Hi there! I just thought I would let the concerned Whitney-fans know that the average cost of making a CD single is between .17 - .33 cents! That includes the CD and all the packaging, as well as shipping to the stores. CD albums cost a little more ($1.25 - $2.00 each) because there are more
tracks to reproduce, and there is usually more involved in the packaging of a
CD album (lyric booklets, pictures, etc.) than a CD single. The reason it is
so cheap is because these CD's are being pressed in quantities of 100,000
units +, and in the case of Whitney 1,000,000 units +. Because of the bulk of
business and number pf pressings, record labels can contract such low rates to
the factories that actually make the CD's and inserts and the CD makers can
still make a profit because the size of the orders are so big. Believe me - the last thing any greedy record company would do is lose money
on purpose, especially on such an expensive artist like Whitney (isn't her
contract like $60 million?) They could sell CD singles for .49 (which I have
seen), and they are STILL making money! Kinda makes you mad when those maxi-
singles are $7, heh? All that extra money goes to the record company.

New Screen Captures: Merv Griffen Show (May 1983); some of the "Sopresa, Sopresa" Spain TV show (Feb./99); AAO on Italian TV (ugly outfit).
(thanx to: Charo R. and Fede N.)
New Audio files: Television appeances! WH in Spain last month, singing IWALY (with a fan), INRBIO and ILFTB; WH live on Italian TV in 1986 singing AAO (see screen captures for ugly outfit she was wearing!); WH's first ever TV apperance on the Merv Griffen Show in May/1983. She sings "Home"! I got the entire song! If this doesn't get you so emotional, then nothing will! WH was only 19 years old! See what she looked like (i.e. her REAL hair) in the screen captures.

Chart news update; updated again this evening.
From a very reliable source, I hear that whitney and Mariah will be
recording another duet for the soundtrack of "All That Glitters" --
Mariah's upcoming movie. The song is written by Mariah. If they are
smart they will NOT let Babyface produce this song. I will send you
more info as soon as I get it. I am expecting more within the next 24
hours.

I was in SamGoody (MusicLand) today and I was looking at the singles and to my surprise
the "Heartbreak Hotel/It's Not Right But It's Okay" (Maxi Single) was only $1.99!!! So I bought it,
of course!!! What is Arista thinking? I know they want to get Whitney to #1, but selling a
Maxi-Single for $1.99 they have to be losing money!!!

My name is Daniel. The article on the
cover story is about whitney's rise to number one on the club charts with
INRBIO. It also mentions an all dance remixes project coming this summer.

New screen captures: pre-grammy party; grammy awards; INRBIO video stills. Sorry to dissappoint you but what U saw on the QuickTime video was pretty much it. Pray that they do what they did w/ the Step By Step video and change it before releasing it to the fickle US public. (Muchas gracias, Charo!)
Is it just me or did singer Shanice Wilson [picture 1; 2] wear a dress which was strangely similar to one previously worn by Whitney in 1995 [picture] at the Pre-Grammy Party?

Here is a [beautiful!] picture of Whitney when she was in Holland for the
Suprise Show, last month.

Ohmigod!! Today while I was driving home from work I couldn't believe my ears when I heard
INRBIOK (Thunderpuss 2000 mix ). It was on WKTU -- New york's top pop/dance radio station, a station
that never play's any Whitney songs. Judging by the reaction of the listeners it's going to be a
hit pretty soon! P.S -I Think MLIYL is the next single since WBLS, a station that has greatly promoted HH has also
put MLIYL on heavy rotation!
(submitted by: John G.)
Since I work in music retail I have the phone numbers to some of the labels - I called Arista this past week to ask them about the remixes for MLIYL that was said to be heard on the radio recently. I spoke with a woman that I had a chance to meet a few months back. She heads up the single department for all of the U.S. at Arista. She told me that they have not done any remixes for the song MLIYL yet! I also asked her if they had started to plan Whitney's next single - She said "NO!, they are not sure which way they are going yet." Personally, I would like to see one of the ballads get released to POP radio since they are not really playing HH and the R&B fans now know Whitney has a CD out.

I bought a rare version of the U.K. INRBIO single today. I've scanned the (beautiful) cover for you.

I work at "Legal Seafood" in Chestnut Hill, MA now and some of my co-workers told me tonight that
about two years ago, Whitney and BB stopped by with two kids. Whitney wanted to use the back
entrance, but the managers wouldn't let her. She said she didn't want to be bothered and cause a
scene, so she sat in the limo and ordered food from there, while BB and the kids ate in the back,
after using the front entrance. They were there for about forty minutes.

Last night, (3-11), I saw a TV commercial promoting "Divas Live"! Yeah, it was on VH-1 and it got my adrenaline rushing crazy! I don't know the exact words they use but they said some facts like, "who could sell 1 million albums in one week?" and they said something about "The Bodyguard", too. This whole time, they never mention Nippy's name, but it's a given. Then they gave the date and played "I Was Made to Love Him" in the background.

