FROM A PEOPLE MAGAZINE ARTICLE
Classic rock certainly has wrought some of the worst
abuses of that quizzical phrase, "instant classic." But they
aren't alone. Take the upcoming "Classic Whitney"
[Houston] HBO concert. Who knows, maybe in the year
2525, if man is still alive, Houston will be right up there
with Mozart (and Jethro Tull) as a musical master. But her
career to date has barely topped a decade. Does that
make "Classic Whitney" stuff from K to six? Maybe -- her
style has changed little since 1985. Since there's no clear
Post-Classic Whitney style, does "Classic" mean she'll
perform, uh, Mozart and Tull? Instant classic, for sure.

HBO is showing an exquisite new commercial for CW, this one has her in the
white dress with the pillars singing Step by Step a capella interspersed
with her talking about her musical influences (Dionne/Aretha). It is
georgeous! And she sounds fantastic! Plus the new TV Guide reported on
the concert this week and said she will be singing hits such as I will
always love you, Exhale, and The Greatest Love (again?) in addition, there
will be a tribute to her influences including songs by Dionne, Aretha, and
a medly selection from Porgy and Bess!!!!

Classic Whitney - Front Cover artwork & Concert
Down Under!!! Whitney will be preforming twelve concerts in
Australia before June, 1997. According to an
Austrlian music mag, the concert will be promoting
the new album "Classic Whitney" which is set for
release in Australia by December 15th 1997. It
will have the following front cover!!! (See attachment). I think it looks great. I hope this
will put Whitney back at number one. She has not
been there for a while in Australia, 5 years!!(submitted by: Wes H.)
unfortunately, Wes did not attach the picture file correctly, so I don't have the picture of the CD cover that he refers to...

HOT INSIDER INFO!!!
This is in reference to the soon to be released "Classic Whitney" greatest hits package. Is it true that Arista is actually releasing the widely acclaimed "You Were Loved" as the set's first single? My music industry insiders tell me that the song is being remixed into a house dance track and that it will be the lead off single to the Classic Whitney package. Insiders tell me that Arista has reconsidered releasing the single because of the song's massive appeal and potential. To ensure the potential it will be remixed much like Toni Braxton's "unbreak my heart" and it will coincide with the release of the Preacher's Wife on home video. Arista intends to hit two birds with one stone. This is what my music industry insiders tell me but it seems quite logical to me to promote the greatest hits/remix package and the Preacher's Wife release at the same time. Also, the greatest hits package is three CD's and not only 2. This was told to me as being quite factual. Arista is aiming to break all multi-CD packages
charts with the set.

I live in West Hollywood and I was driving down the street when I looked over

It is the same picture of Whitney in the White dress.... for the HBO

Today, I sent an
e-mail to the VIBE show to tell them to have Whitney on for her promo of "Cinderella". You can e-mail them, too!

I just wanted to tell you that some information that was submitted to you was incorrect. Someone said that the concert tickets for 'Classic Whitney' went on sale September 19th but in actuality, they went on sale August 26th, I know because I purchased the tickets. I'm very excited about going and will definately write a review for the Whitney Worship website. (submitted by: Diana G.)
On Dateline NBC's "Dateline Timeline", they featured the last week of September, 1987... The Queen of England visited Canada; Pee-Wee's Playhouse was a popular kids show; Stakeout was a hit movie; Whitney Houston had a hit with "Where Do Broken Hearts Go".

Whitney was in VIBE's opening jokes. New Barbies:
- Rapper Barbie -- called "Notorious Bar-B. I. G."
- Divorced Barbie -- she comes with all of Ken's stuff.
- Edible Barbie -- called Barbie-Q.
- Barbie that likes to argue with Whitney Houston: Barbie Brown.

Just to keep people from being confused, I was reading my friends new
"Sister 2 Sister," and it had an in-depth interview with Whitney
Houston-Brown and Bobby Brown. They talked about the alleged rumor of
Bobby having something to do with her recent cut,the REAL truth
regarding how she got the cut,and her upcoming duet with Faith Evans.
Whitney stated that the song will be featured on FAITH's album, and
makes no reference to having any other material coming out of hers
besides the Cinderella project..... I wouldn't even start to expect a
new album from Whitney until sometime NEXT year.

