The
Whitney Weekday Request Campaign
has been divided by the letters of the alphabet. For example, if
your last name begins with the letter "A," you can proceed
to the row for "A" and call or e-mail any 3-5 radio stations
in that section. The letters will change everyday. The goal is to
help ensure that each state gets votes everyday, without all of
us voting in huge blocks.
Here is Another Option For Anyone With E-mail that Includes a
Line For BCC. This method enables you to send a single message
to DJs across the country without revealing that other DJs are receiving
your message at the same time.
DO NOT do this if your e-mail software does not provide a line called
BCC!!!
Non-AOL users click here.
AOL users have to use this different
method instead.
Note: While the BCC method will be quite effective, it excludes
many radio stations that do not provide direct e-mail addresses.
Therefore, if you have five minutes, continue to check out the
complete request list, because there are many links there that
will take you to radio station web sites where you'll be able
to send your e-mail message easily. Thanks!

Copy Cut! Here's a bit from the Scottish Daily Record:
Naomi Has Her Whits About Her
Naomi Campbell has gone all sophisticated with a Whitney Houston-style
bobbed hairdo. The 30-year-old supermodel turned on the style for
a TV appearance in fashion-crazy Italy, home of her millionaire
boyfriend Flavio Briatore. She was clearly keen to impress her lover's
countrymen and observers were taken with her more grown-up image.
One said: "She is becoming more of a lady. Her Whitney look took
everyone by storm." |

Excerpt from Entertainment
Weekly article: The WB jumps on the reality TV bandwagon with
the premiere of ''Popstars'' (Jan. 12, 9 p.m.), which follows the
making of a Spice Girls like girl group. Though it may sound like
ABC's ''Making the Band'' (which tanked last fall but will return
in March), ''Popstars'' is actually an American version of a popular
Australian TV show which launched a No. 1 act there. The WB series
trails young female hopefuls from cattle call auditions to the pressure
packed formation of an as yet unnamed pop group... But for the first
episode auditions, the real deciding factor was vocal talent --
or lack thereof. Some of the a cappella singing is, to put it kindly,
not very accomplished. ''I regret having suggested the girls sing
Whitney Houston's 'And I Will Always Love You,''' says [producer
David] Foster. ''It's a brutal song that quickly exposed the real
non- talents who showed up.'' He should know; he produced Houston's
mega-selling original. (Thanks Joseph J.) |

Movie Update: According to Belgian magazine Télé Vision and
French magazine Ici Paris, the producer of Claude Lelouch's new
movie, "And Now... Ladies and Gentlemen," chose French singer Patricia
Kaas instead of Whitney to play the lead, and actor John Malkovich
instead of Dustin Hoffman. For background about the movie, read
the November 2000 Nippy News. (Thanks

