Arthur Ashe: As you may have seen in the Arthur Ashe Stadium Inauguration,
Arthur
Ashe was a great man. His heydays were in the 1970's, when
most of us weren't around, so you might want to visit
this site about the man that stood against racism and apartheid.

Site of the Day: On August 26th, this site will be the Celebrity
Site of the Day.
This is for all of you who were not aware of this web site back
in December 96. T.V. transcripts from Whitney
appearances.
I received many, many comments about Whitney's performance.
You can discuss it in the Bulletin Board,
if you wish to do so.
Whitney's doctor has instructed her to tone her vocal techiques
down a bit. She has had throat surgery a few times because her vocal
chords are stretched out too much. I have met Whitney a few times in
person, and her voice is alot like it was tonight. She still sounded
great! (submitted by: Meghan)
Not that it matters what the powers that be at LYCOS think [the fans have already spoken], but they apparently are now aware that this site is "one of the best sites on the Web."

REMINDER:
The golden-voiced diva will be giving a special
performance at the U.S. Open tennis tournament TODAY, Monday,
August 25. (submitted by: BlackAtlantic, who will be in attendance!)
Billboard Magazine has compiled the diva stats. Very interesting... and Whtiney is still the record holder in many categories! Go Whitney! (painstakingly compiled by Alexander S. from
the Madonna mailing list)
In the new Time Magazine (September 1, 1997), under Show Business,
there is an article on Dorothy Dandridge and who will play her.
Halle Berry, Janet Jackson, Jada Pinkett, Vanessa Williams and
Whitney are mentioned as possible contenders. Page 73. (submitted
by: Mica J.)
Did you catch Whitney on Entertainment
Tonight this evening? They showed her rehearsing "One Moment
In Time" at the new Arthur Ashe stadium. She was wearing a black
suit and she was with Bobby. I was looking to see if I can see
a scar on her face, but nothing....she looks great!! (submitted

Sad
News! LeAnn Rimes is really doing (has done!!) the cover for "You
Light Up My Life." I just read it in the Billboard singles review.
They say it's a track to show vocal abilities and should be HUGE-
HOW I WISH WHITNEY HAD DONE IT!!!! (submitted by: Danny D.)
You can now search the old news pages.
It works!

Meet & Greet! Meet Whitney Houston
In Washington D.C.! thru the Platinum Fanclub.
Hey, it's only $900.00, not including the airfare! Like, as if I have that kind of money!
This is just an idea. I have gotten MANY positive responses from my voice
recordings and it has occured to me that maybe some of you Whitney-fans
would like to join in an online sing-along. If you want to record
yourself singing your fave Whitney song, using a microphone, your
'Sound Recorder' on Win95, and the RealAudio
Encoder available for free (or whatever else U can find). The
segments would have to be no longer than 40 seconds and only in
RealAudio. More details on this later, but you can start practicing.
You don't have to sound professional -- because no one will sound
like Whitney, but it would just be for fun.

Whitney Houston Explains It All
Whitney Houston says it was clumsiness that led to a
deep cut on her face and caused her to abruptly end
her Mediterranean yachting trip with husband Bobby
Brown. "I feel like a klutz," Houston told the New York
Daily News through her publicist, Lois Smith. You'll
recall that police on the island of Capri investigated the
incident after receiving conflicting stories as to how it
happened. Police initially said Houston told doctors on
the island that she cut her face swimming after falling
on some rocks, but a crew member said that the injury
occurred while the diva was still onboard the 120-foot
ship. On Tuesday, Houston's publicist said that the
accident actually did happen aboard the yacht. "They
were having lunch, and she slipped in the dining room,"
said Smith. "She thinks she cut herself on a dinner
plate that broke when she was trying to break her fall.
[Houston] said, 'It was a dumb thing.'" Smith said
Houston is now back at home with Brown, and she
dismisses reports hinting that Houston's trouble-prone
husband may have somehow caused the wound:
"Believe me, he wouldn't be there if he did."
In other Houston news, the songstress was a no-show
at Disneyland on Monday, where ABC previewed
Cinderella for the press. Houston not only produced the movie, but
co-stars, playing fairy godmother to Brandy's title character. She
finished up her role last week and immediately jetted off to take her
ill-fated cruise. (submitted by: Christina S.; taken from www.wallofsound.com)
Reportedly, the Classic Whitney concerts might be a great way to
launch the Greatest Hits and a new tour. As you know the greatest hits
is a double disc. We all know how the King of Pop's History is maybe
Whitney might do the same. Whitney is currently working to record new
material for the hits package. (submitted by: Gary B.)
Gary Brown has started his Whitney Webpage at http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Stage/8092
called "Queen of Pop Reigns Supreme". You, too, can make your
Ode to Whitney with the FREE Geocities webpage, or the webpage
that comes with your Internet Service Package (you are paying
forit whether or not U use it). Contact your Internet Service
Provider for details.

