The
Whitney Weekday Request Campaign
has been divided by the letters of the alphabet. For example, if
your last name begins with the letter "A," you can proceed
to the row for "A" and call or e-mail any 3-5 radio stations
in that section. The letters will change everyday. The goal is to
help ensure that each state gets votes everyday, without all of
us voting in huge blocks.
Here is Another Option For Anyone With E-mail that Includes a
Line For BCC. This method enables you to send a single message
to DJs across the country without revealing that other DJs are receiving
your message at the same time.
DO NOT do this if your e-mail software does not provide a line called
BCC!!!
Non-AOL users click here.
AOL users have to use this different
method instead.
Note: While the BCC method will be quite effective, it excludes
many radio stations that do not provide direct e-mail addresses.
Therefore, if you have five minutes, continue to check out the
complete request list, because there are many links there that
will take you to radio station web sites where you'll be able
to send your e-mail message easily. Thanks!

"Whitney: The Greatest Hits" makes its official debut
in the U.K. and other locations in Europe today!
Whitney's new album debuted at No. 8 on the Australian Albums
Chart this week! Compared to the "My Love Is Your Love" peak of
No. 42, this is great news! (Thanks Wes)
Woolworths (a big U.K. store) predicts Whitney will debut
at No. 2 this week, behind Britney Spears, who also released her
album this week. I think we'll see Whitney at No. 1 when they
get around to releasing the George Michael duet! (Thanks Craig)
The U.K.'s Mail on Sunday newspaper had 5 small advertisements
and a full page ad for the new album, video and DVD this weekend.
Along with the ads was a review of the new album giving it 3 out
of 5. (Thanks Simon)
The Greatest Hits CD has been released in Germany, but the
video and DVD won't be in stores before May 22nd. That's also
the date when Media Markt might have the U.S. version of the CD.
Media Markt has done great promotions for the album and has put
it on top of almost every shelf in the whole store in Munich as
MTV-Select Tip of the month. They also feature an article about
it in the free Media Markt magazine. (Thanks Michaela)
As expected, just in time for the release of the Greatest Hits,
BMG Germany started its official Whitney
Houston Homepage. There's a lot of information, a biography,
music, videos and fans can even win one of 5 signed special "Greatest
Hits Singles Boxes" that are very limited. (Thanks Dominik,
Daniel, Sylvie, Andre S., Nadine)
"Whitney: The Greatest Hits" has finally been released and it
is going to be HUGE! I went to France's FNAC today and they had
hundreds of it everywhere in the store, especially at the front
door. (This isn't usually where they put CDs.) You couldn't miss
it! They have both the European and the U.S. version. The U.S.
version is slim and the European version is in a box.
In addition, the MLIYL album is still in the FNAC Top 20 Albums
at No. 13 after so many months! The single ILFTB is also doing
well since it's at No. 5 on the FNAC's Top 100 Singles and is
up to No. 53 from No. 60 on the Top 100 French Singles chart after
3 weeks. (Thanks Julian S.)
"Whitney: The Greatest Hits" was released May 13th in Japan. It
had been advertised for release on May 15th but Japan usually
releases import albums days earlier. When I entered the record
store, Sam Goody's, there was absolutely no advertisement of any
kind. At that point I had given up hope that it would be there.
Then I saw Britney Spears' CD. A second later I spotted Whitney's
CD. There were two versions, a Japanese version and an American
one. However, they list the exact same tracks. To make a long
story short, even though there was ONLY 1 small poster in Sam
Goody's advertising the Greatest Hits, the locals were buying
the CD in mass quantities. I picked up one copy and decided to
go back for another. I was in the store for less than an hour
and I saw at least 15 copies of Whitney's CD being purchased.
I saw ONE purchase of "Oops!......I Did It Again." If Whitney
doesn't debut higher than Britney is the U.S. I know she will
in Japan! (Thanks Reniko)
"Whitney: The Greatest Hits" is sponsoring the most
watched program in Spain, "Big Brother" (Gran Hermano),
so millions of people in my country are going to see the TV advertisement
of the album. (Thanks Laura)
Whitney is featured on a CD called Totally Hits 2.It has been
advertised for a few weeks now. The remix for MLIYL is included.
Whitney's HH song was also on the first Totally Hits CD.
Additionally, BET has been advertising a video for "It's Black
Entertainment," the documemtary which features Whitney, and mentions
that it is now available at Blockbuster as of May 2. A clip of
Whitney is also shown in the ad. (Thanks Carolyn)
Some Whitney poster sightings: On the Cosby show, Whitney
posters can be seen in Vanessa's room, on "The Parenthood"
there is one behind Michael's bedroom door, on "Sister Sister"
there is one on the wall of their bedroom and on "Moesha"
there is one behind her door as well. This is also one behind
the man who plays the keyboards on BET's "Live From L.A."
Whitney has also been mentioned a number of times on reruns of
"The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air." (Thanks Carolyn)

