Latest
Details about Whitney's Greatest Hits! The tracklisting
has been revised and now matches the list provided by Amazon.de
(the German version of Amazon.com) that was reported a week ago.
There are a couple of additional details about the concept of each
CD as well. Click here to see the
identical German tracklisting from last week to get a better idea
of the difference between the original tracklisting and the new
one.
Additional retail pricing information about the upcoming
Arista 25th Anniversary releases: Net proceeds from the event
will benefit the American Foundation for AIDS Research, City of
Hope, and the T.J. Martell Foundation for Leukemia, Cancer, and
AIDS Research. Additional monies for the charities will be raised
by the release of an eight-song sampler made for Target, which will
arrive in stores the weekend before the special's May 15 airdate.
At least 50% of the sampler, which will retail for $7.99, will be
composed of live songs from the taping, while the other tracks will
be studio cuts from the evening's participating artists. Additionally,
Arista will release a DVD and VHS on June 6 of the NBC special,
with additional footage on each format. The DVD will retail for
$24.98 and the VHS for $19.98. Arista executive VP/GM Charles Goldstuck
says the label hopes to raise $750,000 for the designated charities.
Here is an article about the
future of Clive Davis, and an interesting quote from LaFace's L.A.
Reid...
Arista begins to distribute new promotional posters: It's a
double-sided poster about 1 foot wide by 2 feet long. One side has
a vertical photo of Whitney that we now know to be the Greatest
Hits cover shot with the drill in her hand. The other side is the
close-up of her face with her hand up. I must say that she looks
over made up on this picture when you see it up close but when you
see it hanging it's beautiful. The text on this side reads "The
Greatest Hits of The Greatest Voice Of All." Underneath that is
her name and the words Greatest Hits, All her classic hits and hottest
remixes Plus for new songs (All names listed). On the bottom is
says on 2 CDs/ cass., DVD AND video. Coming spring 2000. (Thanks

From
the Hollywood Reporter: Arista founder Clive Davis made a surprise
appearance at BMG's worldwide conference Wednesday. Arriving shortly
past lunch, Davis presented Whitney Houston's upcoming greatest
hits release to a roomful of BMG executives. The two-CD compilation
will feature Houston hits "I Will Always Love You," "All At Once,"
"Where Do Broken Hearts Go," "It's Not Right, But It's OK," "I'm
Every Woman" and "How Will I Know." The package will also feature
new tracks and remixes. Davis danced around
the stage as Houston's new duet with George Michael, "If I Told
You That," played over the speakers. The duet will be the first
international single off the album. Other songs presented were "Could
I Have This Kiss Forever" sung with Enrique Iglesias (set to be
the first U.S. single) and a demo of "Same Script, Different Cast,"
which Houston sings with Deborah Cox. Davis (whose contract
with BMG runs out June 30), thanked the audience of executives,
saying: "Here's to the future of everyone."
From Billboard: Arista Records head Clive Davis made a surprise
appearance at the BMG Entertainment worldwide meeting in Los Angeles
yesterday (April 12). Davis, who had not been expected to attend,
played the attendees snippets of four new songs from Whitney Houston's
two-CD greatest-hits collection, due out May 16. Puff Daddy also
appeared, touting his new group, Dream. In
related news, Arista will release an 8-song sampler, as well as
a DVD and home video, culled from the April 10 taping of the label's
25th anniversary celebration in L.A. The $7.99 sampler, available
exclusively at Target, will contain live songs from the taping,
as well as studio cuts from the evening's participating artists.
It will be released the weekend before the special's May 15 airing
on NBC. The non-exclusive DVD and VHS versions, containing extra
footage, will be released June 6. Net proceeds from sales
of the products will go to amFAR AIDS research, City Of Hope, and
the T.J. Martell Foundation, as did net proceeds from ticket sales
from the show's taping. (Thanks Drew, Kristian)
On the Charts: Whitney's MLIYL and
ILFTB continue to slide out of the way. Read the complete statistics...
From Daily Variety: Monday's "25 Years of No. 1 Hits: Arista
Records Anniversary Celebration" at the Shrine could easily have
gone by a much shorter title: "The Whitney Watch." With live performances
by Carlos Santana, Puff Daddy, Annie Lennox, Sarah McLachlan, Patti
Smith and Barry Manilow, the taping for an NBC special was certainly
about more than Whitney Houston. (Music industry pros would say
it was at least as much about Arista founder Clive Davis' career
moves.) But it was Houston's arrival, apparent health, singing ability
and any signs of misstep that gave the evening its drama. Houston's
appearance comes after a series of career-bruising incidents. But
in true diva fashion, she was able to put all the problems behind
her and made a strong onstage presence in a floor-length, gold sequin
gown. She had a six-song set (the longest of the night) that included
a rendition of "I Believe in You and Me" directed toward Davis.
Also, husband Bobby Brown delivered an onstage glass of water and
later danced, while the evening concluded with her saying the enigmatic
words: "The record's not over yet." Among those on hand for the
taping of the two-hour TV special that began at 7 p.m. and ended
at 1 a.m. (there was lots and lots of time to socialize between
sets) were: Davis (who called the evening "a lifetime dream come
true"), Chris McGurk, Neal Moritz, Ron Silver, Billy Bob Thornton,
Kevin Pollak, Steven Seagal, Danny Glover and Jeff Bridges. |

