SECOND ANNIVERSARY CONTEST!!! Did you win?

I am having a Whitney Houston screen saver custom made. If you were making a screen saver, which pictures (from the picture gallery) would you have as a slide in your screen saver? [fill out the form].

Rachel is taking a year off from her studies to enter the job market in order to gain more experince in her field of study (computer engineering). Presently interviewing for jobs + looking for a place to live in the Ottawa area [read: busy!]

Whitney is going to attend the MTV video music awards on Sept 10,1998 live check local listings. for time. (submitted by: Trinity)

Funny, but the official webiste doesn't mention a word of WH's "appearance". Visit the official Awards website.

A friend of mine called me all excited from work today and wanted me to check out any release info. on the WH/MC duet "When You Believe." He wants people to know that as a manager for Kay Bee Toys in Bethesda MD., he has heard the new duet on the stores latest in store music system cassette and says it is great. He encourages fans to hang out at KB's and check it out!! You might be spending some time in the store but, keep an ear out for it! (submitted by: David)

I don't know if this is news as much as it is info but I just watched an MTV interview with Mariah, She said Whitney was "fun in the studio" and that the media hype about the two of them not getting along was totally not true. She also said that the song will have a very strong message and that "if there was ever a song that would bring us together this is it". Also, MTV said, and I quote "Whitney's yet to be titled album is due for a FALL RELEASE while the Prince of Egypt is due Nov 3, and Mariah's album is due Nov 10." That makes me think Whintey's album will be out sooner than we think. (submitted by: Jimmy W.)

Yesterday, Entertainment Tonight said that Whitney is set to "conjure up some magic" live at the Emmy Awards with a "special salute to 'Cinderella.'" No other details were given, but it sounds like a performance. The Emmy Awards will air Sunday, September 13, from the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium on NBC. Earlier this week, ET also mentioned that Brandy will be performing for "Cinderella." (submitted by: Lisa D.)

In addition, the August 31 issue of Jet Magazine features a five-page article about Whitney's birthday celebration. [The pictures from this article will be available on this website whenever I have time.] (submitted by: Lisa D.)

About 2 weeks ago i asked if ever R. Kelly had worked with Nippy and no one was sure. OK yesterday i heard from WBLS 107.5 confirming that indeed R. Kelly is working on some songs with Nippy. He also has a duet with Celine Dion on his CD(but that is another story)Nippy really did it this time, all this hot producers. I guess she is making a Double CD. (submitted by: Emanuel)

Whitney will attend the emmy's. She will introduce and host the segment on "Cindereela" then and now, she will then introduce Brandy, who will sing "sweetest sounds". Visit the official Emmy Awards website. (submitted by: Dave)

I just heard on Entertainment Tonight that Whitney will be appearing on the 50th Annual Emmy Awards show in a special tribute dedicated to Cinderella. This will air September 13/98. Whitney is not scheduled to sing. Also Brandy will be there. (submitted by: Eugene)

I found this is the 8/28/98 New York Daily News:
Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown have once again quieted divorce rumors. The oft-turbulent couple spent Wednesday night grooving with friends at Brian McKnight's show at Radio City Music Hall. The diva appered to be in disguise, with a blond wig, sun glasses and a big hat, but blew her cover when she jumped up onto a chair and was shimmying like crazy. Brown, wearing a hat and bright white suit, took her by the hand to get her to leave. (submitted by: Sharon)

ASIDE COMMENT: What the hell is wrong with WH? Was she drunk or what? As if she had to be escorted out!

Here's a link to a site where you can vote for your fave albums of each decade(right now they're featuring the 1980s, but you can clink on links in the site to vite for albums from the '60s & '70s; next week they're adding the '90s). You're allowed one ballot(w/up to 10 albums on it) per e-mail address per decade; they have albums listed(WH's debut is on the '80s list), plus you can write in any album(s) you want Click here: Wall of Sound Top 100 Albums. Yesterday I was reading an important paper here in Brazil, and something called my attention. There was a note that said that Whitney Houston and Gloria Estefan are participating of the new album of "Só Pra Contrariar". Who remembers the World Music Awards 98, will remember that this group, SPC, won the award for best selling in Brazil, over 3 million copies. Their music style is the most popular in Brazil: Pagode (it's kind of a slow Samba). (submitted by: Fernanda)

Hey! Guess who got hatemail today!