Excerpts from the four new Greatest Hits songs, material from the
upcoming DVD, and even Whitney's European 2 1/2 minute promo for
the Greatest Hits Package can be found at the
BMG Canada web site! In addition, the four new songs can be
heard in full from the BMG
Singapore site. (Thank you Eddy VB)
Circuit City stores plan to sell "Whitney: The Greatest Hits"
CD for $18.99, including a free bonus disc with two unreleased tracks.
It is uncertain right now if the unreleased tracks are by Whitney
or not. The Greatest Hits will also be on sale at Target stores
for $18.88. You can also buy the Arista 25th Anniversary limited
edition disc for $7.99 exclusively at Target. (Thanks Alan M.,
Elkin)
Whitney's contribution to the Arista 25th Anniversary limited edition
CD at Target is the Club 69 Mix of "It's Not Right But It's Okay."
I had hoped that they would have included something from her performance
on the special, but I guess they're saving that for the video release.
Other tracks featured on the CD are Santana's "Maria Maria" (Spanglish
Version), Annie Lennox' "Why," Sarah McLachlan's "Adia" (live) and
Aretha Franklin's "A Rose is Still a Rose" remix. Tracks for Deborah
Cox' "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here," LFO's "Summer Girls" and Westlife
were taken from the Arista special. (Thanks Reed)
Whitney and George Michael have entered the official Danish
airplay chart, debuting at No. 5. The single is getting heavy airplay
on Danish radio stations. The Greatest Hits album will be released
here tomorrow and it seems it will do very well. It has received
a lot of publicity. (Thanks Stig)
All this weekend, the largest pop station in Washington, D.C.,
Z104, have had a
Whitney Winning Weekend where they have been giving away free copies
of the Greatest Hits. They've also hyped it by saying that it includes
all of her hits including a duet with Enrique Iglesias.
This morning, I heard about the Greatest Hits on the Rick Dees'
syndicated Weekly Top 40 news. He mentioned that it has 36 great
tracks including the duet with Enrique, and then played about a
minute of it. Arista seems to be using Enrique as hype at the Pop
stations. Dees also talked about the Arista 25th Anniversary special
on Monday. (Thanks Lopez) |

This is a large Greatest
Hits ad that was included in a German shopping guide. They
describe Whitney as the most succesful female singer of all time.
(Thank you André)
An advertisement for Whitney is currently running on Radio City
FM in Britain: The Greatest Hits is playing. The BIG chorus for
"I Will Always Love You" begins and then a man's voice
comes over the top and says, "What's your favorite Whitney record?"
and then it goes off the air. I thought it was really original.
(Thanks James)
The Greatest Hits, released in Spain, is the album of the week
at Spanish radio station "Cadena
100." They're having a competition to win the album. "Los
40 Principales" is also playing all the the Greatest Hits
songs again and again. IITYT is on heavy rotation on both radio
stations. (Thanks Laura, Ruben)
Whitney's Greatest Hits CD was released in Singapore on May 11
in time for the weekend crowd. I visited about seven stores and
every one of them has a big, well-decorated display to promote
Whitney's CD. Her songs are in heavy rotation in these stores
and Tower Records has her on the front page of their monthly newsletter.
It seems like lots of retail shops are playing the CD too. And
guess what -- a supermarket I visited played and repeated the
"Throw Down" CD. It looks like she is getting a strong start for
her CD here in Singapore! (Thanks Gary)