Just wanted to warn all in the Whitney community to be aware of a CD called
'Cissy and Whitney Houston - A Family Affair' which is carried in the Whitney
section of HMV stores (at least in the one here in Singapore). Naturally, I
freaked out when I saw it thinking it was a rare recording of the two of them
in a club or church. And whatmore, a whole CD's worth. So you can imagine my
disappointment when I actually listened to it in the store. It was full of
nothing but early Cissy recordings, where WH supposedly sings backup.
Whitney's career is extensively covered in the booklet that
accompanys the CD. The CD costs a bomb - US$21.

Whitney will be on a show called OneWorld Music Beat on Monday 3/15 @ 2:30am on CBS.

Whitney is not going to appear in the spanish
programme "Séptimo de caballería", because
finally she didn't go to this music programme

Rumour has it that MLIYL is the next single in the UK which is to be released sometime in April; an NYC radio has said that "Oh Yes" is the next US single.

Whitney was found with BBBB and Bobbie-K. and other family members eating at Red Lobster in South Plainfield, NJ. The waitress says she frequents there every couple of months around 1:30pm if you want to ever try to give Red Lobster lots of business trying to see her. This was about 2 weeks ago. I didn't know that Whitney smoked but she had 2 cigarettes.

WOW! I was just looking at the Buy-Sell-Trade page (BST) abd there are alot of interesting things for sale or trade. Like the "Martinelli Remix" of "Lonely Talking Again", where WH does adlibs for over 1 minute longer at the end. And I also saw some Europe TV apperances (from Feb/99) on there, as well as a bootleg video of WH's rehearsal for the 1991 "Saturday Night Live" which includes her singing a 1970's song, "Sweet Thing". Note: You need to register for use of the BST.
From The 3/10/99 Issue Of USA Today: Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston WILL br performing "When You Believe" on the Oscars on March 21st! They said that Babyface isn't mad -- just hurt, and they have his blessing to sing the song at the Oscars.

I got this confirmation from EUR (Electronic Urban Report):
TWO DIVAS "BELIEVE" IN BABYFACE
Amid controversy Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey announced
recently that they would sing the Babyface version of the song "When
You Believe" at the Oscars. The song was written by Stephen
Schwartz and originally sung by Michelle Pfeiffer and Sally Dworsky
in the movie "The Prince of Egypt." But it was Whitney and Mariah's
version that became a hit (to no one's surprise), and the Academy
wouldn't allow Babyface's name to appear on the Academy Awards
application. Said Babyface, "It wasn't that I was angry; I was just
hurt." Ironically, Pfeiffer and Dworsky's rendition was nominated
for an Oscar. Drama and politics -- it's Oscars season, what
did you expect?

Two versions of the INRBIO video! Here in Taiwan, a TV show broadcasted the "Thunderpuss 2000 radio mix" version of INRBIO music video.
Actually, it was not officially released by Arista, but just re-edited by the local BMG records.
They added more shots of Nippy and lessened the dancers'. I think this remix version was better than the original one. It was much more lively. BTW, Thanks for the remixes of the old songs.

According to Entertaiment Wire, the Disney World Florifa thing does not include Whitney. (maybe she is a surprise guest? I dunno.)
What's wrong with the ARISTA strategy in France?
Whitney made a short appearance on TF1 last week, it's not enough for a come back but it's better
that nothing! HH has het a very good airplay.....but on ONLY 2 french radios (NRJ -- for 15-25 years old; and Fun
Radio - for 12-15 y.o.). So why the other ones don't play the song??? But the main problem is that the single HH, is
available in a very limited number of stores. When I compare with I Still Believe of MC, which
has both an ad at Tv and at radio, I know which one will do the best score!!!
What is that shit Arista Strategy??? A strategy of low sell ???
BTW Fun Radio has a special jingle which said '3 times more fun,3 times more music with WHITNEY
HOUSTON" and after they play HH.

Mr. X wants to know what you think of the remixes. Post your thoughts on the BBS so he can read them.
Very interesting... all these "never-before-released" remixes of old WH classics are
from the unreleased remix album that never was! Yes, Arista was planning a GHP last year which was going to be 1 CD of "greatest hits" and another for "greatest hits remixed". Those are the remixes which would have been part of the 2nd CD.
According to an Arista Employee, apparently this Thursday, Arista will be in Disney World (Orlando, FL)
collaborating with BET on a special. The special is supposed to be on "the women of Arista".
Monica, Deborah Cox, Faith Evans and Whitney is to perform!! The taping
will tape place this weekend. I'm not sure when
this will air but I know that BET is carrying the
special. If you are attending, we all want a report!

