Whitney Houston seduced by the sun and caipirinhas
submitted by: Fernanda O.
date: January/Febuary in 1993
source: Brazil Magazine (translated)

Always accompanied by her truculent bodyguards, she didn't resist to the beaches from Rio and the flavor of the typical drinks. Beside her husband, the rapper Bobby Brown, La Houston fell in love with the city.

Whitney Houston (30) is one more star who didn't resist to the appeal of the beauty of Rio de Janeiro's beaches, forgot the fear from the fans' siege and went for a walk through the city. She arrived in Rio de Janeiro accompanied only by her security staff, on January 18th, at 10 a.m., tricking the press and the fans, who were waiting for her only in the evening. The megastar spent her first day in town lockked into the double apartment she occupied at the Rio palace Hotel, in Copacabana. At the following morning, however, accompanied by her particular staff and by truculent bodyguards, she gave in to the sun appeals and finally appeared at the pool, exhibiting the good shape recovered after a pregnancy that gave her 40 extra pounds. But the intense regime she's been into didn't stop her from drinking caipirinhas and some bottles of beer. She didn't bother with the curiosity of some guests and with the presence of photographers and, contrarily from the great divas who use to land at the hotel with prima-donna's behavior, Whitney was just like a joyous tourist in vacation.

If it already seemed good, the singer's mood got even better on Friday, with the arrival of her husband, singer Bobby Brown (24). Denying the endless rumors of having an "appearance marriage", the couple spent every minute together, including her concert at the Apoteose, when he went on stage and, after presenting the audience with a special duet with her, ended his participation with an appetizing and passionate kiss on his wife. His little girl Bobbi, who has also done a sweet appearance in one of her mother's concerts, couldn't come with her daddy, because Whitney thought that the long trip to Brazil would be very exhausting to the little girl, who's only 8 months old.

Even before the concert, the couple already showed their love through the city. In a Mercedes-Benz, with personalized plate with the singer's initials and her number of luck - WH 1313 - Whitney and Bobby spent the day visiting the tourist attractions from Rio. At the Recreio dos Bandeirante's beach, chosen for being far, they had lunch at the Lokau restaurant, at sea-cost, where half deck was reserved only for them.

Whitney and bobby had lobster and shrimp, with some piñas-coladas, specially prepared without alcohol, so that it wouldn't compromise the later performance. To have total energy to the concert, she used as fuel a recovering dive into the Atlantic.

Walking around through the usual crowd that fills Copacabana beach on Sundays, wearing a bath suit and a recent-bought yoke (bought from one of the ambulant sellers on the beach), Whitney still had time for less spiritual activities, and like all the mortals, she didn't resist to the shopping. Besides the yokes, she picked some colored shirts and artesian pieces to present her friends, and fell in love with a leather purse - for what she didn't think twice and bought for 100 dollars.

With a lot of bags and her husband by her side, La Houston left the car and preferred to walk four blocks to the hotel, and took the opportunity to enjoy a super-brazilian coconut water. Kind and smiling, Whitney, who says to love children, didn't resist to one who asked her a kiss.

After such an agitated day, it ended up with little time left to get prepared to the concert, and she entered on stage more than an hour late, with the mission of keeping the energy of more than 40.000 people, excited with the concert by Jorge Ben Jor. But she didn't disappoint. With he competence of who has sold more than 40 million albums and put seven straight singles at number one, La Houston, despite a very romantic set of songs, that can't be compared to the tropical swing of Jorge Ben, kept the audience rocking till the last note.

After one day closed in her room at the Rio Palace Hotel, Whitney enjoyed a refreshing pool, accompanied by her feminine staff. Excited, she didn't stop laughing.

"I've had the best time of my life here, tonight, with you."

"I look at that big mountain you have here and I see Jesus Christ there, with open arms, waiting and wanting us all to come to Him. God bless this beautiful place."