Billboard
publishes additional information about the Greatest Hits
DVD and interactive Whitney!
From Billboard's Rhythm Section -- SCRIPTS AND CASTING: With
an illustrious 15-year career for Arista, six Grammy wins this year
alone, and over 70 million albums sold in the U.S., Whitney Houston
keeps moving onward and upward. Houston's latest single, "Same Script,
Different Cast," is a duet with labelmate Deborah Cox. "Same Script"
is the Greatest Gainer/Airplay on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks
(48-28), fed by spins from WGCI Chicago, KBXX Houston, WPGC Washington,
D.C., and most of our radio panel. This is the lead track
for Houston's much-anticipated "Whitney-The Greatest Hits," which
will be released May 16 on CD and cassette. The double-album comprises
36 songs, including new duets with Enrique Iglesias, George Michael,
and Q-Tip, as well as Cox. Already released is a vinyl boxed set
containing select remixes.
Entertainment Tonight
will air a segment about Whitney and Bobby on Monday, May 15th.
In the preview, they showed short clips of the two mugging and singing
for the cameras at Whitney's Greatest Hits photo shoot. It appears
that they will be showing additional behind-the-scenes footage from
the DVD.

"Whitney: The Greatest Hits" and "Same Script Different

The U.K.'s New Musical Express magazine has a schizophrenic
review of the Greatest Hits. It has a surprise ending, so be
sure to read the entire article.
Roger Friedman at Fox News Online
reviews the upcoming Arista Anniversary special. According to
the article, Whitney's medley will air in the last half hour of
the show. He mentions seeing 5 of the 6 songs Whitney performed
that night!

The publicity department at BMG now informs us that Whitney & George's
IITYT single is due for release in the U.K. on June 5th. The Greatest
Hits video will be available in the U.K. starting May 15th, followed
by the DVD starting May 22nd. (Thanks David)
"If I Told You That," the Whitney & George Michael duet, is now
on playlist-A from Radio1 (BBC). This means the song will get 30
plays per week. (Thanks Eddy VB)
"Whitney Mania" has definitely started today in Belgium. Whitney's
hits are playing over and over on the radio. I visited four shops
this afternoon and all were playing the Greatest Hits album already.
An employee told me that the album was just released and that he
already sold 30 copies within an hour! At the moment, only the European
version is available. It contains 35 (not 36) tracks including 16
No. 1 hits and the now familiar four new songs. Unfortunately, it
doesn't contain the "Star Spangled Banner." So I guess we will have
to buy the U.S. and U.K. versions to complete our collections. The
DVD and videotape will arrive shortly in the shops. (Thanks Eddy
VB)
Whitney's Greatest Hits album was released in the Netherlands today!
MediaMarkt is selling the set for only 40 guilders (US$17). In other
stores, the price is at least US$25. CDs are always very expensive
in Holland, but this price is low for such a great CD. The pictures
in the booklet look great too! (Thanks Bas)
95.8 Capital FM

They are giving away the Greatest Hits album and other prizes, including
a limited edition CD. All U.K. listeners should tune in! (Thanks

Yesterday, "If I Told You That" debuted on radio station Jovem
Pan in Brazil. (Thanks Fernanda)
From Florida's Sun-Sentinel newpaper regarding Bobby's arrest earlier
this week: "Bobby and Whitney were incredibly cooperative," said
Houston's publicist, Nancy Seltzer. "Bobby even waited eight hours
for a plane to Florida by himself." …"Whitney is at home in Newark
with her daughter and supports Bobby," Seltzer said. |

More Greatest
Hits CD Information: The double CD set is structured to appear
like a single CD -- it has a normal sized box. One CD is blue
and the other is red. There are about 17 pages (front and back)
in the CD booklet, which includes new pictures. The first four
pages contain a biography with praises from Missy Elliot, Mya,
etc., song credits and thank you's from Whitney.
The last few sentences of the bio are of Clive Davis saying: "Certainly,
over the last thirty years, there's Aretha Franklin, there's Barbra
Streisand, and there's Whitney. I think she ranks right up there
with those all-time greats. There's no one who can typecast her
and put her into any rigid formula. The world is really her oyster
because her talent clearly shows that she can do anything." (Thank
you Kyana, Joe O.)