WH's bodyguard broke her camera in the Bahamas...

I spoke to the BMG rep today . He told me that it looks like Whitney's next release is going to be a double hits package with about three songs .He said that they want to have everything ready in case Sony changes Mariahs release date. He also confirmed that the release of the duet will be split with each artist name appearing first on the product. They want everything split so if there is a display set up for Mariah there MUST be one in that same store for Whitney . (submitted by: Alan M.)

Where I work, a person from our local UPN affiliate station brought in UPN's new fall season lineup booklet to be copied. Well, I was looking through it and it had for September Specials, SOul Train's The Lady of Soul Awards. In the description it said "performing will be Whitney Houston, En Vogue, Janet Jackson" and some others. Also said something about Mariah getting an award for entertainer of the year. So i wonder if UPN is just misinformed like TV stations can be alot of times or if janet really IS performing at the awards. Anyone else hear anything? (submitted by: Dave)

USA Today ran an article about the duet w/ MC. (submitted by: Anderz + et. al.)

Music Notes from Billboard Magazine. (submitted by: John L.)

Re the WH/MC duet, New York City radio station WBLS-FM was reporting this morning that half of the albums produced will list the artists of the duet as WH and MC, while the other half will list as MC and WH. They did not say who their source was. I'm not sure if this applies to the single or as it will appear on the album, I think it is the album. Will let you know if I hear any more. (submitted by: Ed S.)

Lady of Soul Awards TV appearance? News from a Janet Jackson BBS. (submitted by: Dave)

Huge press release photo of WH + MC in the studio. If you ask me, it looks like their 'chemistry' is really fake. This pic was obviously take for release to the public. (submitted by: Anderz)

Today at work we got a listing of upcomeing NEW RELEASES and guess who was on the list ! Nov 3RD "The Prince of Egypt" (3 different soundtracks).
Nov 10th, Whitney and Mariah, both divas are due to release cds the same day! Faith Evans also has a release date for the end of October. I will hopefully speak to the record company this week and I will keep you posted ! (submitted by: Alan M.)

Blues and Soul Magazine in the UK reports that on the KayGee Remix of Next's forthcoming single ("I still love you"), Rapper Big Pun totally takes the piss out of WH. Have you or anyone else heard this track? Im afraid I have no more details.
Other Rappers who have mentioned Whitney are LL Cool J (on a remix of Brandy's "sittin' up in my room") and some guy on the Allstar remix of SWV's "your the one for me". (submitted by: Sadiq V.)

News about the MC duet, which is apparently done. (submitted by: Matt)

Review of Portuguese concert, from July /98. Thanks to all of you who took time to translate it for us!

There is an interesting piece on Bobby Brown in the September fifth anniversary issue of Vibe. He reveals that his next album will be the "first\funk gospel project." He assures folks that "Bobby's still the baddest onstage" and even claims that he and New Edition all "have the minds of geniuses." What an ego! (submitted by: Kevin)

Billboard Chart update. (submitted by Rob N.)

I've got more news about the "Prince of Egypt" There is a little article about it in the french TV magazine "Télé 7 Jours": The movie should come out in France on December 16 (this is wat they say but I'm not sure about that) (submitted by Julian S.)

CONFLICTING REPORTS:
AOL News says it's gonna be a greatest hits album or a live recording album; but the "Arista Weekly Word Arena" tells of a full-length album of all-new material. [read both reports]. Rachel feels that, in this case, the Arista report is more reliable.

MAJOR SCOOP!!!! Information on Mariah duet leaked from Babyface's entourage! Mariah crumbles; Whitney reins! You have got to read this! Feel free to discuss this matter on the BBS. (submitted by: B.A.)

