Whitney's Spiritual Advisor Speaks submitted by: Lisa D. source: Access Hollywood Date: March 22, 2004 With Whitney Houston in rehab and husband Bobby Brown behind bars in Georgia, it has been the couple's off-stage episodes, rather than onstage, that have garnered recent media attention. Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson recently caught up with one of the people responsible for sending Whitney down the road to recovery, her spiritual advisor Sar Amiel. "Is Whitney embarrassed because there's been so much publicity surrounding what many people call 'erratic behavior?'" Shaun asked. "Not necessarily embarrassed, but hurt," Amiel revealed. As Shaun found out, Whitney, Bobby and daughter Bobbi Kristina's documented journey to Israel was not taken merely on a whim. In fact, Sar's African Hebrew Israelite nation had been trying to persuade Whitney to make the trip for some time, convinced that spiritual rejuvenation was necessary. Amiel, who accompanied the trio, said pulling the family out of the celebrity pressure cooker worked wonders in setting Whitney on a path to face her problem. "And you felt that her problems weren't the result of drugs?" Shaun inquired. "No, they were the result of a continuous lifestyle," Amiel explained. "Drug abuse is the effect, not necessarily the cause." In getting Whitney to focus on facing her demons, Amiel said there was one other key component – young Bobbi Kristina. "She does want to do this, not just for herself, but more so for her daughter," Sar said, adding the child is currently in the care of Houston's family. With husband Bobby about to get out of jail, again, those close to Whitney worry that a reunion may have a negative effect on any progress she has made since voluntarily checking herself into rehab. "So it would be your suggestion to Whitney and to Bobby that they both go through rehab together?" Shaun asked Amiel. "That would be the optimum scenario," he concluded.
