The
Whitney Weekday Request Campaign
has been divided by the letters of the alphabet. For example, if
your last name begins with the letter "A," you can proceed
to the row for "A" and call or e-mail any 3-5 radio stations
in that section. The letters will change everyday. The goal is to
help ensure that each state gets votes everyday, without all of
us voting in huge blocks.
Here is Another Option For Anyone With E-mail that Includes a
Line For BCC. This method enables you to send a single message
to DJs across the country without revealing that other DJs are receiving
your message at the same time.
DO NOT do this if your e-mail software does not provide a line called
BCC!!!
Non-AOL users click here.
AOL users have to use this different
method instead.
Note: While the BCC method will be quite effective, it excludes
many radio stations that do not provide direct e-mail addresses.
Therefore, if you have five minutes, continue to check out the
complete request list, because there are many links there that
will take you to radio station web sites where you'll be able
to send your e-mail message easily. Thanks!

the 12" MCA Records song "Stop the Madness," a multi-artist
anti-drug song which was recorded in circa 1986 [catalogue number:MCA-23614].
Besides Whitney, other participants on the song included Ralph Tresvant,
Andre and Sandra Crouch and LaToya Jackson. (Thank you very much
Okuno)

For the fans who missed it, you can check out selected clips from
MSNBC's "Headliners and Legends with Matt Lauer" documentary
about Whitney here. The documentary,
in general, was balanced and had some particularly interesting tidbits
about Whitney's early years as she prepared for her career and worked
on her first two albums.
From Rolling Stone Online: Although CARLOS SANTANA will take
an eight-month hiatus from recording and touring beginning in mid-October,
the guitarist has already begun planning his collaborations for
the follow-up to this year's Grammy sensation "Supernatural." Santana
says that STING and PRINCE have "shown interest," and that he'd
like to work with more women -- "hopefully Aretha [Franklin], Whitney
[Houston] and Patti Labelle." (Thanks Javier, David M.)
The destruction of a classic duet? According to Launch.com,
Jive Records recording artist Don Philip said he is working on putting
together a duet with Christina Aguilera--a remake of the classic
1986 Whitney Houston and Jermaine Jackson duet "If You Say My Eyes
Are Beautiful." "I want to be like Mariah [Carey]," says Philip.
"You know how for a few years Mariah was the person everyone did
duets with? So I'm trying to put together this next duet together
with this certain girl who is a 'genie in a bottle'--Christina Aguilera--and
we're talking to her people and we're trying to remake the song
'If You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful' by Whitney Houston and Jermaine
Jackson." Philip adds that he hopes their cover of the track is
different from the original version, which most recently appeared
on Houston's greatest-hits package this spring. "I always say, 'If
you're going to remake a song, you ought to do it better or different,'
and I think I can take Jermaine," Philip says. "And I don't know,
but I think Christina can take Whitney right now, so I think it
will be a great duet. So, we're trying to put that together and
hopefully put it on this really huge soundtrack that's coming out."
(Thanks Mkin)

MSNBC
aired its one-hour documentary about Whitney on "Headliners
and Legends with Matt Lauer" today. Excluding commercials,
it ran for about 44 minutes and featured some rare video footage
of Whitney from early in her career, including part of her appearance
on "As The World Turns" (circa 1984) and an appearance
on "The Merv Griffen Show" after her first album was released.
The documentary was well-done except for the inclusion of someone
from People Magazine, whose only role in the program was to repeat
tabloid stories. There was also a factual error stating that Whitney's
"I'm Your Baby Tonight" album had one No. 1 hit with the
title track, when actually "All The Man That I Need" was
also a No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. The show will be repeated
on Friday, August 11th at 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. I will post some material
from the show either tomorrow or this weekend for fans who were
not able to see it.

Cast" debuts on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart,

From Platinum Club: Whitney has been nominated in the "MTV Video
Music Awards All-time Favorites Poll" under the category "Most Memorable
Moment." The memorable moment was the first appearance she made
with Mariah Carey at the MTV Music Awards in 1998. You can vote

Here are two more Japanese print advertisements featuring Whitney!
The first is a 1989 Sanyo ad (version

Baltimore's 92Q FM radio station honored Whitney on her birthday
yesterday. Every night, the station has a "12play" for the top three
slowjam requests of the evening. To honor Whitney, the host asked
for everyone to call and request their favorite Whitney songs. The
host seems to be a big Whitney fan and everyone that called in showed
their love for Whitney! Here are the results:
1. All The Man That I Need
2. You Give Good Love
3. Why Does It Hurt So Bad (Thanks Lenny) |

TV Reminder! MSNBC will air a Whitney documentary on "Headliners
and Legends with Matt Lauer" tomorrow, August 10, 2000 at 10:00
p.m. EST. The show will be repeated on Friday, August 11th at 1
a.m. and 4 a.m. The show usually compiles old video footage.
Launch.com has a
page marking Whitney's birthday today. It mentions the recent
rumors very briefly, but at least without cruel intentions or a
bad attitude. (Thanks Rachel)
Here are two rare pictures! The first is from a 1989 Japanese Sanyo
advertisement (version 1
and version 2), and the
second is the cover for the
U.K. 12" vinyl of "Sweetest Sweetest." Whitney
contributed background vocals to the
song, which appeared on Jermaine Jackson's album entitled "Dynamite."