site based in Australia.
Whitney's new album was has been released in Australia a week
earlier than everywhere else. There are some great photos in the
booklet including another photo of Whitney on the step ladder
in the platinum room. The album is A$10 (US$17) -- more than a
usual CD but it's clearly worth it. All Aussies go out now and
buy it! Promotion is in full swing with print ads, posters, lifesize
cardboard stands and television ads! (Thanks Anton, Wes)
On the Charts: Whitney's duet
with Deborah Cox takes another leap up the R&B charts after
just two weeks of airplay, without a single or music video! It
also debuts on the Hot 100 Bubbling Under chart! Read the complete
statistics...
From Fred Bronson's Billboard Chart Beat column --
HOUSTON, WE DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM: Every Whitney Houston song to
appear on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart has reached
the top 40, and her latest is no exception. "Same Script, Different
Cast" (Arista), her team-up with Deborah Cox, jumps 20 notches
to land at No. 28. It's Houston's 35th R&B top 40 hit.
Here is a review of
the Greatest Hits from the current issue of Heat Magazine
in the U.K. Warning: The reviewer apparently is the type
of music critic who automatically dismisses ballads, and he says
something very odd about "I'm Every Woman," among other
things.
Exclusif (France's version of Entertainment Tonight) reported
about the Greatest Hits DVD. The show aired excerpts of Whitney
talking about her mother and IWALY. In addition, the commercial
for the Greatest Hits is on France 2. The duet with George Michael
is still being played on Belgium's Radio
Contact, but not very much. (Thanks Marie-Eve)
Fans in Germany can get the US version of "Whitney: The Greatest

Bobby Brown was arrested at Newark International Airport in N.J.
yesterday while returning to the U.S. from a trip to the Bahamas
with Whitney. The arrest stems from an outstanding warrant issued
a year ago for a probation violation due to a car accident in
1996. Bobby was transported to Florida and is due in Broward County

usually not followed up with extradition between states, especially
a year after the warrant is issued. (Thanks Robert, CJ, Nikki,

Today
I received my copy of "Whitney: The Greatest Hits." I
ordered it from the 800 number that was on TV. It came with a poster
that is so beautiful. The picture is on page
15(!) inside the CD booklet. Right before her thank you's
Whitney writes:
"I can't believe it's time for a Greatest
Hits. This is a culmination of all the years we have spent together,
and this is my way of thanking all of you for your support. I have
some incredible memories from these times -- I remember the early
days in the clubs with Jellybean and Clivilles & Cole doing remixes.
I remember singing my songs all over the world -- I remember the
response when audiences first heard "I Will Always Love You," and
how special "Greatest Love Of All " will always be to me - I remember
it all! I have picked some of my favorite recordings for this collection
-- we've added some killer remixes, and some new songs as well.
I am very proud of the finished product, so sit back, relax, and
take a trip down memory lane with me. Peace........
(Thank you Kyana)
Whitney did not win any of the Blockbuster Awards for which she
was nominated, and she did not attend the show.
Deborah Cox mentions "Same Script Different Cast" at her
official
site in a letter to her fans: "Thank you for your comments
about the duet. It's doing really well at radio because of all your
requests! We are doing the video in a couple weeks. I'll keep you
posted." (Thanks CJ)

in the U.S. There is a commercial airing on the Lifetime Network,
just about every night between 10:00-12:00 p.m. central standard
time. I've seen the commercial several times. In addition, if
you place your order through the television ad you will receive
a free limited edition Whitney poster. It's the same shot they
use on the Greatest Hits album. (Thanks David)
"Kiss92" - the most popular radio station in Toronto, Canada -
has added CIHTKF to its playlist. The song has also won the station's
"8 O'Clock
Showdown" for three consecutive nights in a row. A second
Toronto station - EnergyRadio
(where the song MLIYL was No. 1 for 6 consecutive weeks) has also
added CIHTKF to its regular rotation.
NOTE: Canada's music quota system called CANCON, does not
inhibit R&B from getting played on Canadian radio. In major citites
such as Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver R&B and Hip/Hop does get
airplay - but on Top 40 stations only. Radio stations will never
change their music if the listeners don't request it. A perfect
example was Whitney's single MLIYL. Because of the reggae-flavored
track, no station in Toronto would play it. Finally, ONE station
(EnergyRadio) tested the song. It went on to become No. 1 at the
station for 6 weeks. In turn, two other Toronto radio stations
then decided to add MLIYL to their playlists as well. The point
is, our few requests on a daily basis CAN change things! (Thanks
Mark F.)
Whitney and George are doing very well in Denmark. They debuted
this week at No. 8 on the airplay chart on "The Voice." (Thanks

Here's
Whitney on the cover of BET Weekend, a free magazine insert
that comes with some U.S. newspapers across the country. The article
focuses on the Greatest Hits project. It also gives readers a brief
history of Whitney's career. There's even a comment from Cissy Houston
about her daughter's recent public tribulations. Whitney's mom said,
"It's not easy. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. It's difficult
for a mother as visible as I am. With God, I've learned to handle
most things. They build you up to tear you down. You really have
to hold on to God. That's the only thing that gets me through and
the only thing that will get her through." (Thank you Mike)
U.K. Chart News Update...

