!!!!My friend had driven 2 hours to meet the mtv crew in my hometown to tell me that i had been chosen to meet whitney. I flipped!!! We were whisked away in a limo, taken to the airport, and flown to NYC. This was a dream come true, Rachel as i'm sure you can relate. The next day I was to interview Ms. Whitney Houston-Brown. I was nervous to say the least. Also Because I was surprised by such fantastic news i didnt have time to get my braids redone, or any fly gear---so if you see me on tv somehow (so sorry canada doesnt get MTV? that is terrible!!) please forgive my appearance, but who knew i was going to mee whitney on mtv?? Anyway back to the meat of the story..The day I interviewed her was truly glorious. We embraced on sight..The interview was only suppose to be 15 minutes long Iwas later told by the producers, it end up being 40 minutes. whitney and i clicked..the creator of the show said even said so....I was blown away at whitney's and I immediate bondship and the creator's comments (the article done on my experience can possibly be found on the net www. The state Journal Register.com or something like that so you wont think i'm making any of this up) Rachel, only God could have made this day flow this perfectly...Whitney was sooooo Coooooool. I got great pictures, she signed my 1985 album, and really took time out to have a conversation with me, and not just answer questions... She was great, but ofcourse you already know that... I feel honored to share my experience with a fellow Whitney fan..I hope someway you get a chance to see it...if you have anymore questions feel free to e-mail me... Take care Rachel...
Peace Q.