In addition to Dionne Warwick's quotes that you can hear in the
audio files from yesterday, here's a similar statement she made
about Whitney to NBC: "Because she has truly a chronic ailment which
is bronchial, she is a vocalist and that plays havoc with your ability
to sing. If you're not human enough to understand that and have
the compassion to feel for that then that's your problem, that's
not hers!" (Thanks Abduel)
Whitney likely won't be charged
in alleged Hawaii incident...
Entertainment Tonight
aired a very brief story today about Arista Records' after-party
at a Bel Air mansion. They showed a picture of Whitney and Bobby
at the party and said that they stayed by the mansion pool talking
with friends including director Penny Marshall and Faith Evans.
There was no exclusive footage of Whitney as advertised.
PEOPLE.com
wrote a mostly positive online report about Whitney's Arista performance
on Monday. Click on the link if you want to read it. (Thanks

Clarification: The Dronez remix of "I'm Your Baby Tonight,"
which was mentioned recently at Arista's site, is actually the same
remix that was listed in earlier marketing materials. Dronez is:
Erick Morillo, Harry "Choo Choo" Romero and Jose Nunez. (Thanks

New Screen Captures: Check out new pictures from Entertainment
Tonight and CNN
Showbiz Today! ET showed Whitney being photographed backstage
with Carlos Santana and Alan Jackson for an upcoming issue of TV
Guide. All captures of Whitney performing onstage are a bit fuzzy
because both shows had to film screens in the press room, since
Arista did not give them videotapes.
New RealAudio: Listen to CNN's
and ET's reports
on the Arista event. You'll be able to hear tiny portions of Whitney
singing, and Dionne Warwick speaking about Whitney's condition.
If you pay attention, you'll notice CNN makes a mistake regarding
Whitney's performance of HWIK, while ET quotes the Associated Press
almost verbatim.
TV Alert: Entertainment Tonight said it will have exclusive
footage tomorrow of Whitney at Arista's after-party at an undisclosed
mansion. (Thanks Rachel)

Here's the first article so
far about the Arista 25th Anniversary special. The show
isn't over yet tonight, so it's not the full story.
Here are two Associated Press photos of Whitney as she arrives
at the Arista show. The first
picture is with Bobby, and the second
picture is Whitney laughing and looking at something or someone
nearby. (Thank you Ralph M.)
The WindowsMedia
site has an online promotion with new and slightly different
pictures of Whitney, plus a contest
to win a recording catalog signed by Whitney, and audio downloads
of three ILFTB remixes that we've all heard. The site also says
the Greatest Hits will be released on May 16th, rather than May
9th. Here are the new pictures:
This one is familiar,
but it's now in a much more natural, flattering color. Nice!
This is new!

