Whitney's "It's Not Right" enjoys a sales boost that takes the single to #4
on the main singles chart. "It's Not Right" is Whitney's 18th top 5 hit and
has matched the peak of "I'm Every Woman," "I Have Nothing," and "I Believe
In You And Me." Until now, Whitney has not generated two top 5 hits from a
single album since "The Bodyguard" in 1993. "It's Not Right" is #4 in
sales, selling 76,000 copies and registering the largest increase again this
week, but fails to garner a significant gain at radio this week for the
first time, stalling at #15.
(submitted by: L.N.)
According to ARIA (Australian Record Industry Assoc.)
"Heartbreak Hotel" has entered the Australian
singles chart with "Heartbreak Hotel" at number
38. This is refreshing as "INRBIOK" did not even
make the top 50. Good luck to Whitney Houston!

Great news from Germany: According to MusiKWoche
(German music paper)Whitney's new single "My love
is your love" climbs in its third week from No. 39
over No. 14 to No. 5. That means that "My love is
your love" is Whitney's biggest hit in Germany
since "I will always love you" in 1992/1993.
Moreover the album "My love is your love" climbs
from No. 11 to No. 8 and thus reaches a new peak
position. I always knew that the releease of "My
love is your love" as a single would bring the
album back to the top of the charts. That's the
case in Europe. Hopefully soon in the United
States, too.

I have just returned from my classtrip and if you don't know yet, MLIYL (the
single) moved from 14 to 5!!! That's her biggest hit in Germany since IWALY
(SBS and WYB both reached number 8)! MLIYL (the album) jumped from 11 to 8!

The release of a regular CD/cassette single format to join the
previously released extended formats for Whitney's "It's Not Right But It's
Okay" gives it the chart's largest sales increase and moves it on the cusp
of the top 10 to #11. It ranks #11 in sales (up from #21) and sold 42,000

Swiss Charts:

Chart Confusion? L.N. previously said
that the last solo Top Twenty single from Whitney
was "Exhale" which is actually wrong. "I Believe
in You and Me" was in the Top Ten (it debuted at #7),
and "Step By Step" hit Number 18, I believe.
Since "Step By Step" is one of my favorites, I
didn't want its accomplishments to go unnoticed.
(These numbers are from the Billboard Hot 100, if
anyone wonders.)
(submitted by: Kelly F.)
The answer: This report you read was refferring to Top Ten Radio Airplay charts,
not Hot 100 Charts. So L.N.'s Chart Report was indeed accurate.
(submitted by: RTWM)
I was just reading the correction you posted about
Whitney's single step by step. I just wanted to
note that the single did not peak at 18, but at
number 15. It debuted at 22 and in the next week
moved to 15 where is stayed for two weeks before
peaking there.

MOVING ON UP THE CHARTS IN THE UK!!
According to Radio 1, Official Top 40,
Whitney has moved up the UK charts again this
week, from number 13 to number 10!!!!
I also forgot to mention that last week despite
falling 3, sales had increased from the previous
week!! Also, I read that sales now exceed 650,000 in the
UK (but this isn't
definite)!!

the charts. On the Toronto based Energy Radio's
Top 20, INRBIO was noted as this week's greatest
mover going from #22 to #8. They've been playing
this single non-stop for about two weeks.

Anyway, this is just to keep you updated on a few
Billboard charts for the week ending June 5, 1999:
- In its 27th week on the Billboard 200, "My
Love Is Your Love" slips 5 notches to No. 42.
- In its 24th week on the Billboard Hot 100,
"Heartbreak Hotel" moves down 4 spots to No.
15. As well, "It's Not Right But It's Okay"
leaps 18 big positions to land at No. 32 in
its 5th week on the chart.
- The criteria for the Billboard Hot 100 has
changed slightly. Points are now based on a
70%/30% ratio of airplay to sales data. Due
to a rise in single sales, Billboard revised
the former 75/25 formula introduced in the
December 5, 1998 issue.

Whitney's "It's Not Right But It's Okay" stalls at #50* for a second week on
the singles chart. It debuts at #36* in the composite top 40 pop radio
genre this week and ranks #28* on the black singles chart. My understanding
is that there is no way "It's Not Right" can be given a sales boost, since
it has already been released on the "Heartbreak Hotel" single and that
singles sales points are now and will always be applied to "Heartbreak
Hotel"'s singles chart position. "Heartbreak Hotel" is #11 on the singles
chart this week.
"It's Not Right" may be the last single worked from the "My Love Is Your
Love" album, which ranks #42 in its 26th week on the albums chart. Arista
Records has announced that Whitney will release her greatest hits set this
coming fall. With the two albums coming in such close succession, it's
possible that a song from "My Love" will be put on the hits set and worked
as a single to promote both projects.