There was an article in the Los Angeles Times CALENDAR section on Sunday, Aug.16th that read: SMALL FACES: Babyface and Davis Foster have both signed on to produce tracks for W hitney Houston's first non-movie album since "I'm Your Baby Tonite" in 1990. Sean Puffy Combs, Jermaine Dupri, Missy Elliot and R.Kelly are also in discussion to produce songs. The just recorded duet of Houston and Mariah Carey for the animated film "Prin ce of Egypt" will also be on the album, fue for fall release... [original article] (submitted by: Rod V.)

Rock group The Lemonheads did a 'folky' remake of "How Will I Know", back in October 1996. Listen to the RealAudio file for this, from the Canadian Online Explorer. (submitted by: Carlos C.)

Article from the Boston Globe Newspaper. (submitted by: Carlos C.)

You can hear the ENTIRE acoustic "How Will I Know" on the Lemonheads' website at http://come.to/lemonheads! You can puchase this rare U.K. single from Music Blvd.. Apparently, there are TWO versions -- one 'acoustic' and another which is 'electric'. I hope someone can find/put the electric one online...

I just read in a brazilian magazine that Mariah was shooting her next video in Spain and that the album would be out in SEPTEMBER!! Meaning we will be able to listen to the duet on her album first. Maybe she will promote another song first and let WH promote the duet as the first song from her album. [FYI: The Brazillian Press also prints tabloid stories as the truth, so don't necessarily count on this info.] (submitted by: Danny Marc)

I have just gotten off the phone to a member of the Arista publicity staff. They told me that it is possible that the new album will be possiblely released on Nov 10th or sooner. That person also told me that is wasn't decided if it would be a greatest hits or full album yet. (submitted by: Gary B.)

Duh! I omitted Kool Jay's e-mail address from his listing! oops!

It was reported on MTV News , yesterday, that Whitney has completed working on a song with Missy which is to be included on Nippy's next Album. It was also reported that Nippy was currently concluding studio work with Mariah on a duet which is to be included in the the Prince of Egypt soundtrack. The report further stated that Whitney's next album is slated to be released next fall. I guess the New CD is finally coming. (submitted by: Trevor P.)

R. Kelly listed, in the September issue of the Ebony Magazine, the major superstars that he has written songs for. The singers include Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Gladys Knight (see pages 42 & 43). I guess we can take it that Nippy has accepted to sing the song which the super-tallented song writer wrote specially for her. Well we'll just have to wait and see. (submitted by: Trevor P.)

Listen to the audio files from Entertainment Tonight. There is one for last night's show, which featured WH's Birthday Bash in NYC, as well as the ET show which featured the Magic Johnson Show (which has now been canc elled) where U can hear WH sing a bit of Stevie Wonder's "If It's Magic". This song is on Stevie's 1976 classic "Songs in the Ke y of Life" which happens to be both Rachel and Oprah Winfrey's all-time favourite album. If you've never heard of this wonderful recording, I suggest you pick it up... obviously, Whitney loves this CD, too, cuz she sang "Love's In Need of Love" in Sou th Africa in 1994.

My friend was in New York's Times Square, yesterday. Walking around when she saw about 8 limos parked down a side street, as she walk up to see why there was so many (nice) cars a black Porsha (?) pull up and out jumped WHITNEY ! She was going into a bui lding and my friend said she heard them tell Whitney that "they had been waiting for her -- but not that long". She also said that it looked like Mr Brown driving the car but the windows were tinted . (submitted by: Alan M.)

Rolling Stone Mag from 1993 (new) on Kool Jay's listing.

More details about the birthday bash from Robert. Read it!

From "Access Hollywood": For her 35th birthday, WH asked that party attendees donate to her Foundation for Children in lieu of gifts (this is similar to what she did at her wedding). (submitted by: Chip H.)

