WHITNEY HOUSTON
Whitney Houston may not have been the box-office draw Touchstone had hoped she'd be with "The Preacher's Wife" -- but the songstress continues to pack a wallop with the soundtrack. While the album is leaping over various charts, the 60 million dollar film, of which Whitney was reportedly paid 10 million, bombed at the theaters opening weekend, with an estimated 7 million in returns. Weeks prior to the film's opening, movie critics pondered whether or not Whitney and Denzel Washington had enough star power to pull in huge cross-over audiences. While that appears not to be the case with this particular film, Whitney says even after three films, she's still feeling her way through the acting game. "I'm probably more comfortable with the atmosphere and what happens in it," she says, "but I'm not sure if I'll ever be that confident. I will ask for help when I need it. I'm not shame. I have no shame in my game." Even still, Whitney continues trudging through the Hollywood biz. Her Houston Productions company is currently developing the long ballyhooed Dorothy Dandrige story (for which she still has not decided whether she'll star in or not). Plus she'll be producing an adaptation of Cinderella for television in which singer/actress Brandy will star. "Oh I think that Brandy is probably the freshest thing we've seen on TV in a long time," says Whitney. "She has that quality of a princess. She's very soft spoken, but she knows what she wants. She and I have talked extensively, and I have studied her and I've watched her. (As) somebody who she considers to be a mentor, I can honestly say that Brandy's going to make a great Cinderella."
