Bobby Brown in Jail Until Wednesday submitted by: Eduardo source: Associated Press Date: August 26, 2003 ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Singer Bobby Brown will stay in jail until a court appearance Wednesday, DeKalb County officials said. Brown has been in the county jail since his Friday arrest for violating his probation from an earlier drunk driving conviction. A warrant was issued last month, but he was not arrested until Friday night, when he was spotted at a suburban Atlanta seafood restaurant with wife Whitney Houston. Another restaurant patron called police. In January, Brown, 33, was sentenced to eight days in jail and ordered not to drive for a year after pleading guilty to a 1996 drunken driving charge in DeKalb County. The singer was arrested because he did not show up for court-ordered community service, drug treatment or a random drug test, said DeKalb County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Mikki Jones. Last November, Brown was arrested in Atlanta on charges of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, speeding and having no driver's license or proof of insurance. He also did a 26-day stint in a Florida jail in 2000 for a previous probation violation. Brown left R&B group New Edition in the late 1980s for a solo career. His hits include "My Prerogative" and "Every Little Step." Houston upset as husband is arrested outside restaurant ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Whitney Houston angrily confronted officers as her husband, Bobby Brown, was arrested outside a seafood restaurant, police said. Brown has been in jail since his Friday night arrest for violating his probation from an earlier drunk driving conviction. The R&B singer is scheduled for his first court appearance Wednesday. "She was outwardly frustrated. She was upset. She was yelling and screaming and pointing fingers at one of our officers," Sgt. Chris Lagerbloom said of Houston. "We deal with emotions like that from family members all the time. To say that she was calm about it would be a misstatement." But he said officers didn't consider charging the 40-year-old singer with disorderly conduct. Meanwhile, Brown "was as calm and cordial and professional as you could be," Lagerbloom said. Brown, 33, was arrested because be apparently didn't show up for court-ordered community service, drug treatment or a random drug test. He was arrested after being spotted at a suburban Atlanta restaurant with Houston. Another patron at the restaurant saw Brown and called police. Site design by: Dolphin Webpage Designs © 1996-2003 |