One Moment In Time: The
golden-voiced diva will be giving a special performance at the U.S.
Open tennis tournament on Monday, August 25. She will be performing
the song, "One Moment in Time," in tribute to former tennis great
Arthur Ashe, in whose name a new stadium will be dedicated on that
evening. She is slated to perform after the first tennis match of
the evening at approximately 8:30 p.m., but the time is subject
to change according to the duration of the match. The match and
Whitney's performacne will be televised on USA Network. I heard
the announcement on Charlie Rose's talk show on PBS. (submitted

FROM
THE STEP
BY STEP MAILING LIST:
- Whitney's "Preacher's Wife" has exceeded 3 million in US sales but the
RIAA certification will probably come only when "Classic Whitney" is released.
- Whitney will have an October 5 broadcast of "Classic Whitney" on HBO.
"Classic Whitney" will be a Greatest Hits compilation and will include 4
new songs, supposedly. Through the platinum club, you can get free tickets.
- On charts, "Preacher's Wife" is back up to #163 on the Top 200 Albums
in the US.
- Whitney will be singing a song, "There's Music In You" and the
Cinderella score is updated.
- A really clever girl named Diana set up a
chat room
for Whitney fans. Let's try to meet there Fridays at 4PM Eastern.
- Did you catch E! Entertainment? They had a program on celebrity
weddings and they had bits of Bobby and Whitney. Glad to see they are
focusing on Bobby and Whitney being husband and wife, instead of oppressor
or oppressed.
- As you know, Whitney has the rights to Dorothy Dandridge and that
Whitney should be making the film soon. Since Janet Jackson and Halle
Berry have plans to make cheaper versions of the movie. (HBO)
I just received my copy of the current issue of American Visions Magazine. They have a pic of my tattoo in their mag! And a little about my thousands of internet-Whitney-fan friends, too.... But there is one thing about this article I did not like.... This guy who has a Diana Ross website says QUOTE:
"Diana Ross is the ultimate superstar. She has more charisma in her little finger than Whitney has in her entire body." -- Donald Stevens

About 'Cinderella': On
the new TV show Vibe, Brandy and Whoopi appeared to talk about "Cinderella"
and had only good things to say about Whitney. She also said that
MY BOY Tyson Beckford was her babe and then he came out with a glass
slipper for her and I was like "I HAAAAAAAAAAAATE BRANDY!!!!!!"
The premiere of Vibe was yesterday. Brandy was their second guest,
and Chris Spencer asked how she felt working with huge names like
Whitney and Whoopi and she talked a little bit about Cinderella..said
she just finished the film, and it was a dream to work with her
idol. Then they showed some clips from the film that they said
was a Vibe exclusive...then Whoopi made a surprise appearance...

a small article in the August 8th issue of Entertainment Weekly

'Cinderella' Preview: Whitney was on Entertainment Tonight last night (7/31). The program was showcasing the upcoming "Cinderella" project with Brandy & Whitney. They previewed some of the songs and, of course, clips from the film. The highlight was a segment with Whitney singing her new song from the film. Gotta tell you, whatever is going on in her personal life (if anything at all), the Diva is the Ultimate Professional because her voice is in top shape...reminescent of the early 80's. You may want to watch Entertainment This Week, and they might recap the stories they covered this week. (submitted by: Devin M.)
