On May 22/98, USA TODAY Newspaper named "Cinderella" one of the
"10 Magical Moments (that) Define(d) a Fine Season"
(they were listed alphabetically). Here's what
they sd about it: "Extravagantly produced & cast, this multicultural adaptation of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic breathed new life into the TV musical & the return ing 'Wonderful World of Disney'. 'Cinderella' extends its timeless fantasy to a new generation-and to minorities, who previously had been shut out." It would have been nice if they had mentioned WH, who was responsible for the whole thing (especially it's multiculturalism & her putting it on broadcast TV, because she wanted children & elderly people who didn't go to the cinema or have cable to be able to see it). You might recall that the BALTIMORE SUN newspaper named it one of the 10 best programs of 1997 - I posted that fact late '97 or early '98. (submitted by: Chip H.) New Japan Import: Whitney Live in Concert on DVD available June 23/98 from CD now. No one knows yet what the 'live concert' is. It may be the "Classic Whitney" -- but that's just a guess. E! Online reported by: Ted Casablanca: Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey will, together, sing the title song to DreamsWorks first animated feature "Prince of Egypt." Read the entire article. Sister 2 Sister Magazine (July 1998 issue) reports that there may be a Japan Tour coming up in September! The mag also talked about the "Dorothy Dandridge" movie which is already in production. Rehearsals for the summer tour start at the end of May in the New York area.
After the tour she has plans to record a new album of studio material. AND work on a film project with Will Smith which will have its own soundtrack record. In June, Whitney will be presenting an award to Diana Ross; details to follow. There is a small pic of WH and Bobby in the June/July issue of VIBE magazine (with Usher on the cover). The picture was from the after-Grammy awards party of Arista records. WH looked good -- as usual. |

Whao! My little [adoptive] brother was watching a rerun of "Family Matters", that early 90's sitcom starring geek-galore Urkle. In this episode Urkle attempts to serenade his long-time love interest 'Laura' by singing a karaoke version of "Saving All My Love 4 You", but his changes the lyrics.
It was very funny. After all these years, WH's song is *still* in the American Pop Culture. |

Summer Concert Tour? It is apparent that WH is doing a mini-tour of Europe this summer. FYI: For Canadians, "VH1 Divas Live" airs on Much May 21/98. Features Celine, Gloria, Shania, Aretha and Mariah's big hair. If you get VH-1, you will be interested to note that VH1 is having a mother's day special and Whitney is going to be one of those mother's. WHAT A WASTE! Whitney Houston made an appearance on the Today Show on NBC this morning at about 8:30 AM. She was with her mother, who was promoting her new book. The pair was orignially scheduled to appear last Monday. Rachel took precautions to visit the Today Show website to see if they mentioned Whitney in the 'show preview' section. This morning at 6:30AM (when Rachel woke to go to work) there was absolutely nothing about WH on their website! Now what the heck is that? Why would they not at least put it on their website?! I am sooooooooooo furious! Needless to say, me and many WH fans missed the unscheduled apperance. I can't believe how incompetant NBC is! This is out of character for a network that usually is on top. At least when WH is on Good Morning America, (on ABC) they give plenty of notice. Cissy Houston was promoting her new book "How Sweet The Sound: My Life with God an Gospel". The interview lasted about 5 minutes. Read Pat's report of the show apperance! (from: Rock on TV) Apparently, Bad Boy Bobby was in another car accident: Bobby Brown was in a car crash near his Mendham, New Jersey home late last week. The singer, who was slightly injured, was riding in a Range Rover driven by his friend Shawn Cummings, when it flipped over. Cummings was not hurt. (from Electronic Urban Report)

Important news (speculation?) about the Greatest Hits Package (GHP). Read the 'insider' news! Kiss The Stone, a bootleg CD company in Europe was closed last year when the authorities caught up with them (I guess)... But GOOD NEWS! They are back under new management...
