Bobby's Out, Is Whitney? submitted by: Lisa D. source: Access Hollywood, Extra Date: March 23, 2004 Bobby Brown was released from jail on Monday after a judge learned he was expected at an emergency hearing in family court. Will Whitney Houston join Bobby as he travels from jail cell to courtroom? Has the pop diva checked out of rehab? According to Whitney's spokesperson, a report claiming that Houston "bailed out" of rehab is unfounded and the singer is exactly where she's supposed to be. Access confirmed that Houston has completed the first phase of her treatment, which is the physical detox. She has now moved to a private facility for phase two as she continues on the road to recovery. Houston's camp says she's not alone at this time, the new phase involves many other patients going through the same treatment. "Well, our sources tell us that the hospital officials really didn't want Whitney to leave," said In Touch magazine's Susan Houriet. In their report, In Touch claims that Whitney is indeed finishing treatment alone. "She rented a private mansion outside of Atlanta in Norcross, Ga., and she plans to do a 30-day private drug rehab," Houriet told Access. Meanwhile, upon his release from jail, Brown told press the first thing he was going to do was "go to church." "This is the last time you'll see me coming out of here," said Brown to the cameras. But before he could head home or to church, Brown's presence is required Wednesday for a contempt hearing in a paternity suit. It seems the mother of one of Brown's illegitimate children has a problem with Bobby's child support payments. Though Brown didn't discuss the hearing, he did have some departing words as he left Georgia. "For me, myself, my wife and my family, if you could just do us a favor and just let us live for a little while, and enjoy each other, get some sobriety... Enjoy your lives and we're going to try to enjoy ours. God bless you all," he said. Bobby Brown Vows to Clean It Up -- But Where's Whitney? Did Whitney Houston leave rehab behind? Tuesday, In Touch magazine reported that the diva threw a tantrum and bailed out of her treatment program. They claim Houston rented a mansion and scheduled private treatment for 30 days. But Houston's reps insisted to "Extra" that this was not true. The new worries about Houston come just one day after her husband Bobby Brown played a surprise get-out-of-jail-free card, Monday. Brown told reporters that after getting out of jail he would "go to church." But for once, his loyal wife wasn't there to greet him with her customary open arms and loving kiss. In a poignant role reversal, Houston's bad-boy hubby vowed to stand by his woman, and clean up his own act as well. Brown spoke about Houston and their future together after being released a month early from a Georgia County jail. "This is the last time you'll see me coming out of here or going in," Brown told reporters. "Thank you for your support, all the people out there for myself, my wife and my family." Brown was serving a 60-day sentence for violating probation on a drunk driving rap, but got sprung so he could be in a Boston court this week for an unrelated child-support hearing. Whitney was foremost on her husband's mind as he promised to get sober right along with her: "If you can just do us a favor and let us live for a while and enjoy each other. Get some sobriety, you know, enjoy your lives and we're going to enjoy ours." Meanwhile, lending perspective on Houston's struggle was none other than Liza Minnelli, whose lifelong battle with drugs and booze is well documented. "Extra" caught up with Minnelli at the opening of a new rehab center for the Caron Foundation, which Minnelli credits with helping her get sober. "This is a disease that drives you into isolation," Minnelli told us. "You think there's something terribly wrong with you and there is. You have a deadly disease." Houston was also in the thoughts of Yoko Ono, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and stage and screen star Nathan Lane. "It was fairly obvious for a long time there was a problem, and so I hope she gets the help she needs and takes care of herself," said Lane. The sentiment was echoed by Houston's many fans, and now by her sincere and sober husband, Bobby Brown.
