On the World Chart Show (October 2, 1999), "My Love Is Your Love" holds in the runner-up position, as Christina Aguilera's "Genie In A Bottle" leaps up from No. 4 to No. 1. However, perhaps next week, the single could move up one spot on both the World Chart Show and the Billboard Hot R&B Singles & Tracks chart to capture the pole position!

PIPPED AT THE POST: Whitney Houston lost her chance to collect her ninth No. 1 hit on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles & Tracks chart this week, as "My Love Is Your Love" (Arista) remains No. 2, while Deborah Cox surges 11-1 with "We Can't Be Friends" (also on Arista). It wasn't a great week for Houston, who also just missed advancing into the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. "My Love Is Your Love" makes a nice 16-11 jump, but Mark Anthony made a massive 56-10 leap with his first chart entry, "I Need To Know" (Columbia). Still, there could be a reversal of fortune in Houston's future. She should be in the top 10 of the Hot 100 next week, and she could still surpass Cox to claim the crown on the R&B chart.

There is a surprise on the Hot R&B Singles & Tracks, as Deborah Cox with R. L. (of Next) leap from No. 11 to No. 1 due to a huge sales increase (the single earns the Greatest Gainer/Sales distinction). However, "My Love" holds at No. 2 with a bullet. The commercial release of Whitney Houston's "My Love Is Your Love'' (Arista) pushes the single to new heights on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles & Tracks as well as the Hot 100. The fourth single from Houston's latest album (also titled "My Love Is Your Love'') vaults to No. 2 on the R&B chart. If "My Love Is Your Love'' can inch up one position next week, dislodging "Spend My Life With You'' (Warner Bros.) by Eric Benet featuring Tamia, it will be Houston's ninth chart-topper. That'll keep her in third place on the list of solo female artists with the most No. 1 R&B hits, behind Aretha Franklin (20) and Janet Jackson (14). On the Hot 100, where "My Love'' wasn't even in the top 40 last issue, Houston is up 28 places to No. 16. That should make it a certainty to reach the top 10, and when it does, it will be Houston's 22nd top 10 hit. That's good enough for third place here as well, where she trails Madonna (32) and Janet Jackson (24). Houston has done incredibly well with singles from the "My Love Is Your Love'' album, especially if you discount "When You Believe,'' her duet with Mariah Carey from "The Prince Of Egypt.'' However, the big news is that "My Love Is Your Love" begins to reap the benefit of 1st week sales, as it leaps up 24 spots to No. 44. The song also continues to do well on the Hot Dance Music / Club Play chart, as it slides down only 2 positions to No. 4 (last week's No. 1, Jamiroquai's "Canned Heat" drops to No. 5, indicating the popularity of "My Love"). On the Billboard 200, "My Love", the album, rises 1 place to No. 63, although unbulleted.

On the Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart, "My Love Is Your Love" takes a giant 17-spot jump to No. 1 in only its second week on the chart. Over on the Hot R&B Singles & Tracks list, the single also gains the advantage of 1st week sales and sails up 12 spots to No. 11. On the Music & Media composite European charts for the week ending September 18, 1999, "My Love," the album, remains at the summit of the chart.
