HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Singer Whitney Houston is putting on her filmmaker's hat by producing a romantic comedy called "How to Marry a Black Man," about the friendship between two professional women and their experiences with love. The film will be based on "How to Marry a Black Man: The Real Deal," a how-to guide written by Monique Jellerette deJongh and Cassandra Marshall Cato-Louis and published by Doubleday last year. The comedy hopes to capitalize on the success of "Waiting to Exhale" and the growing popularity of how-to books such as "The Rules" and "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" -- both of which have been optioned for film as well.
Houston's Disney-based company, Houston Productions, optioned the book as
well as the authors' life stories last February. Kimberly Greene and Camille
Tucker have signed on to write the script.