According to the Associated Press in the U.S., WH is working w/Lauryn Hill on a remake of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". (From Manish's Whitney website)

Matt T. reports that there is a NEW pop-up video from Whitney. Apparently, they've done "I Wanna Dance", as well as "IYBT", which we already know about. This video will not be shown on this Thursday's episode on VH1. You can make suggestions/requests to the Pop-Up people-- maybe you'd like them to have an entire show for WH vids, like they have for Rod Steward, the Rolling Stones, Madonna and many other artists.

The VH1 website says that it will be the "IYBT" video on popup video on Thrusday.

Why is there still no mention of WH + MC on the Prince of Egypt website???

8/10/98
Can anyone (preferrably on the West Coast) fax this MS Word Document [made with latest version of Word, so don't bother to download if U don't own Word97] to Arista Headquaters in California? I don't know their phone/fax number.

WARNING! to all the people who are annoying me and trying to push me to do things better / faster on this webpage: important webmaster quits! If I am late doing something, it's cuz maybe I might have a life and other responsibilities, besides the web, so BACK OFF!

A Whitney-fan camped out in front of the restaurant in NYC where WH was celebrating her birthday! Robert even talked to Clive Davis about the new album! Read the full report! [Robert has promised more details later this evening.]

Tonight on E.T.! Rachel just happened to catch E.T. tonite. They showed footage of WH's birthday party! Look for the audio of the mini-interview later tonite, exclusively on the WHWW. WH looked great in a black dress and she had the same hair style as she did on the Europe tour. ET made mention of the new album to be released 'this fall'.

They will also have a bit about it on Access Hollywood tonite.

Thursday, August 13th 1998 at 4:30 pm on VH1 : Pop-Up Video featuring videos by Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Vanessa Williams and Natalie Cole. This is probably the IYBT video.

The song "If You Still Believe" can be heard throughout the trailer that is being played in movie theatres for "the Prince Of Egypt". The song is performed by someone else but you can still hear the basic melody and words. It is playing before "Saving Private Ryan". It sounds like a ballad...very Houston-esque like! (submitted by: Rod V.)

Happy Birthday Whitney!
8/07/98
WH and Mariah were in the studio TODAY! The song is entitled "When You Believe". Read the reports!

There's a interesting question concerning WH and the duet in this week's Fred Bronson's (billboard). He predicts that the *WH/ Mariah* will be one of the longest running singles of all time. [read the entire Q&A] (submitted by: Danny M.D.)

On the Gossip show, which airs on the E channel, they said today that Whitney is going to appear on the soundtrack to Prince Of Egypt. She will be recording a duet with MADONNA, not Mariah Carey. They never even mentioned Mariah's name. This show is usually right on. This changes everything! (submitted by: paul a.)

Earlier someone said that E! had reported Madonna and Whitney were doing a song together. I watched the exact thing on t.v. and they said that Madonna and Whitney were doing a movie together. They didn't say anything about a duet. (submitted by: Nadel T.)

If there is a Madonna fan who knows more info, please report it. If you are on a Madonna Mailing list, please give me some info.

8/04/98
FYI: Rachel knows where Whitney's birthday party will be held, but I don't wanna post it online cuz I'm sure WH doesn't want to be hounded by fans on that joyous occasion. Don't even think of asking me via e-mail!

Whitney Houston Platinum sales award plaque available at the Ebay online auction.

Jermaine Dupri was featured in Sunday "The Atlanta Journal & Constitution". He talked about his new producing success with Usher, Mariah, & Monica. He also talked about building up his record label So SO Def Records. Jermaine went on to say that he was making time to work with Whitney Houston on her new project. (submitted by: Ralph N.)

You can now download pictures and a short video clip of WH's last Rosie O'Donnell appearance on the Rosie O'Donnell website.

This morning on Jammin' 94.5 in Boston, the regular tabloid reporter that calls in from NYC said that she met Bobby Brown yesterday at a restaurant/bar, and they chatted for a few minutes. He told her that he was picking up some food to take back to Whitney, who was IN THE STUDIO.     :) (submitted by: Brian)
