Fan Report: Drew Meets Whitney At Soul Train!
submitted by: Drew
Date: March 4, 2000
Today, I was looking forward to being a seat filler at the Soul Train
Awards. The time came and I was sat in the second row, center stage. I
couldn't believe it. Especially since I never left my seat. I stayed there
the whole time. I was in heaven. The show was about to start and Juvenile
sits right in back of me. I wasn't acting excited, but for the most part,
I couldn't believe I was this close to the stage around so many famous
people.
I was waiting for Whitney to come out to the audience. I saw Bobby and
Bobbi Kris, but no Whitney. I guess she was changing or talking to people
the whole time. But she didn't come out into the audience until a few
minutes before she was given her award. When she walked out through the
audience, she stopped and was talking to Mary J. Blige and her mom. Mary
J. was sitting right in front of me so I was excited to see Whitney right
there.
After she was done with her conversation, I said hi to her. She looked
over to me and said "Hi, enjoying the show?" I was smiling and told her
yes and how beautiful she was. She smiled and said thank you. I asked
her how things were going with the greatest hits and she said very good.
She said that she had to be back in the studio first thing in the morning.
Then she said, "They're calling me, I gotta go. Nice meeting you." Then
she told Mary J. she couldn't wait to see her performance and she knew
she was going to tear it up........
While I watched the show on TV, I realized how different it seemed. I
couldn't hear all the screams that were going on when Whitney was talking,
and the same with everyone else, like it was while I was there. Plus I
read a few comments saying Whitney didn't thank the fans. She thanked
them, and her attitude towards the fans was obviously all fun and play.
The audience was laughing the whole time. Everyone knew she was trying
to be nice. Plus she was trying to give a speech and the entire time people
were screaming so loud. I didn't really hear all that on the TV though.
This is definitely a night to remember.
