With Whitney Houston on
the sofa
Whitney Houston like nobody knows her: Bunte has photos from behind the
scenes of the tour. The Pop queen talks about it.
For more than two months, pop star Whitney Houston toured through Germany.
The last day before her return to the states she received the Bambi in
Berlin. The tour was a pure triumphant advance. Whitney Houston let the
successful music video producer Rudi Dolezal from Vienna -- who is know
for his documentaries about Queen and the Rolling Stones -- have a look
behind-the-scenes: He filmed the pop queen during the tour around the
clock and now shows the first pictures here in Bunte. We see the world
star in her dressing room, in one of various hotel rooms -- and also backstage,
always intoxicating, beautiful and nice. The film about Whitney Houston
is supposed to come to U.S. cinemas at the beginning of next year -- shortly
before the Oscars. For good reason as the pop queen told us: "For this
movie I want to receive the Oscar for Best Documentary," she said after
the Bambi Awards ceremony in the Berlin Hyatt Hotel. An Oscar is still
missing in her collection of Grammys, Emmys and MTV Awards, you see. And
then she tells Bunte editor Christiane Soyke what is also missing. Above
all when she is away from home...
Q: During the first half of your tour your daughter Kristina traveled
with you. Then she had to go back home because school started. How did
you deal with that?
A: I almost die because I miss her so much. I miss doing the homework
together with her, to see how good she is in school. I want to get to
know her friends, learn their names, so that we can talk about them. It
is so important to do lots of things with your children, that you are
interested in what they are doing, that you're just as hip as they are.
Bobbi Kristina and I, we have a wonderful relationship and I am very proud
about that. Oh, I would just love to see her little face right now! I
can hardly wait to go home.
Q: Do you call her in the meantime?
A: I talk to her at least three times a week although that's very hard
for me. Because when I talk to her I miss her even more. I know that she
always tells her friends about me and that's a very nice feeling. She
always says: 'Mommie is away at the moment but she'll be back soon.' Or:
'Look what she's bought for me!' I send her dolls from everywhere. She
loves dolls and plays with them for hours.
Q: How was it when your daughter had to go back to the U.S.?
A: I thought I would be strong. I thought the both of us would be strong
and wouldn't cry but I just had to. I just broke down - and she too. We
both had to cry so bad. On one side it was really hard because I knew
I had to let her go. On the other side it felt good because I knew that
she would miss me the same and that she loves me as much as I love her
and that means so much to me.
Q: When she sang together with you on stage what did you feel?
A: I remembered the days when I was on stage together with my Mom and
sang. Krissy starts with the same age I did. It seems as though she's
born for show business. But until now she has no feelings for the business,
she only sees the show and that's a lot of fun for her. I like watching
her sing, because it is so innocent, so clear. That is the part of the
business that I love. The business gets on my nerves.
Q: What gets on your nerves the most?
A: That you have to be nice to everybody, to not-nice people the same
as to label bosses. To be on stage and sing, that is so great. It is like
the purest adrenalin and I love that. After a concert it takes me about
six hours until I am able to sleep.
Q: What's the thing you are looking forward to the most when you get home?
A: The sweet face of my daughter! That my daughter looks at me and says:
'Mommie, I missed you so much and I love you.' We hug a lot and kiss.
When we're at home, Krissy always sleeps in our bed - in between Bobby
and me. I just need her love.
Q: Not only your daughter, millions of people around the world love you.
A: Yes, I know that they also love me. But Krissy and I - that is something
different. We just belong to each other. I know that Krissy is going to
need me her whole life. For the people, Whitney Houston can come and go.
That is not so important. But Krissy will always need me and that's the
only thing that counts for me.
Now some questions to Bobby:
Q: For you, what's the difference between the star Whitney Houston and
the wife Whitney Houston?
A: On stage, she's the voice heard by millions. At home she's my wife
who loves my child, the woman who tells me in the morning which clothes
I should wear. When we're alone, we laugh a lot, tease and kiss. That's
wonderful.
Q: Are there no problems when two famous artists are married?
A: Everybody knows who Bobby Brown is and everybody knows who Whitney
Houston is. But nobody knows who Whitney Houston-Brown is. I know many
things about her that nobody else does and when we're sad we can cry on
each others shoulders.
Q: Tell us more about her.
A: She is the loving mother, the craziest wife. That's good because I
am crazy too. To only look at my wife is a miracle for me. I love her
so much and I will love her until the end of my days. To be able to stay
with me you have to be very cute and also very mean. Because I am Bobby
Brown. I am the bad boy. But maybe I am not just as bad as everybody believes.
Q: What do you love most about her?
A: I love everything about her- it doesn't matter what she says. It doesn't
matter which arguments we have. But I also enjoy these. During a quarrel
I have to laugh because it sounds as if she were singing. When she yells
- I like that. She yells at me and I hear her voice that I love so much
and then I know how much I love her.
