Whitney was a no-show at the Moonie
thing in Washington! She called in
sick! I [Rachel] am glad because they tricked her and other artists into
performing for a religious cult.
Mr ShowBiz.com has an article about WH's not show...
(submitted by: Sella)
Unfortunately, on a stop during my loooooong trip home for this weekend,
I stopped and read a tabloid mag w/ Whitney on the cover. The bodyguard in
a HAWAI night stop entales a, "white powdered substance", which Bobby
allegedly put in his drink -- and in Whitney's. He says it was coke,
Bobby's spokes person says it was whipped cream... I idunno what to think
anymore... Why would Bobby's people even acknowledge this in the
first place? [BTW: this was not an 'unnamed source', the bodyguard gave
his full name, etc.]

Happy Wedding Anniversary! Today is not only Rache's Mom's birthday, but it's the Decoste's 25th wedding anniversary! Congratulations!
Whitney and Rosie have apparently reconciled because they are appearing
together on Saturday night, November 29th on an episode of Saturday Night Live. [Rachel thinks that this is a
RERUN of last's year's SNL Christmas Special, which aired December 14/96].

Whitney is named as "Loser of the Week" in this week's Entertainment Weekly
for agreeing to sing at the Moonie concert. Bobby is "Loser of the Week 2" for the sluggish sales of "Forever". It only debuted at 62 or something like that. (submitted by: Pat R.)
Due to popular demand, Whitney's version of "Baby, I Love You" has been added to the audio page, on Real Audio.
On E! News (Nov. 23, 1997) and they had a poll on their website asking who viewers
thought were their favorite women singers turned actresses and Whitney Houston was on the list as
#2. Cher was #1. But we all know that Whitney is the best. (submitted by: Sophia)

Classic Whitney will be on regular HBO on Dec.1st. at 10:00 pm. I think
it will be the Oct.3rd concert, so anyone who has american cable, set your VCR's! (submitted by: Anna D.)
Yesterday Nov.19th, Whitney's mom, Cissy was promoting
her new gospel CD called "He leadeth me" at HMV record store
and she sang a couple of songs w/ some gospel singers...
I met her at HBO concert and she remembered that, she said WHITNEY is doing fine,
still under the weather a little but nothing serious...
Get Cissy Houston's album if you can it's great!!! (submitted by: Anna D.)

Columbia Music has a website for the Princess Diana Tribute Album at www.dianatributealbum.com. They have the song lising on there, and WH is on DISC 2.
Whitney was shown on the Rosie O'Donnell Show yesterday. Rosie is finally going to have her idol, Barbra Steisand, on her show this Friday and she showed much of the past footage of her and guests talking
about Barbra. Whitney was one of those, as she appeared on December 13/96.
By the way: Rosie O'Donnell had the Cast of "Cats" bash Whitney in their sweeps week song on November 18th. It seems Rosie is still vexed by the Whitney no-show. (submitted by: Wayne B.)
Todd Terry (DJ and remixer) was on BBC last night. He said he had done a remix for WH.

VH1 in Europe are currently conducting a poll to find the Top Recording Artist Ever!
You can e:mail them at top3artists@mtvne.com.
They want people to mail them with their Top 3 Recording Artists. Lets hope loads of Whitney fans
enter to make her number 1 where she belongs! She is featured in the promo piece about this
competition too! (submitted by: Emma M.)
I heard a rumor, that after one more album, she is leaving Arista Records, and bringing out music under her own label! Also that the Classic Whitney Hits package is coming out in UK first, with two new songs that she has already recorded. Also that
the CD here is not a greatest hits package and it is a "cd of songs that inspired her", in other words all covers of old songs. The man at Tower records told me this! (submitted by: Dave B.)
Despite reports that Whitney Houston didn't realize she
signed on to sing at a mass wedding ceremony for followers of the
controversial Rev. Sun Myung Moon, the singer has decided to keep
the engagement. The event will be held Nov. 29 in Washington D.C.
Houston's spokeswoman was quoted as saying Whitney was offered
a "low seven figures" for the performance and that when she signed
up organizers presented the event as a "world culture and sports festival."