Echoes Magazine reports that WH has a duet with Faith Evans
in the pipeline. Since Evans' album is about to drop, the duet may
well be on Greatest Hits (yep, the one we've waiting three years
for!) (submitted by: Sadiq V.)

Whitney's performance on october 3, 1997 in Washington, D.C. at Constitution Hall: tickets went on sale yesterday (9/19/97) at 10 am. today when i called they were sold out. (submitted by: J.R.)
Lemme say this ONCE: don't ask me about getting tickets cuz (1) I am all the way up here in Canada, (2) I can't even afford to go to the concert, (3) if I even had tickets, I woul be using them myself!!!
About 30 new pictures have been added to the picture gallery, thanx to Joyce, Helmut, Ken, Carlos, Niki, (did I miss anyone?). Thanx to all of U for contributing to the WHWW.
The mentioned Whitney in the openning jokes on the Keenan Ivory Wayans show, last Thrusday. It was a joke cc Denzel -- how women go see the PW movie and say to thier boyfrieds "Why can't you be more like Denzel?" to which the man replies "Why can't you look like Whitney"?

On Bobby Brown's new album "Forever," Whitney Houston
starts out the album with a BRIEF introductory rendition of "Nobody
Does it Better." Just letting you know, so that you don't get to
excited in thinking that she has her own full-length song on the album.

Look what I found! and this too!
HBO is really promoting the concert. I saw another ad in "Vanity Fair"
this one says on one side: "HBO invites you...." Then you open it and it has the picture in Us Magazine and basically the same ad. Plus they've been showing commercials up the wazoo on HBO. These
commercials intercut the "step By Step" video with concert footage from "Welcome Home Heroes" and S. Africa. Here is the picture... (submitted by: Pat R.)

On the season premiere of The Oprah Winfrey Show there is supposed to be a special SUPERSTAR. I would love to see Whitney on the Oprah show, but I am not holding her breath. Rachel also worships Oprah and has learned that the surprise is Mariah Carey... promoting her new CD, "Butterfly". :-(
Whitney was in Entertainment Weekly Sept 12. It
said in the music section under remakes we don't
want to hear is "Love Is A Battlefield".

You can read all about the article in EW here and here, too! The article has lots of stuff about the Cinderella Movie. .. [excerpt]
Slated to air Nov. 2,
and intended to be as eternal as the 1965
Lesley Ann Warren classic, Cinderella boasts
Goliath stars (Whitney Houston as the fairy
godmother, Whoopi Goldberg as the queen,
Jason Alexander as the prince's steward) and a
mammoth budget ($12 million, about four times
the tab of the average TV movie)
and Brandy in her princess costume...
Whitney was in the Disney Magazine with a cover
photo and a photo inside for Cinderella. There's
also a pic of Bernadete Peters as the step mom and
the step sisters. It was in the fall issue it
should be out for another month or 2.

Apparently, Whitney attended Gianni Versace's memorial service Sept. 8th in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Someone who attended was interviewed on a television news program, and she mentioned that Elton John opened the event, and Whitney closed it. They didn't show Whitney entering or exiting the venue. First Diana, now Mother Teresa?!?! The world has now lost two humanitarians of great importance. Let us have one minute of cyber-silence to remember these two icons. R.I.P.
The Sept. 12th (hey, that's Rachel's birthday!) issue of Entertainment Weekly has an article featuring the Cinderella special. It mainly focuses on Brandy, but it does mention some general info about the production, and the well-known story of how Whitney called her to offer the job. No Whitney pictures, though.

According to a New York newspaper, Whitney and her husband Bobby were seen dining at a trendy restaurant
on the city's upper West side on Tuesday evening. The couple were reportedly cooing, cuddling, and kissing
blissfully as if on a second honeymoon. The newspaper added that Whitney appeared to be in a particularly
jovial mood, even taking time out from her dinner to sign autographs for a few awestruck young fans who ventured over to the couple's table.

WHITNEY IN WILL SMITH MOVIE
Will Smith and girlfriend, Jada Pinkett, have
written a movie script. In an interview, it was
asked if
they were gonna star in it together, but Will said
that it would be kinda awkward for them to work
together seeing as they're dating, so they are
apparently talking to Whitney about it...