From Access
Hollywood: Dick Clark, producer of the Arista special,
said of Whitney, "She looked great [at rehearsals on Sunday],
she sounded great, it went without a flaw." He added, pointing
at the camera, "I tell you that is the truth." He continued,
"She showed up for rehearsal exactly beforehand, everybody
was onstage, it went absolutely perfectly to the minute. She's
going to do a medley of songs. I absolutely guarantee there will
be a standing ovation if not once, or twice, during the course.
It's really a highlight."
Entertainment
Tonight said that "all the talk backstage" at VH1 Divas 2000
was about "another diva, Whitney Houston. We asked some of the
attendees to comment." Angela Bassett said she is saying a little
prayer for Whitney, adding, "She will be OK. She's a smart
girl and a strong woman."
Donna Summer told ET: "I Think she can take care of herself.
I think she's got a life just like anybody else's -- it has ups
and downs. Except when you live in the press, it's a little more
difficult, but I think she'll get over it."
The show also confirmed that Whitney was indeed at the rehearsals
and "her voice seemed to be strong." (Thanks Rachel)
CNN's Showbiz
Today said it will cover Whitney's attendance at the Arista
special during its program tomorrow.
Some French radio stations are now playing "I Learned From The
Best." Whitney has two songs in Europe
2's playlist:

People
Magazine: Read the article. It took eight people to glue
this piece together with old quotes and random incidents from over
the years. It's their usual formula.
I picked up a copy of People Magazine yesterday and could not believe
how low it stooped. The entire article pieces together reports from
"close sources" and bases the entire story on the Jane article as
well as some of Whitney's cancellations. There is no new information
cited in the entire article which is written to sensationalize Whitney's
"problem" as well as entice sheer shock value. The article is negative,
destructive and embraces and takes on the form of tabloid journalism.
It's also important to note that there are no new pictures of Whitney
in the article. We should all let the editor of People have it.
There is no reason at all to waste your money buying the magazine!
(Thanks John G.)
If you're fed up with the bad rap Whitney
is getting, you can send an e-mail in response to People Magazine
here. Letters should
be addressed to PEOPLE; Time & Life Building; Rockefeller Center;
New York, N.Y. 10020
We need to promote the facts that:
1. Whitney made over 60 concert appearances last year and sang entirely
live. The article only mentions her U.S. tour, which makes it sound
like she canceled 5 shows out of 25 concerts instead of 5 out of
more than 60. You can also cite the fact that other artists cancelled
more shows but were not attacked by the press.
2. Whitney made countless promotional appearances in the U.S. and
overseas.
3. The cancellations they cite are only a handful of dates compared
to all the work she's been doing non-stop since summer 1998. And
their other citations don't even add up to a great amount and are
spread broadly over the span of years.
4. Garth Brooks said Whitney did not miss her cues or sing the wrong
songs at the Oscars. He said she simply was unable to sing and that
she decided to bow out. They did not make that clear in the
limited quote they included in the article.
5. Don Was, Issac Hayes and Dionne Warwick were also on the record
that Whitney had serious throat problems that weekend.
6. They cite Jane Magazine and interview its editor. In the article,
the editor fuels the speculation, buy you can mention how she stated
on TV that Whitney's "out-of-it" state was actually due
to her dentist appointment, and that such lateness is typical from
all stars.
Also feel free to add anything else you want, as long as you take
care to be articulate and polite!

Here
is a slightly different tracklisting for Whitney's Greatest Hits,
which will be released in Germany on May 8th. The listing, under
the name "The Greatest Hits/Intl. Ballads," comes from the

final Germany list, or if it will be implemented elsewhere, if
at all.
Access

Here's
what may be the cover picture
of Whitney's upcoming "The Unreleased Mixes" box set,
as shown at Arista's site. As you can see, it's very similar to
the picture that may be the cover of the Greatest Hits album. In
addition to the picture, Arista also states that the following extended
mixes will only be available on vinyl:
I'm Your Baby Tonight - Dronez Mix [This is new!]
Greatest Love Of All - Junior Vasquez Mix
I Will Always Love You - Hex Hector Mix
The classics I'm Every Woman & Love Will Save The Day, plus
mixes by Peter Rauhofer [This is new!] and David Morales!

People Magazine! Their respective e-mail and mailing addresses
are listed below, along with suggestions. Just take care to be
articulate and polite!
Also, let's continue to vote in People's current online
poll! The question: Is Whitney Houston in trouble or being
a diva? Depending on your definition of diva, both suggestions
may seem bad, but the diva option is definitely much better! Let's
vote just in case they decide to use this poll anywhere in their
letters to the editor section or elsewhere after their new, negative
article about Whitney hits all the stores.