In the May 12th issue of Entertainment
Weekly, there is a brief story about Clive Davis leaving Arista.
The story states that Clive is expected to launch a new label in
September. In the music section of the magazine, there is also a
brief item about new music set to be released on May 16. They mention
Whitney's Greatest Hits project and give details of the contents
as well. (Thanks John G.)
Whitney's duet with George Michael debuted in the Top 20 Radio Charts

at No. 18 this week! They play it a lot! (Thanks Sylvie)
Dublins' 98FM is having a Whitney weekend. They are playing Whitney
songs from old to new. They are also giving the chance to win the
best of Whitney on CD! (Thanks Gill)
This afternoon, on Magic100 (100.3FM) here in Ottawa, Canada, they
played "I Will Always Love You." I was soooooo excited. After it
ended the DJ said, "Ah, yes, this song by Whitney Houston, spent
2 months at No. 1 in 1992. It is sure to be part of her Greatest
Hits package due out on May 16." She then gave all the information
about the song listings, and then she went through the new tracks,
naming them and saying they were going to be great! Finally someone
is talking about it in Canada. But, of course, they can't play any
of these like everywhere else in the world. Such is the life of
a Whitney fanatic living in Canada. (Thanks Enrico)
Note: Canada has a quota system that requires music by Canadian
artists must be played. The quota system, perhaps inadvertently,
discourages airplay for R&B music. |

Entertainment Tonight
showed a preview of Whitney's Greatest Hits DVD today. Click
here to see the RealVideo! There's an interesting story about
Whitney's performance on "The Merv Griffen Show." It turns
out that the band in the background was playing at the wrong pace,
so Whitney's mother, Cissy, went behind the curtain and directed
the band while Whitney made her national TV debut! You can see it
in the video clip.
ET had one factual error -- they say a concert clip from the MLIYL
tour is from the HBO South Africa concert when it is obviously not.
On the Charts: "Same Script
Different Cast" arrives as the Hot Shot Debut on the R&B
Singles chart and makes the top debut on the R&B Airplay chart by
23 spots! The next highest airplay debut entered at No. 63! Plus
there's great news about "If I Told You That" in Europe,
and news from France! Read the complete statistics...
In this month's Sister 2 Sister Magazine, Whitney and Bobby are
pictured at the Playboy Mansion for Dalvin's [of Jodeci] listening
party. There is also an article entitled: "A Teeny-weeny birthday
with Bobbi Kris, Whitney, and Bobby Brown." It shows pictures of
her party and has a nice article. (Thanks Rita)
Last Saturday, Whitney and George Michael's duet debuted on German
radio stations. The two biggest stations in Bavaria and even in
the whole republic, Antenne Bayern and Bayern 3 have put the song
on heavy rotation. All the DJs are fascinated by this song. (Thanks

Here's a far shot picture
of Whitney's Greatest Hits from Arista's site. It shows Whitney
has more platinum records to install.
Today I got a promo 4-page flyer of Whitney's upcoming Greatest
Hits in a CD store. It showed two pictures and the complete setlist
and some comments about the four new songs. An employee at the
store told me the CD will be out in Holland on May 19, while another
store (Van leest) told me that it will be the 12th according to
their computer.
Separately, a program on Veronica is showing a compilation of
Whitney's biggest hits. Last week they showed the older ones and
next week they will show more recent video cuts. Last week they
showed a cut of Whitney singing SAMLFY when she was in the studio
playbacking the song. (Thanks Dave)
Mary J. Blige Speaks of Whitney: "I respect Whitney because
every little girl wants to be that. Whitney is someone that has
stayed who she is. She's done her movies, in spite of whoever
said what. 'Oh, she's doing this, she's selling out and blah,
blah, blah.' She stayed Whitney, and I appreciate that. (Thanks
Alan M.)

Report from Spain: Los
40 Principales, the largest radio station in the country, is
reporting that Whitney will perform with Enrique Iglesias at the
Sixth Annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards. Enrique has been
confirmed as a performer on the show, but there has been no word

we know, Whitney garnered the most Blockbuster award nominations
this year, but there have been no official reports that she will
even attend. If anyone has additional information about this, please