OHMIGOD! Most of you may not know WH did a song (and video) for Martin Luther King's holiday in the mid-to-late 1980's. (1987???) The song is entitled "King Holiday". The low-buget music video includes many Afro-Ams, including rap groups "The Fat Boys", "Run DMC", Grand Master Flash; and 80's pop sensations Kool & The Gang, Lisa-Lisa & Cult Jam, El DeBarge, and BBBB's group New Edition! Listen to the [edited version] of the song (cut a huge chunk of the beginning of the song where WH is not featured for bandwidth purposes). If you are not a true fan and U can't recognize WH's voice :-) she is heard at approx. 60 seconds, 125 seconds and 155 seconds into the RealAudio file. There were also singles for this song sold back in the 1980's, which are a rare find today. The screen captures will make you laugh for sure if U R old enough to remember the eighties. Whitney looks so "eighties", I laugh every time I see her in that video...

Ok so I was on my way to walk just taking my time when all the radio stations were just playing
crappy songs so I tuned to Kiss FM (NYC) where I heard a different version of HH -- in fact I loved it. It had
a very strong beat to it and danceable. Ok, if thats not enough, today after noon on WBLS they
played MLIYL thrice and once in the evening. Could this be the new single promo? Hope they
(Arista) start early cause I still one more # 1 Pop song by Nippy ya'know!
(submitted by: Emanuel R.)
My local top 40/rhythm crossover station, Power 92 KKFR-FM, in Phoenix, AZ, showed little support for
"Heartbreak Hotel" at first, probably based on the under-performance of "When You Believe", but this
week I have heard it played several times. This is a good indicator that airplay of "Heartbreak
Hotel" continues to grow, so it could possibly become Whitney's twelfth #1 hit on the pop charts.

This from Liz Smith's (New York Post) column: The Grammys are over and done, but the memories linger on. One of the most amusing
happenings at Clive Davis' annual marathon pre-Grammy bash was when he, the Arista Records titan, got up to tell the audience just how
he discovered Whitney Houston. In detail. A lot of detail. Finally, Whitney turned to a
friend at her table and said with a laugh, " You know, he gave birth to me, too!"

HMV Toronto has just put copies of INRBIO single on store shelves. I'm assuming that the popularity of HH, which is #1 on HMV singles chart, has prompted them to support MLIYL. The European cover and the price (CAN$11.99!!!) suggests that they are imports.

I am so mad right now. I just visited VH-1's
website to find out if there's any special about
whitney, and as usual, none! In fact, VH-1's so
quick to replace whitney in the artist of the
month section (Bruce Springsteen is March's).
When shania was january's artist of the month,
her spot remained there, stretching out days
early february. AND, they are STILL showing
Shania Twain specialsss in VH-1 as we speak! Where
are the whitney specials? none! Yes, I saw ONE ad
saying she's the artist of the month, but I found
it insulting. In the ad, it starts: "this is a
test for VH-1's artist of the month... this is
only a test." Then they showed IWALY, where she
sings "And IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII Will always love
you", except VH-1 messed with it and prolonged
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII more to make it sound like
it's a damn alarm. Vh1's the worst. A little
bit of support and more airplay of HH might have
propelled the song to #1 already. VH-1 should
consider itself lucky that whitney will even
appear for Diva's Live.

"It's Not Right, But It's Okay" will be released in Australia on March 15th. It has the same cover as the U.K. release! I have submitted the Australian one 'cause it's clearer and a little different (in the wording)! The single will have HUGE promotion! You can read all about it on
my site or at www.bmg.com.au (go to new releases). The big f*#@ing shocker is that BMG Australia are going to target gay auidences for major promotion.
Expect a mass rise in sales for MLIYL (which is currently out of the Top100). WYB was considered Mariah's song (#1's & WYB is at position #50 on the aussie albums/singles chart), so this is the brand new single from Whitney here DownUnder! Look what it did for the CD in the UK.

Yesterday, I phoned BMG France and the Platinum Club, and they both told me that Whitney WILL come
in Europe, and they assured that she will also come in France!!! In the Platinum Club, they also
heard that Whitney should come at the end of May, but there is nothing precise yet. I'll all let you
know as soon as I get more information!!!

Lex wants you to hear his version of the "Wetten Dass?" show on his website.
I am a member of BMG Music Service, a CD club,
and this month's featured artist is Whitney
Houston. MLYIL is now available on BMG Music
Service. The CD cover is also the catalog's
cover.

But the most important thing is that in this show, they added some
references about Whitney´s life and... they SHOWED A SCREEN INCLUDING 5
OF THE MOST IMPORTANT WEBS IN INTERNET ABOUT WH. GUESS WHO APPEARS AT SECOND POSITION
(after the official web in ARISTA). Of course, YOUR SITE. Girllll, you are breaking ground. Your
web has appeared in TV, in Spain (few miles away from Canada), at less its address, and in 2nd place!!!
Congratulations!!

