The album is a diverse blend of ballads including "Try It On My Own" (written by Babyface and Carol Bayer Sager), "My Love" in which Whitney duets with husband Bobby and a powerhouse remake of "You Light Up My Life" (originally by Debbie Boone in 1977). Songs with hip grooves such as "Love That Man" and the old-school jam "Things You Say" (written by Missy Elliott) are also featured.
The album opens with "Whatchulookinat" and the other track on the 'Double A' single, "One Of Those Days" is featured as track 3. "Things You Say" (co-written by Missy Elliott) is a laid-back acoustic slow jam that has the flavour of Curtis Mayfield. In contrast "Dear John Letter" details the ups and downs of a relationship and its ultimate end.
The album concludes with the P Diddy mix of Whatchulookinat.
Just Whitney is an album that demonstrates the maturity and growth of an artist who has consistently triumphed as a multi-talented recording artist, performer, actress and producer.
