The Whitney Weekday Request Campaign has been revamped again. The U.S. states have been divided by the letters of the alphabet. For example, if your last name begins with the letter "A," you can proceed to the row for "A" and call or e-mail any 3-5 radio stations in that section. The letters will change everyday. The goal for this new plan is to help ensure that each state gets votes everyday, without all of us voting in huge blocks. Check out the campaign list and you'll see how it works.

Another Option For Anyone With E-mail that Includes a Line For BCC: (This does not apply to AOL users, who have to do this a different way.)

If you try to send an e-mail message, you may notice that the window where you compose your message contains a line entitled "BCC." If you type a string of e-mail addresses, separated by commas, in this BCC line, you can send one message to any entire group of radio stations, and it will suppress the list of recipients. Therefore, the radio stations will not be able to see that you also sent the same message to other stations throughout the country. The only thing that they will notice is that they can't see who else received your message. If your e-mail software allows you to do this, check out this list of e-mail addresses from the Whitney Weekday Request Campaign. All you will have to do is write a message, and then copy and paste the e-mail addresses into your BCC line. DO NOT do this if your e-mail software does not provide a line called BCC!!!

Since we don't want to look too suspicious, I'm also going to suggest that we do a mass BCC e-mail by the first letter of your last names. The letters will change everyday so we're not so obvious and over-bearing. We don't want to target these radio stations so heavily that they grow tired of us. If your last name begins with the letter "K," you can try this option today!

Note: While the BCC method described above will be quite effective, it excludes many radio stations that do not provide direct e-mail addresses. Therefore, if you have five minutes, continue to check out the complete request list, because there are many links there that will take you to radio station web sites where you'll be able to send your e-mail message easily. Thanks!

Song of the Week: Listen to Whitney's rendition of "Greatest Love Of All" from the 1986 Statue of Liberty celebration! A true classic! The musical arrangement, particularly the violins, is a bit different than other performances. It gives the song a different feel that carries through to Whitney's performance. You can literally hear Whitney transitioning the song from a Pop hit into an all-time live anthem. (Thank you Jonathon Ashley)

Sales and Music Chart Preview: Get the first look at this week's chart rankings and actual sales for Whitney's ILFTB single and MLIYL album. The rest of the chart information will be released tomorrow.

On VH-1, Garth Brooks said he will perform with Whitney and Ray Charles at the Academy Awards. (Thanks Francis L.)
Here's a more specific hint at what to expect from the Academy Awards music tribute. Earlier this month in Variety, columnist Army Archerd wrote:
Dancing, no — music, yes. There’ll be something to sing about besides the five nominated songs on this year’s Oscars. Burt Bacharach and Don Was are choosing from among past Oscar-winning and nominated songs for a medley to point up the fact so many hit records originated in movies — going back as far as the ’30s, before there ever was any dream of a VH-1. Garth Brooks will be singing at least one of those tunes: “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” from “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” (1969). The Oscar-winning tune was originally sung/recorded by B.J. Thomas and became a multimillion-platter seller.

I went to the FNAC music store today and they told me that "I Learned From The Best" will be released as a single next week in France! (Thanks Julian S.)

French Chart News Update...

In yesterday's New York Daily News, Rosie O' Donnell dismissed rumors of a feud between herself and Whitney. Rosie still insists that she had spoken to Whitney beforehand about the joke and that Whitney had agreed to raise her fist in response. (Thanks John G.)

Today on ABC's "The View," Asian international artist Coco Lee made her American debut. When asked who her main influences were, she answered Whitney Houston and went on to say that she won an Asian talent search by singing a Whitney song. (Thanks again John G.)

Getmusic.com lists Whitney's Greatest Hits at $18.97 after discount! So far it appears the CD set will be priced in a range of $18-25. The store also lists the Greatest Hits VHS at $14.96 after discount. The CD tracklisting is identical to the one we've already seen twice before. No listing is given for the video. (Thanks Greg)

Whitney donates autograph to benefit Big Sister League...

