Bobby Brown: a Wanted Man by: Joal Ryan date: June 21, 1999, 7:20 a.m. PT from: E! Online
The onetime chart-topping, King of New Jack Swing is facing an arrest warrant in Florida for alleged probation violations. On the upside, the warrant is an misdemeanor warrant, meaning Brown won't be taken into custody unless he returns the state of the reputed crime. Florida prosecutors aren't expected to pursue extradition. On the downside, the events leading up to the warrant seem to indicate the singer hasn't exactly left behind his bad-boy days--even at age 32. Brown's Florida probabtion officer last week told a Broward Circuit judge that the entertainer (1) tested positive for cocaine in April; (2) refused to take another urine test in May; and, (3)wasn't in court himself because he never returned from a trip to Beverly Hills. The judge was not amused--and issued the warrant. If ever nabbed in Florida again, Brown faces up to 90 days in jail. Brown's Florida troubles began when he crashed wife Whitney Houston's Porsche into a sign in 1996. In January 1998, he was convicted of drunken driving and sentenced to five days in jail. He also did a subsequent stint in rehab. Following a career-making run with R&B kid group New Edition in the 1980s, Brown embarked on a hit solo career, scoring with "My Prerogative." Since the mid-1990s, though, his frequent police-blotter entries have received more attention than his sporadic music work. Site design by: Dolphin Webpage Designs © 1996-2001 |