Today on the Rosie O'Donnell Show, Aretha Franklin was a guest. Apparently, Rosie is still vexed about the Whitney no-show:
« Rosie asked Aretha how she was doing, Aretha said "I'm doing fine now, but I wasn't last night. I was sick... throwing up and all....". Rosie said "Wow! And you still came to the show and sang like that?!... Cause other people haven't done that. I don't wanna say any names -- [looking into the camera] Whitney Houston -- but other people have not showed up when they "felt ill". Whatever. I adore you and who doesn't. »

Want to hear songs from "Classic Whitney"? see the audio page.
On Spanish radio, "Cadena 100 Radio" (a serious musical
radio, in Spain) said that, due to the success of Cinderella in USA, Whitney has declared
that she wants every kid all wide world has the chance to watch "cindirella" so she is trying that
the movie be realised at the movies in Europe. (submitted by: Charo G. R.)
This morning on the Howard Stern show, they said a little something about Whitney was going to perform at a
"Sung Myung Moon" wedding jamboree.
About Whitney singing for the Moonies. I got a flyer about the event.
The flyer does not say anything about her. The event is called "Blessing 97". It will be held
on 11/29/97, from 10am-12:30pm, at RFK Stadium, in Washington, DC. (submitted by: Rhonda B.)
A quote from the November 18 of the Globe (Trash Magazine) is that Whitney is:
«scheduled to perform at the Moonies "Blessing '97" at RFK Stadium in
Washington DC on Nov. 29. »
Probably not true, considering the source, but I'm a Moonie for day if she's
going to be there. The article mentions her publicist Lois Smith (?) as confirming the date as
'just another gig' and not an endorsement... There is an accompanying pic
which I have not seen before and worth the $1.39 I paid for the rag.The RFK and a recorded announcement confirmed that she is 'scheduled' to appear their on Nov.29. The number is
202-547-9077. (submitted by: Dave)
Not to belabor the issue - but the recent HBO concert on Nov 8 featured
parts from both shows. The only evening she entered through the crowd was on
Sunday. Nonetheless, I loved both shows and can't get enough of her voice.

Here are excerpts from the Wall Street Journal:
Looking to boost its home-video business, Walt Disney Co. is preparing video releases for many of the original made-for-television movies it is producing for the revived "Wonderful World of Disney" program that airs on the company's ABC network.
Disney is also contemplating releasing some of the TV movies in theaters overseas. The title being given primary consideration for such treatment is "Cinderella," which scored blockbuster ratings on ABC when it aired Nov.2.
Disney announced a video release of "Cinderella" last week, but it was widely viewed as a one-time attempt to capitalize on an extraordinarily popular show. The TV movie, which starred Brandy and Whitney Houston, was seen by an estimated 60 million viewers and helped carry ABC to a rare win in the weekly ratings race.
International theatrical releases also provide an intriguing possibility for the TV movies. With an eye toward that, Disney last month held a test screening for "Cinderella" in Pasadena, Calif., with encouraging results. If a decision is made to prepare a theatrical release, the film would need additional work to prepare it for the big screen. Disney also would have to revise its agreement with the actors and other talent associated with "Cinderella," whose contracts for the film didn't account for anything more than normal television distribution.

The opening story in Entertainment Weekly this week is all about the Rosie fall-out, painting a very bad picture of dear Whitney, despite the success of Cinderella. The
article chronicles the "bad" year Whitney has suffered, citing the flop of
Preacher's Wife, the industry speculation about her mis-guided performance on
HBO, and of course, the Rosie debacle (which is the main focus of the article).
The whole article is so mean-spirited, and I still don't
understand why everyone is so hard on the Classic Whitney performance. This
makes me very sad! (submitted by: Pat R.)
Last night, the most watched program on Sunday's nights in BRAZIL was showing a report about successful black people,
and discrimination, and etc, and they showed Cinderella as the latest big
hit of black people in American Television, they talked about Whitney,
Brandy and Whoopi that has African origins and about Paolo, that has
Asian origin, and showed Janon and Bernadette - which are white people,
that are considered "normal" - showing the mixture of races. (submitted by: Fernanda)
According to "New York Daily News" gossip columnists George Rush and Joanna Molloy, Whitney Houston wasn't able to
make husband Bobby Brown's music release party in New York for his new CD "Forever." But apparently that didn't stop him from hamming it up with Playboy playmates Daphne DuPlaix and Victoria
Zdrok. (from the Electronic Urban REport, submitted by Devin M.) I just want to say that "just because you've bought your merchandise, doesn't mean you can't do any window-shopping." They are
always looking for a way to nail Bobby.

