"Preacher's Wife" dips down to #109 this week on the Billboard 200. Watch for "My Heart Is Calling" to enter on the next issue of Billboard Hot 100 Singles. It will probably start out low but let's pray it will move. (submitted by: Bryan MusicMan)

I guess bad news this week for Whitney in Billboard.
  • "The Preacher's Wife" drops down for the first time since its release out of the Top 100. It stands at #104 this week.
  • It has also lost its #1 spot on the gospel chart since last week when Kirk Franklin debuted at #1 with his new album, "God's Property from Kirk Franklin's Nu Nation" which still reigns at #1 this week.

I'm glad to hear that "I Go To The Rock" is at least the B-side of "My Heart Is Calling". Further, if many R&B radio stations give "Rock" more airplay than "Heart", it will be listed as the A-side on the Hot R&B Singles chart in Billboard. It could happen!!! Here in Calgary, a local light rock station has begun rotation of "Heart".

So, here are some (late) Billboard updates for the week ending June 7, 1997:

  • Top Gospel Albums: "The Preacher's Wife" soundtrack holds at *** No. 1 *** for the 26th consecutive week!!!
  • Hot 100 Singles: "Step By Step" moves back up from No. 80 to No. 79.
  • The Billboard 200: "The Preacher's Wife" soundtrack slips from No. 71 to No. 97.
  • Hot R&B Singles: "Step By Step" slides from No. 84 to No. 89.
  • Top R&B Albums: "The Preacher's Wife" soundtrack moves down from No. 41 to No. 46.
  • Hot R&B Single Sales: "Step By Step" drops from No. 67 to No. 71.
  • Hot 100 Single Sales: "Step By Step" eases down a notch fro No. No. 57 to No. 58.

Have you looked in the Billboard charts for this week? the Preacher's Wife Soundtrack is at number 59 up from 91 last week. this is very good news. what could be the reason for this? is it the release of the video? (submitted by Aubrey Shoko)

Here are Billboard Magazine chart info for the week ending May 24, 1997:

  • "The Preacher's Wife" soundtrack is still the NUMBER ONE Gospel album

On last weekend's broadcast of the World Chart Show, "I Believe In You And Me" held at No. 35 for the second week in a row. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the position for "Step By Step". (submitted by Rob N.)

I just read on Billboard Online that Whitney has the #2 single under the remakes of songs for "I Will Always Love You" right behind Chubby Checker with the "Twist".
Also Under Chart Beat Chat 2 wks ago Whitney was going to sig Jimmy Ruffins "What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted" as the cover of the Body guard instead of "I Will Always Love You." (submitted by Dave W.)

Oh Gawd! "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" as sung by Paul Newman??? That would have sucked, wouldn't it?! Thank goodness that didn't happen! :)   Thanx 4 the interesting fact, Dave W.

Here's some chart info for Australia:

Here are Billboard Magazine chart info for the week ending May 10, 1997:
  • "The Preacher's Wife" soundtrack falls from No. 76 to No. 95 on the Billboard 200.
  • "Step By Step" falls out of the top 50 singles (although it still is on the Hot 100. A single is removed from the Hot 100 when it either falls off the chart on its own, or if it has charted for over 20 weeks and is below the top 50).
  • For the week ending April 26, 1997: "Step By Step" drops 9 notches from No. 29 to No. 38 on the Hot R&B Singles chart.