The carnival season is over [in Trinidad and Tobago] and radio stations have resumed playing their regular music. Whitney's ILFTB is being played around the clock on all the major stations and the people here are loving it. Last night in the requested part of the "cool grooves" program, people were calling in and requesting ILFTB and [get this] MLIYL! Note this is the same program that uses an hour to do the countdown and MLIYL has already spent 22 weeks on the chart, 6 being spent at No. 1! The DJ had no choice but to do a Whitney Houston double-play, and after, he said that it was for all the Whitney fans out there and he knows that there are a LOT of them. (Thanks Carolyn)

Amazon.com lists Whitney's Greatest Hits for advanced order at $24.97 list price (before discount), scheduled for release on May 9th. The tracklisting is identical to the one that was unveiled last week, and no official title is listed for the set except "Greatest Hits." (Thanks Rachel)

New Screen Captures: Check out Whitney's first music video, for the song "You Give Good Love!"

Paul Anka, who rose to fame in the 1950's with the song "Diana" and who wrote many hits inlcuding Sinatra's "My Way," was on CNN's Larry King Live tonight. He talked about the state of the music industry today. He said that it's like a freight train that sometimes goes off the track, once per generation. There are a lot of "formula" artists, but he mentioned some exceptions: Santana, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion. He singled them out as "real" music. (Thanks Rachel)

Here's some good advice on how to try to get Oprah tickets for Whitney's appearance that airs May 9th: The main ticket reservation telephone number is (312)591-9222. When the line is open, it is EXTREMELY busy. You could sit on the phone and hit redial until your finger falls off. This line re-opens on Monday, March 13 for April reservations. There is a possibility that the May 9th Whitney show will be taped in April. You may or may not be able to request her show. They usually keep celebrity guests' tape dates secret. You cannot write in for tickets or order them from the Internet.
If you live in Chicago or get the Oprah show through Channel 7 Chicago WLS-TV, they usually have promotional announcements for upcoming shows during the closing credits of other King World distributed shows, such as Wheel of Fortune (at 6:57 p.m. CST) or Inside Edition. Listen at these times near the end of April/early May for a possible announcement for Whitney fans to call the promotional number, (312)591-9111. They did this recently for the Tina Turner show. I called in, but didn't get a call back. Apparently, they must have been filled up. Bottom line, you really have to know somebody who works on the show to get tickets.
If you're really a die hard fan you can try this: If you know the date of the Whitney taping, you can go to the studios and ask somebody in line if they have any extra reservations that they're not going to use (i.e. they said on the reservation phone that 4 people would be coming with them, but the fourth person cancelled). They will let them switch ONE person in their party. Chicago people are usually pretty nice, and if you explain that you're a BIG Whitney fan, I'm sure they'll let you in line. Be sure to get there early. Lines form about 3 hours before the taping is scheduled to start. GOOD LUCK!!! (Thank you Kevin H.)

Here are the two additional pictures from Germany's Gala magazine, as reported two days ago. The first picture is from Arista's pre-Grammy party. The second is Whitney with director Rudi Dolezal at the Bambi Awards last year. Dolezal filmed Whitney during her MLIYL tour. (Thanks Clemens)

In People Magazine's "Insider" column (March 20 issue) it says: "Patrons at Miyagi's in West Hollywood got a real treat recently when Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown sang karaoke. Brown belted out a couple of songs while Houston sang such a powerful rendition of "I Will Always Love You" that people called friends on their cell phones so they could listen in..." (Thanks Ralph M.)

Here is a picture of Whitney from last year's MTV Europe Music Awards with R&B singer TQ. I am not sure who the other person is. (Thanks Karly)

On The Charts: Whitney's ILFTB single makes some great gains in sales, but again fails to appear on the Hot 100 Airplay chart, and drops a bit on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart. It is very important that we request the song as much as we can. With an increase in airplay plus strong sales, the song can continue to climb higher.
Also, let's request the song's music video at MTV Total Request Live! Remember to delete your cookies!

Unfortunately, Whitney did not win a German Echo Award tonight for Best International Singer. Cher won. (Thanks Michelle S., Fanny)

Here's a picture of Whitney with former Ariola Chief Monty Lüftner at the Arista pre-Grammy party. The picture is from the German magazine entitled "Gala." (Thanks Clemens)

A new Whitney fan convention will be held in Lindau, Germany this August! For details, click here!

Fifteen years ago today, Whitney's single "You Give Good Love" debuted on the R&B Singles charts in the March 9, 1985 issue of Billboard Magazine. The song debuted at No. 89. Eleven weeks later it would become Whitney's first No. 1 single, reaching the pole position on the R&B chart. (Research by Ralph M.)

