The 58 Most Intriguing Blacks of 2003 submitted by: Lisa D. source: Ebony magazine Date: October 9, 2003 Whitney Houston & Bobby Brown With Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, there never seems to be a dull moment. Just when it appears that their lives have quieted down to some degree of celebrity normalcy, they are thrust once again into the glaring media spotlight. Most recently, while simply trying to enjoy a quiet, romantic dinner in a suburban Atlanta restaurant, Brown was arrested, again, this time for a probation violation. Yet, as a couple, they continue to capture the imagination of their fans and critics for their unwavering devotion to each other as much as they do for their persistent legal issues. Repeatedly they have defended and supported each other, regained their composure, gathered their strength and marched forward, arm-in-arm, as husband and wife. Despite Brown's latest brush with legal authorities, Houston, 40, returned to the recording studios in Atlanta, where they have a home (in addition to her homes in New Jersey and Florida). The Grammy Award-winner, who is recording a new project, has sold more than 100 million records. Brown, 34, is best known for his success with the teen group New Edition, where his career began at age 13. He went on to capitalize on his "bad boy" image with solo hits that include "My Prerogative" and "Every Little Step." In the past year, both Houston and Brown admitted drug use, and Houston also has been plagued by a gaunt appearance, missed concerts and engagements and peculiar behavior. Whitney, who calls Bobby her "energy," has said that she and Bobby are opposites in some ways, "but we're so much alike." Intriguing. Site design by: Dolphin Webpage Designs © 1996-2003 |