On
the Charts: "Whitney: The Greatest Hits" remains
off the Billboard albums charts, but the DVD experiences an increase.
You can also check out Whitney's latest results from the magazine's
main international charts. Read the complete statistics...
From Army Archerd's Daily Variety column: Bobby Brown is
getting a new look -- Jheri'd hair, bad teeth -- for a cameo in
Screen Gems comedy "How to Make Your Man Behave." On the set Wednesday,
Brown laughingly told me, "It's a really good role -- I play Wendy
Raquel Robinson's not-so-bright boyfriend. It's a character piece."
No love scenes for Brown, who laughs, "I doubt they'd give me a
love scene." Wife Whitney Houston's in town
with him and he says, "We're staying strong" -- and they want a
fifth child. She's prepping more pix for her banner [BrownHouse].
Bobby's also winding a combination CD-DVD in which every song will
have a video, he sez. Co-starring in "How to Make Your Man Behave"
are Vivica A. Fox, Mo'nique, Tamala Jones, Morris Chestnut, Anthony
Anderson and Gabrielle Union. Mark Brown scripted and directs for
producers Doug McHenry and Puddy Cullen.
Excerpt from Miami New Times: Trinidadian-born R&B singer Trini…
almost blushes as she reveals she is a poet, though she is quick
to point out that her literary endeavors would be better suited
for a Whitney Houston ballad than for the type of songs she sings
herself. Houston tops the list of women whom Trini admires in the
business. Earning Houston's praise has been one of the newcomer's
biggest accomplishments so far. After the Bayside gig, Trini landed
her current job, fronting a Caribbean-influenced R&B band at Monty's
in Coconut Grove. The first time she spotted the superstar dining
with her husband, Bobby Brown, and their daughter, Trini stared
but did not approach her. When she finally did meet Houston a few
months later, she was headed down the narrow hallway to the ladies'
room. An odd-looking woman passed her, wearing an fluffy wig, huge
dark glasses, and a scarf wrapped around her head and neck, revealing
only her lips. "You did good," the disguised personality remarked
as she walked by. Trini replied with a polite thank you, wondering
whether the weird woman had taken a good look at herself in the
mirror lately. Not until she returned to the stage and heard the
restaurant buzzing did she learn the identity of her camouflaged
idol.
Fans in Spain: There's a small article in the Spanish magazine "Diez
minutos" about Whitney's surprise appearance at WKTU's "Miracle
on 34th Street." It includes a picture of Whitney introducing Michael
Jackson. (Thanks MaJosé) |

It appears the "Whitney: The Greatest Hits" DVD with two extra tracks
should now be in all stores. Here is the text of an e-mail I received
from Whitney's product manager: "Arista made a running change early
after the release and added the two tracks - so there are two different
versions in the marketplace. One with fewer tracks is of lower stock."
That said, be sure to look for the 23-track DVD as many stores still
sell the shorter version. (Thanks Scott B.)
Brief "Friends and Lovers" Project Update: According to The
Hollywood Reporter, the project is still in development, produced
by George Tillman and partner Robert Teitel along with Whitney and
Debra Martin Chase for BrownHouse Productions. Here's
more about the project development from an article in Black
Issues Book Review last year, and the original
article from the July 1998 Nippy News.

BET's Top 100 of 2000 countdown played Whitney's "Fine" music video
as a bonus and stated that it was the year's best

Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" was ranked at No. 13 on "The

be the best singer in the world. (Thanks Isaac) |

Arista
has formed an online Arista Army
for its various artists, including Whitney. Fans who join will be
included on a mailing list to receive Whitney information including
news, pictures, banner ads and contests. The fans are then encouraged
to spread the Whitney news at appropriate places, such as Whitney
sites, music sites, bulletin boards and chat rooms (of course, without
resorting to spam.) For more information about the "Army"

Major U.K. Poll: Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" came
in at No. 33 on U.K. Channel 4's 100 Greatest U.K. Number One Singles
survey, which aired tonight. More than 100,000 people voted in the
survey, which was compiled from the TV station's web site and two
national newspapers. Voters were given a choice of 105 number one
hits since the charts began in the 1950s through hits from last
year. A panel of music experts prepared the shortlist after going
through more than 800 number one singles. (Thanks David M.)

Clarification:
Arista apparently issued two versions of the "Whitney: The Greatest
Hits" DVD in the U.S. last May. The more common DVD with 21 tracks,
and the DVD with two extra tracks ["Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" and "I
Believe In You And Me"] both were available back then, but no one
really noticed. However, the longer DVD is not available in all
stores. Best Buy is one of the few stores that sells it. (Thanks
Steve) Meanwhile, the longer DVD has surfaced in Europe (BMG
74321 306039). It has the same two extra tracks. (Thanks Eddy
VB)
According to Radio 1, "Whitney: The Greatest Hits" has not sold
over 1 million copies in the U.K. as of Christmas, but should reach
that milestone within the next month. Only the Top 6 best-selling
albums of the year in the U.K. have sold over 1 million copies,
but there are only 105,000 copies between Madonna at No. 10 and
Texas at No. 7. As we know, Whitney is at No. 9 on the 2000 best-seller
list and the album still has momentum, so it won't be long. (Thanks
Paul S.)