I am listening the radio (40 Principales). Guess what is the stupid
thing they are talking about. They say that Whitney is doing as Michael
Jackson, she is changing her colour skin in order to look a
non-colour person.
Can you believe it? They say that Whitney is in touch with some
medical doctors, and I think these guys better go to one before say
this kind of lies.

INRBIOK debut's at no.3 in the official uk charts today. It's very unlikely that the song will reach
no.1 as the uk charts tends to only have debut no.1's, plus Irish band Boyzone release a cover of
Billy Oceans "when the going gets tough" in aid of red nose day, which is likely to be no.1 next
week. Never mind WH-fans, this is her biggest debut in the UK in her career which says something
about the ladies staying power. [more chart news]

THE MLIYL TOUR! Hot news for europe-fans: Whitney said in an interview shown in "Top Of The Pops", that she will
give several concerts this autumn (99) in Germany! I don't know, if there will be other concerts in other countries. Unfortunately I do not know any exact dates. (neither does Rachel the Webmaster!)

Whitney Nominated for Blockbuster Award!! Whitney is nominated for Best R&B Female against Janet and Brandy.
The fans can vote on this award. I think you can only vote once or it takes
votes away or something. Janet won last year in this category. VOTE NOW!

Also Whitney

IAA or whatever the honors people for their Charity work. She is in Yanilla
with Bobby and BK.

Chart News has been updated.
According to CNN, the Titanic soundtrack is now the best
selling movie soundtrack of all time with one
billion (yes, billion) copies worldwide. (submitted by: Nicole)
Just a quick correction from news submitted earlier about the Titanic Soundtrack. The movie has grossed over a billion dollars worldwide but, according to Billboard Magazine, the Titanic Soundtrack has only sold 10 million units. Even if these are only U.S. figures, the worldwide sales can't even be close to one billion copies. Rest assure WH fans, the Bodyguard Soundtrack is still the best selling soundtrack of all time with a total of 34 million units worldwide. Don't believe everything you hear!

This is what I found on BBC text
Review INRBIO
«30 years ago after man walked on the moon, an even more incredible feat
has been accomplished - old quiver lips has released a decent single.
Angry, soulful and worryingly good - so where's the fun in that?»
(submitted by: Chantal K.)
Last week's issue of Billboard Magazine featured Kelly Price in a section called Air Waves. She spoke about recording with WH and talked about it being not only a thrill, but like a giant slumber party. She says, " Whitney told us we needed to have an all-girls weekend, so she, Faith, and I left our men at home and went down to her condo in Miami. It was like 'Waiting to Exhale' all over. We talked about men, our children, carpooling, wiping runny noses. I had a lot of fun . . . It was also amazing singing with her; she's someone I've been listening to all my life. She has that kind of heavy, gospel-rooted voice that's so powerful. I thanked her for paving the way for singers with voices like mine."
(submitted by: Brad H.)
It is true! Yesterday I've seen INRBIO on the
German TV VIVA. She's on #88 in Germany.

The latest news on the Bodyguard sequel is that
Fergie will appear in it. I found this article on
the BBC Radio 1 Website:
Fergie Will be in Bodyguard Sequel ! According to
Kevin Costner: Kevin Costner is apparently going around telling
his Hollywood friends that he's persuaded Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York to take a role in
his sequel to the ‘Bodyguard’! However, it was Costner who announced that he had persuaded
Diana, Princess of Wales to star in this same movie - an announcement he made only after
Diana's death. Unfortunately this article doesnt mention Whitney
but she better be in it or else it'll be a flop.
(submitted by: BMC)
PS. I saw Whitney perform INRBIOK on TOTP last
night and she looked and sang fantastic!!!
(submitted by: BMC)
I also saw WH at Top Of The Pops in England. She looked great and her
performance was also very good. She was wearing sort of baggy pants and
a top.

One of my local radio stations is doing something very interesting. Before they play a
Whitney Houston song, they do a two minute or so tribute to her. The tribute consists of Babyface, Missy Elliott, Method Man, and a few others taliking about how Whitney has influ
enced them and the first time they ever heard her sing. Babyface says that Whitney is his fav
orite singer and Method Man says he used to
only date girls that looked like Whitney. I don't
know if this something from Arista or just from
my local station. After the tribute, they go right
into Whitney's song.
(submitted by: Nicole)
Whitney appears in a 3-page article at "Showbizz" magazine in Brazil !! They comment about the 90's
divas (Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Madonna, Shania). Whitney looks good!
(submitted by: Rodrigo C.)
On Deborah Cox's website, she talks about how it felt to sing with Whitney at the Arista Pre-Grammy Party on Tuesday!
(submitted by: RTWM)
In the L.A. Times, there's an article about the Oscar's Big Song Squabble, concerning WYB duet.