From Hollywood Reporter: Clive Davis, the 66-year-old Arista Records founder who has been embroiled in a very public battle with Arista parent BMG over the future of his employment, has been talking to Universal Music Group about possibly setting up a label under the Seagram-owned company. Although BMG is understood to have offered Davis the opportunity to set up his own label there, Davis and Universal Music Group chairman and CEO Doug Morris have been discussing for several weeks Davis moving to the Universal family. Sources said the talks are continuing. Davis has been in a bitter contract dispute with BMG president and CEO Strauss Zelnick for months. Davis' contract expires June 30. Davis, through his publicist, had no comment. A Universal spokesman also declined comment. (Thanks Tony L.)

Entertainment Tonight announced that Whitney will perform at this year's Oscars on ABC-TV, March 26th. They didn't give any specific details on what she would perform. This will be the second year in a row that Whitney will sing live at the Academy Awards! (Thanks Michael, Mike L., Tomiko, Margaret, David W., Denton)

Very Interesting: The German society-magazine "Gala" showed three Whitney pictures this week. One shows Whitney with her old friend Monty Lüftner at the Arista pre-Grammy party after the Grammy Awards. In another photo you can see her in a very beautiful and tight violet dress with a plushy grey jacket. The third photo shows Whitney with the Austrian documentary director Rudi Dolezal, who filmed Whitney during the MLIYL tour. The text says she phoned him just after the Grammy show. Her message: "Please, come as soon as possible to L.A. in order to organize and manage my new TV show on CBS." No further details were given. (Thank you Tobias G.)

Sales and Music Chart Preview: Track the sales statistics for this week's Billboard charts! These charts include the chart rank and actual unit sales. The rest of the chart information, including the all-important airplay statistics, will be released tomorrow.
In addition, ILFTB is down to No. 7 from No. 5 on the Hot Dance Music-Club Play chart this week. (Thanks Ralph M.)

In Malaysia, there is going to be a third run of the TV program "Whitney: Giving You Her Best." This show has been repeated 2 times already on 2 different local TV stations. This time, it is going to be aired on TV3. It showcases Whitney's career from the very beginning and shows excerpts from the Merv Griffin Show and MTV's All Access. (Thanks Seng Soon Y.)

Whitney Chart History: Fourteen years ago today, in Billboard's March 8, 1986 issue, "Whitney Houston" hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart in its 50th week. (Research by Ralph M.)

According to a number of news sources, Whitney was unable to attend the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame festivities last night, where she had planned to give a tribute to Arista's Clive Davis. Whitney had voice problems due to her hectic schedule.

According to Dutch television, Whitney has been nominated for an Edison Award as Best International Singer. This is a Dutch award. We will know if she won on April 6th. (Thanks Yvonne V.)

I was watching the Rosie O'Donnell Show today and she was interviewing Kathy Lee, and they were talking about how the media tells lies. Rosie agreed and said when she was at the Grammys and rehearsing the show, Rosie said she "told Whitney that [she] would say 'Aloha' and for Whitney to put up her fist." She demonstrated how Whitney was to put up her fist. Then Rosie said the next day she heard on the news and Entertainment Tonight that there was a big fight between Whitney and Rosie and Whitney gave Rosie the finger. Rosie said it didn't happen and there is no feud between them. (Thanks Joseph)

If you would like to attend Arista's 25th Anniversary celebration in California, you can enter to win tickets here! (Thanks Saira)

Here are two pictures of Whitney at the Soul Train Awards last year, which were posted at the Soul Train web site. This picture shows Whitney rehearsing INRBIO on stage, and this second one shows Whitney with Luther Vandross. (Thanks Paula)

From Fox News Online: Depending on her situation vis-a-vis restraining orders and alleged stalkers, Whitney Houston is scheduled to open the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony tonight at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. This will be a tribute to Clive Davis, who's being inducted as an executive. After this, I hope Whitney will take a few months off and cool out. She's been performing constantly for almost a year and needs a break and a return to real life.

Whitney is on the cover of the March 13 issue of Jet Magazine, which reports on the recent Grammy Awards. Here is the cover picture, and this other familiar picture is inside the magazine.

