For the week ending August 1, 1998, "The
Preacher's Wife" soundtrack climbs back up from
No. 13 to No. 12 in its 86th week on Billboard's
Top Gospel Albums chart. Only two albums, BeBe &
CeCe Winans's "Greatest Hits" and Donnie
McClurkin's self-titled release, have been on the
chart longer, each at 90 weeks. Also, in this
issue, Billboard featured a spotlight on Gospel
Music, including a year-to-date chart compiled
from December 6, 1997 to August 1, 1998. On it,
the soundtrack ranks at No. 7. "God's Property"
by God's Property From Kirk Franklin's Nu Nation
takes the top spot, BeBe Winans self-titled solo
set lands at No. 3 and sister CeCe's "Everlasting
Love" winds up at No. 8. Incidentally, on the
current chart, these three albums move 3-4, 9-9,
and 2-2, respectively. The year-to-date chart
offers a preview of what the year-end chart may
look like.

For the week ending June 20, 1998, "The Preacher's
Wife" soundtrack slides down from No. 9 to No. 10
on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart.
Similarly, "Everlasting Love" by CeCe Winans
descends from No. 2 to No. 3. Please note that
because Billboard publishes this chart on a
biweekly basis, the "previous" positions of the
above albums are actually from 2 weeks ago.

For the
week ending June 6, 1998, the soundtrack to "The
Preacher's Wife" reverses direction on the
Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart, as it inches up
one position from No. 10 to No. 9 . Meanwhile,
CeCe Winans's "Everlasting Love" holds at No. 2 .
Perhaps her uplifting performance of the track
"Well, Alright" on the "Jenny Jones" show will
propel the album back to No. 1 .

On the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart for the the week ending
March 28, 1998, the soundtrack to "The Preacher's Wife" holds at
No. 6 . Incidentally, on the 1998 Soul Train Music Awards, when
Whitney was presented with the Quincy Jones Career Achievement
award, it was mentioned that "The Preacher's Wife" was the biggest
selling Gospel album of all time! It's great that Whitney knows
where her help comes from! All glory to God! Hopefully, the
soundtrack will pave the way for other major artists to proclaim
the Good News. Wouldn't it be fly to see another Gospel album from
Whitney?! (submitted by: Rob N.)

Billboard Gospel chart update:
Although Whitney has not released any new singles from "The
Preacher's Wife" soundtrack, the album continues to do well. In the
March 14, 1998 issue of Billboard, the album is at No. 6 on the Top Gospel
Albums chart. The current No. 1 record is still "God's Property" by God's
Property from Kirk Franklin's Nu Nation. Even though "God's Property"
wound up the year at No. 2 (behind "The Preacher's Wife"), it has the
potential to end 1998 at No. 1 . However, look out for CeCe Winans' new
release which dropped last Tuesday. If CeCe's album continues the quality
that "Alone In His Presence" possessed, then it could challenge "God's
Property" for the top spot. (submitted by: Rob N.)
