In this week's Village Voice,
Michael Musto has an article that includes an interview with Clive
Davis that reads:
As for Whitney Houston, "We just certified her album triple platinum
in the U.S., and it's sold 4.8 million abroad. She's at about
8 million worldwide." Yeah, but didn't she look and sound a bit
like Lauryn Hill in her last video? "She's had a different look
with every video," Davis explained. "Well, whoever Whitney is,
she's certainly one of the best live performers out there," I
groveled. "That was recent," said Davis, meaning her development
in stage presence. Obviously-or I wouldn't have remembered it.
(Thanks John G.)

I
received an e-mail today from Arista
telling me that Whitney's Greatest Hits will be released on video
and DVD on March 7, 2000. (Many thanks Neal) As a result,
this is also a likely date for the Greatest Hits CD itself.
The Divas Live/99
CD has been released in Holland. The cover is almost white and has
the same picture as VH-1's red
poster that was used to advertise the show earlier this year. Inside
there are pictures of all the divas and one group photo. Whitney's
looking good! (Thanks Chantal)

MTV's
Making the Video aired a preview of Whitney's video shoot of "I
Learned From the Best." The brief clip showed Whitney in
a sleeveless, brown leather dress and a big, fluffy afro. The
afro was a surprise, but it looked good. Whitney said of the look,
"This is called the Angela Davis rebirth. We're in the 60s.
Black power." In other small bits she said, "I just
want to get it over with and go home." She also said, "I'm
the kind of person who likes to give my best." This should
be interesting. The clip showed Whitney singing on stage in front
of an audience that did not appear to be dressed in 1960s costume.
Pop radio responding: Whitney is No. 2 on Toronto's Energy
108 radio station. This is great. It is mostly based on requests.
They play MLIYL almost every hour on the hour. Unfortunately,
no other Pop/AC radio stations in the area have played the song.

According to the new Entertainment
Weekly power issue, Arista's Clive Davis makes the the power
list at Number 25, up from 33 last year. They list his credits
as reviving Carlos Santana's career as well as "toughing out another
hit for Whitney Houston." (Thanks John G.)
The MLIYL single debuted on Casey Kasem's Top 40 countdown at
No. 39, signifying again that the Pop charts are way behind R&B
regarding the MLIYL album. (Thanks Rachel)

Last night I was watching VH-1
when an ad appeared for the Divas Live/99 CD, tape and video.
They gave a number, (800)876-6633, and said you can now buy the
album before it hits the stores! I tried it and already ordered
my copy. The CD cost maybe $15-16. The video was $19.95, plus
about $3 for shipping and handling. (Thanks Tiffany P.)
"My Love is Your Love" is currently No. 2 on Jet Magazine's Singles
Chart. (Thanks Alan) The song slips to No. 10 from No.
7 on MTV's Top 20 Chart.

I've just listened to an interview with Enrique Iglesias on the
Spanish radio station Los 40 Principales. I asked him some questions
about Whitney by e-mail. He has confirmed that his next album
will include the duet with her. He was really excited about the
song. Enrique said that it's incredible and that since Whitney
was interested in the song he couldn't lose the opportunity of
working with her. His album will be released November 23. (Thanks
Laura)

I was watching TFI Friday with Chris Evans in the UK and Diana Ross
was on the show. She was asked numerous questions and Chris asked
her about an alleged fight with Cher, whom she had supposedly slapped.
Diana denied this. Then she was asked if she knew Whitney. Diana
said no, but she would slap Whitney. (Thanks Jonathon Ashley)
[Diana apparently was trying to make a joke, but the audience didn't
think it was funny.]