All the news pages (you can search the old news) have been redesigned. Hope U like it.
Whitney's Classic Whitney was on again November 8tht at 9:00 pm on "HBO2". Yet, it wasn't the one that was taped on Oct. 5. They showed the concert from Oct. 3rd. I think they showed this one because they realized it was a lot better. They did cut out 3 songs though. I think that was due to time and the references she made to "Sunday night". I hope that everyone got a chance to see it because you could see for yourself how much better it was. I would encourage anyone who missed it to write to HBO and ask
them to air it again. I was very happy that I got a chance to experience everything that I had that night all over again! (submitted by: Diana G.)
So now, there are TWO "Classic Whitney's" that you will want to collect. The original that aired LIVE on October 5th, and the other concert (in which Whitney's voice was in top shape) that was October 3rd.
The [October 3rd?] concert will air again Friday November 21 on "HBO3".

Whitney is taking a well deserved break after 'Cinderella' and the 'HBO Classic Whitney' concerts.
Although, no one has forgotten her as witnessed in the November 8 issue of Billboard, 'The Preacher's Wife' remains at #2 on the Top Gospel Albums Chart. (submitted by: Dean, taken from the Platinum Club)
E!Online's Ted Casablanca's "Awful Truth" featured Whitney this week. They don't have too many nice things to say, and even "a WH confidant" is "worried".

In response to hundreds of queries, Buena Vista Home Entertainment confirmed that it will debut Disney's presentation of Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA on home video January 13, 1998, starring Whitney Houston and Brandy. (submitted by: Lisa D.)
Todays Daily News (paper) reported that Whitney did not attend Bobby's album Release party on Tuesday night at a New York hot spot . They said that she was under the weather and wasn't feeling up to it . I hope she is ok -she has been sick alot !
(submitted by: Alan M.)
Supposedly there is a widespread rumor in the music industry that Whitney has been diagnosed with an illness. Arista and her public relations are steadfastly denying the allegations and are only quoted as saying "whitney is under the weather". Apparently it is this illness that wreaks havoc on Whitney's golden voice. I have always wondered how Whitney's voice can sound like it's always sounded years ago in one performance and then after viewing her a few days later her voice is harsh and strained. Cinderella was a marvelous and beautiful movie and Whitney's voice was glorious. This supposed illness is responsible for her Greatest Hits collection to be postponed. Arista plans to send her on a worldwide concert tour to promote the hits package but because her doctors insistence that she's not physically capable at this point.
(submitted by: Corey)
Somehow, Rachel thinks there may be something to this rumoured "illness", but thinks the "Greatest Hits" postponed thing is
a tall tale.

You can now hear "Nobody Does It Better" as it appears on Bobby Brown's new CD.
(submitted by: Charles & Trevor) Rachel was reading the current "Ebony Magazine" and she read that althought Whitney has the rights to the Dorothy Dandrige story, she will NOT be playing the title role! This is a quote from the article:
«Whitney has long had the rights to Donald Bogle's story on Dorothy Dandridge, which will possibly go into production in 1998. However, Deborah Martin Chase, executive vice president of Whitney's company, says the singer will not star as the beautiful, troubled star of the '40s and '50s, but Whitney "totally committed" to producing it. "We want Dorothy's story told right, with dignity and honor," says Chase. "The project is on our fast-track." »
WARNING! Don't get too exited. We all know that when they say 1998, it could mean December 1998, which is closer to 1999. Also, what the heck does "We want Dorothy's story told right, with dignity and honor" mean? Is there any other way Whitney would want to do it? and as for "The project is on our fast-track" ??? What kind of a statement is that?
The full article from the November issue of Ebony Magazine is now online in the "Cinderella" section. Also look for new pictures there, too.
Ever want to read the articles in which the Whitney Worship Webpage and/or Rachel were mentioned? It's all here!
I was just reading the Washington Post, and spotted this. I haven't heard about this project before:
Kasi Lemmons, who wrote the screenplay and directed the new film "Eve's Bayou," was commissioned to write four other studio scripts. One of them is a mystery-drama called "Eight Pieces for Josette," and is set to star Whitney Houston for Warner Bros.