very low on all of its special countdowns, please vote! (Thanks

From The Hollywood Reporter: Ending months of negotiations,
former Arista head Clive Davis and BMG Entertainment have agreed
on terms for Davis' new label, sources said Monday. The $180 million
joint venture, expected to be announced next week, calls for the
creation of Davis Entertainment, which will be the holding company
for a still-unnamed label (HR 6/7). Insiders said Davis, 67, will
hold a 50% equity stake in the company. As expected, no multiplatinum
artists will be leaving Arista to join Davis' venture. Whitney Houston,
whom Davis discovered and signed in 1984 when she was 19, joins
Santana in remaining on Arista's roster under Antonio "LA" Reid's
leadership. Davis spearheaded Carlos Santana's career comeback album
"Supernatural," which walked away with nine Grammy Awards this year.
Arista acts set to join Davis include gold and platinum artists
Angie Stone, Deborah Cox, Next, LFO and Shannon Curfman. Sources
said Davis will develop new talent. "Discussions are ongoing and
there should be an announcement shortly. No comment beyond that,"
a BMG spokesman said of the planned joint venture. Davis was unavailable
for comment.

From Yahoo! News: Singer Hoku, daughter of Don Ho, recently shared
with LAUNCH that one of her biggest musical influences is veteran
performer Whitney Houston. When she was only 11, the now-teenage
Hoku would belt Houston songs when given the chance to perform at
her father's nightclub shows in Hawaii. "I listen to a lot of Whitney
Houston just because of that first song that she had," said Hoku.
"I was really close to that song. I did it for like a year or two
years. I just have a great respect for someone that can be around
for that long based on talent--mainly just an amazing, beautiful,
big voice. You know what I mean? I just love that. I've just always
been into Whitney for that."

WGCI 107.5 FM in
Chicago repeated the Star Magazine report regarding Bobbi Kristina
today. The station can be e-mailed at feedback@wgci.com
if you would like to inform them that the story is actually from
the tabloid. Many U.S. radio stations have been repeating the story
because the European press mistook it as a report from a legitimate
U.S. newspaper, when it is actually nothing more that tabloid trash
from Star Magazine. Take care to be polite, because it is possible
they were not deliberately trying to be hurtful. (Thanks Lillian)

Yesterday MTV Asia

entertainment show "Exclusiv" repeated the false Star magazine story.
The only way to contact them is via their guestbook here.

German music channel VIVA also repeated the story. German-speaking
fans can write to them at interaktiv@viva-tv.de.
They told the story as if it was a fact. The channel also repeated
the story again in their entertainment show "World of Bits". Their

German news show "Punkt 12" repeated the story regarding Bobbi Kristina.
Fans can contact them in German here.

Also, let's not forget the always predictable Dotmusic, which repeated
this tabloid story, and also mentioned the false Atlantic City story
again. They can be e-mailed at Astrickland@unitedbusinessmedia.com
with CC: to news@dotmusic.com and editor@dotmusic.com. (Thanks
Shaun)
The Belgian newsletter "la dernière heure" wrote an article about
Bobby's release and repeated the false Atlantic City story. I don't
think that they know that the story is false because they supported
Whitney's 1999 concerts in Belgium with great articles. On the BBC
text, I read the story regarding Bobbi Kristina. (Thanks Marie-Eve)
The story regarding Bobbi Kristina was reported on Miami's Power
96 morning show by syndicated gossip monger Flo Anthony, who
we all know was one of the reporters who published a false diet
pill story about Whitney in the New York Post in 1993. They should
be made aware that their radio station is repeating tabloid stories,
and not a legitimate news item. (Thanks CJ)
The web site for Belgium's Radio

From Billboard's "The Rhythm and Blues" section: Slated for release
Oct. 24 … is the debut of Sunday, a five-girl vocal group from New
Jersey co-managed by Robyn Crawford and Whitney Houston through
Angelway Artists. The fivesome's first single, "I Know'' -
produced by Warryn Campbell for Better Place Records in association
with Capitol - arrives in September. (Thanks Ralph M.) |

Platinum! According to Whitney's
official German site, the Greatest Hits has achieved Platinum
status for more than 300,000 units in Germany. The site says Whitney's
next single in Germany, "Could I Have This Kiss Forever," will be
released on September 4th.
More False Reports: BET's web
site has repeated a false story that was originally published in
the U.S. tabloid Star Magazine. The story is a fabrication involving
Bobbi Kristina. The U.K. press picked up the story in recent days,
quoting the Star as if it were a legitimate newspaper. In turn,
the story bounced back to the U.S. and is now being repeated here
by BET and other media organizations who don't know that it originated
with Star Magazine. Members of the U.S. media have quoted it as
a legitmate story since the U.K. press repeated it. The story has
also spread elsewhere in Europe and the U.S.
BET needs to be informed that the story is from Star Magazine and
it is nothing more than tabloid trash. The network can be e-mailed
at contactus@bet.com
and CC: can be directed to BET-TV_Comments@BET.com and content@bet.com.
This should not go without an answer, or more false stories will
continue to spread in this fashion.
The story was also repeated today by WBLS
107.5 FM in New York, which quoted BET. However, the hosts expressed
doubts about the stories and said they wish Whitney and Bobby well.
We should just write them short notes to praise them for their support
of Whitney [they play her music very often] and inform them that
the story they quoted from BET originated from Star Magazine. Host
Doug Banks can be e-mailed at doug@wbls.com.
Banks in particular has been supportive of Whitney at various times.
(Thanks Alan M.)