Jane
Magazine: Read the full story. Whitney's quotes that were
already reported have less of a bite in the full context of the
article, where you can tell she's being a little nonchalant. The
only serious question the interviewer appears to have asked her
was regarding the alleged Hawaii incident. He also frequently
claims to not understand what she's saying in the article, even
though everything she says is entirely understandable.
He is also completely ignorant about Black hair and wigs, even
though it is the article's running theme. Aside from that, the
article and the magazine itself have a generally disrespectful
tone, sometimes even being very crude.

Here is one of the new
Whitney pictures from Jane Magazine. Here's also another
new picture from the magazine.
Whitney will be on the cover of next week's People Magazine. It
will be a negative article so we need to rally together and
send e-mails and
letters to the editor to complain about the bad rap Whitney is
getting. Letters should be addressed to PEOPLE; Time & Life Building;
Rockefeller Center; New York, N.Y. 10020
We need to promote the facts that:
1. Whitney made over 60 concert appearances last year and sang
entirely live. You can cite her excellent concert reviews as well,
and cite the fact that other artists cancelled more shows but

2. Whitney made countless promotional appearances in the U.S.

3. The cancellations they cite are only a handful of dates compared

Also feel free to add anything else you want, as long as you take
care to be articulate and polite. Don't be surprised if it follows
their usual reporting method -- they usually compile random quotes
and incidents from over the past 15 years, and have about 5 to
15 contributors glue all the old pieces together. It will likely
not include new quotes on the record from anyone involved to substantiate
the innuendo. (Special thanks to Rene and Nikki)
People Magazine's web site is running an online
poll right now. The question: Is Whitney Houston in trouble
or being a diva? Let's get out the positive votes for our DIVA!
From the New
York Daily News: All eyes are on Whitney Houston. Hollywood
is wondering whether the singer will make it to Monday night's
25th-anniversary celebration for Arista Records in Los Angeles.
As the biggest record seller in the label's history, Houston is
the star attraction on a bill featuring Santana, Patti Smith,
Aretha Franklin, Deborah Cox, Barry Manilow, Next, Monica, Annie
Lennox, Toni Braxton, LFO, Five, Sarah McLachlan, Brooks & Dunn,
Alan Jackson, Puff Daddy, Kenny G and Dionne Warwick. There's
plenty riding on her performance at the taping, especially after
she missed the Oscars last month. Insiders say erratic behavior
got her dumped from Hollywood's biggest night. But Houston insisted
she just had a sore throat. This time, though, Houston is ready
for action, says Nancy Seltzer, her spokeswoman. She's putting
the finishing touches on her greatest-hits disc and planning to
head to the West Coast in time for Saturday night's rehearsal.
The show airs May 15 on NBC. "Whitney is in good spirits and looking
forward to Monday's event," says Seltzer. "The CD and Arista mean
a great deal to her." (Thanks Biko)
I won a trip to Los Angeles to attend the Arista 25th Anniversary
party through Express.com. I was informed a week ago, but waited
until today when I received my flight arrangements and tickets
to the show. I leave this weekend and have EXCELLENT SEATS! They're
worth $500 per person. I'll give you all the great details when
I return! I'll also try to take some great photos of our Diva
if I can get close enough. Wish me luck! (Good luck Desmond!)

From The
Star Ledger: At last, a word from Whitney Houston's corner.
Record superproducer Rodney Jerkins is shaking his head over reports
of behavior that got the singing star bounced off the Oscar show.
Jerkins tell us he spent two weeks last month working on a duet
with Houston and George Michael, and "everything was fine. It
was just like when I worked with her last year," says the 21-year-old
music wunderkid, who's produced such Houston hits as "It's Not
Right but It's Okay." He says, "That stuff they're putting out
there about her? I don't see that side -- and I don't want to
see that side." The duet might be out by mid-April -- It becomes
the first single off the Greatest Hits album Houston has coming
out at month's end. Houston and Michael "sound very cool together,"
says Jerkins. "I mean Whitney, to me, is a far better singer,
but I balanced out the two, and it's great." (Thanks Miguel
AG)
Yesterday evening, Access
Hollywood showed a clip of Garth Brooks talking about why
Whitney pulled out of the Oscars. He said Whitney tried her level
best to sing but she was voiceless. So SHE pulled out instead
and was NOT fired. He went on to say that Whitney NEVER acted
weird or missed her cues or sang the wrong tunes. He also praised
Faith Hill for her good work at the last minute. (Thanks Emanuel

article about Whitney's "Diva" movie. The article also
