Clint Black, Natalie Cole and Elmo to Perform Live on "Tony Bennett: An All Star Tribute -- Live by Request" Airing on A&E Network on Monday, Dec. 7 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1998-- Live Performances Part of Celebrity Tribute to Bennett Honoring His 50th Anniversary in the Entertainment Industry Singers Clint Black and Natalie Cole, along with Sesame Street's Elmo will all be on hand to perform live tributes to legendary performer Tony Bennett as part of "Tony Bennett: An All Star Tribute -- Live by Request," airing on the A&E network on Monday, Dec. 7 from 9-11 p.m. ET. "Tony Bennett: An All Star Tribute," is a special edition of A&E's Emmy and Cable Ace award-winning performance series honoring Tony Bennett's 50th year anniversary in the entertainment industry. The show's unique format, which allows the viewing audience to call the performer and request their favorite songs live during the broadcast through a special 800 number, was developed by Bennett himself, making this a particularly fitting venue in which to honor the eight-time Grammy winner. Tony Bennett will perform the song requests made during the broadcast accompanied by the Ralph Sharon Quartet. Marc McEwen, the anchor of CBS This Morning, will host the program. The show will be broadcast live from the Sony Music Studios in New York City. Clint Black will perform "Cold, Cold Heart," which was a No. 1 hit for Bennett in 1951 and was the first country song to cross over to the pop charts. Sesame Street's Elmo will sing a duet with Tony Bennett of a song, "Little Things," which the two performed on Bennett's latest album, "The Playground." Natalie Cole is also scheduled to perform a song associated with the singer. Other celebrities who are confirmed to participate in the program include: First Lady Hilary Clinton, Madonna, Sting, Billy Joel, Harrison Ford, WHITNEY HOUSTON, k.d. lang, Carol Burnett, Billy Crystal, Jay Leno, Cameron Diaz, Rosemary Clooney, George Clooney and Joe Pesci. In addition to the televised portion of the broadcast, "Tony Bennett: An All Star Tribute -- Live by Request" will be simulcast over the Media America Radio Networks as well as webcast live online via www.livebyrequest.com. The webcast will offer three different camera angles to view Bennett's and special guest performances, email song requests live and have access to on-demand text, including discographies, biographical information and song lyrics.
The unique interactive concept that initiated the Live by Request series was created by Tony Bennett and developed by his son and manager, Danny Bennett, along with Paul Rappaport of Columbia Records and Mitch Maketansky. A&E's "Tony Bennett: An All Star Tribute -- Live by Request" will be directed by Larry Jordon and produced by Automatic Productions in association with A&E Network.
