AN AMERICAN diva is hotly tipped to headline at the Sydney Mardi Gras party later this month, but the question on everyone's lips is which one - Whitney Houston or Kelly Rowland. Or both?
While the Mardi Gras organizers are refusing to comment on the speculation, Rowland has confirmed an appearance on her website yet Houston is also expected to take to the stage.
Houston was due to be touring the country and performing in Perth the week of Mardi Gras, the party for which takes place on March 6. But her promoter Andrew McManus has announced the cancellation of those tour dates citing "difficulties in securing rock 'n' roll air ride trucks to transport the touring sound and lighting equipment to Perth."
This has prompted excited gay gossip and a revival of rumors that Houston will come to Sydney.
The tour is Houston's first Australian tour since 1988 and marks a remarkable comeback for Houston, who was plagued by rumors of her party lifestyle during her marriage to estranged husband Bobby Brown.
Former Destiny's Child performer Rowland has advised fans that she will be in Sydney for Mardi Gras on March 6, but again promoters for Mardi Gras are refusing to confirm the talk.
Rowland says she will perform at the Gay Day Street Festival in Brisbane a day later.
Bringing excitement to feverish levels is talk that gay icon George Michael may also feature on the bill.
