Houston not part of birthday bash submitted by: Lisa D. source: Atlanta Journal and Constitution Date: August 6, 2003 By RICHARD L. ELDREDGE A heavily distributed e-mail invitation to Whitney Houston's 40th birthday party snared quite a few fans into Shadow's nightclub on East Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead Monday night. However, the evening's star attraction was nowhere in sight. The invitation, featuring multiple shots of the new Country Club of the South resident, breathlessly informed fans "You are invited to the incredible diva Whitney Houston's birthday celebration." The invite also requested attendees to abide by an "extremely sexy" dress code and touted a champagne toast and three DJs. Atlanta restaurateur Sean "P. Diddy" Combs' Justin's restaurant was listed as the evening's caterer. Neither Houston nor her hubby, Bobby Brown, ever materialized. A banner hanging out front informed club-goers: "Whitney Houston has no affiliation with tonight's event, has not authorized the use of her name and will not be attending." A recorded message greeted us when we rang Shadow's on Tuesday, stating that office hours are Wednesday through Saturday. No one was answering the phones at Justin's Tuesday afternoon. When we rang Arista Records representative Laura Swanson's office Tuesday, we were told that, indeed, Houston had nothing to do with festivities in her honor. Houston officially turns 40 on Saturday.