New Audio! Hear an alternate version of the opening lines of the song "My Love Is Your Love" that Whitney sang especially for Wyclef Jean! She changed the words a little! Wyclef played this special shout out from Whitney at London's Reggae Sunsplash. (Many thanks Rachel D. and Marie-Eve B.)

Here's a nice picture of Whitney accepting her Artist of the Decade-Female award last night! The picture is from Soul Train's web site, which also has a short RealVideo clip of the musical tribute Whitney received when she was awarded the Quincy Jones Award of Lifetime Achievement in 1998. Also, here's the 1998 Soul Train poster. (Thanks Paula)

Here is an excerpt from a SonicNet article about the album party for Jodeci's Dalvin DeGrate last week. As reported, both Whitney and Bobby attended:
"I enjoy Dalvin very much," Houston said after [DeGrate's] performance. "It's like watching a protégé of my husband."
…Brown said he saw DeGrate as welcome competition. "I think he's one of the premier artists coming out this year, along with myself, who are going to change history in this music business," said the former New Edition member, who hit it big as a solo artist in the '80s with such songs as "My Prerogative."
"There's a lot of stuff out there that is good, but I wanna see something that is great again," Brown continued. "Dalvin is going to be one of them. I'm just glad to have him in the camp. I'm glad to have somebody on the charts that I can fight with. He gives me a real big challenge to go back in and tighten my sh-- up." Brown said he is finished with his next album, which will be titled Bobby Brown.

It Looks Like Everyone Loves MLIYL: In this month's Playboy, music listeners chose "My Love Is Your Love" as Best R&B Album of 1999! (Thanks Francis L.)

New Screen Captures and RealAudio! See and hear Whitney accept her award as Soul Train's Artist of the Decade-Female! She did not win the two awards that she was nominated for MLIYL, but it was still a great night!

Screen Captures:
  • Whitney accepts her award!
  • Whitney accepts a plaque signifying her record sales at the Arista Records pre-Grammy party. This clip was shown during Soul Train's tribute to Whitney.

RealAudio: Whitney's acceptance speech! During her thank you's, she sings lines from "It's Not Right But It's Okay" and "Love Will Save The Day."
And at the end, she sings "Happy Birthday" to Bobbi Kristina who turned 7 years old today! You can see Bobbi Kristina's big smile in the screen captures when her Mommy sings to her!

Note: Whitney's Greatest Hits project was mentioned briefly during the award presentation. More publicity!

There is a picture of Whitney on page 148 of the current People Magazine (March 13 issue). It is a backstage shot of her holding her Grammy, wearing her pink dress. Also, there is a little paragraph about her on page 122 in the "StyleWatch: Behind the Seams" column:
"Among those glamming it up at the Grammys was Whitney Houston, who could have used a traffic cop to navigate the people pileup in her dressing room. Holding court were eight family members plus two tailors, a stylist and Italian designer Fausto Puglisi, who created the crystal-adorned black leather ensemble the diva wore onstage. Houston took it all in stride, sipping bubbly with hubby Bobby Brown between costume changes."
Also, in People's "Insider" column on page 59, it says: "The rumors about the instability of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's marriage never seem to fade, but that doesn't bother Brown in the least. "We're together, forever, " he told me [Kelly Carter, the article's writer] at the Grammys, crossing his fingers and tapping them against his heart. "That's why we got married." As for Houston, she never misses a chance to publicly express her devotion to him. Upon accepting her Grammy for best female R&B vocal performance, she gushed, "Honey, this one is for you -- the original R&B king. I love you." "What she said to me sent chills through my body, and I'm walking around with this energy that I didn't have before," Brown said. "I'm feeling really good about it." (Thank you Ralph M.)

Here is a picture of Whitney and Bobby at a Los Angeles party on March 2nd to celebrate the first solo album by Jodeci's Dalvin DeGrate. The festivities were held beneath a huge tent in the Playboy Mansion estate's back yard. Other celebrities in attendance included Mary J. Blige, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Vivica A. Fox, Holly Robinson, Carmen Electra, and athletes John Salley and Rodney Peete.

Deborah Cox discusses upcoming duet with Whitney...

    On The Charts:
Whitney's ILFTB maxi single hits No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart and scores impressive Hot 100 sales as well! The song also leaps up the overall Hot 100 chart and the MLIYL album jumps almost 20 notches on the Billboard 200. Plus the latest from Germany and other international charts. Read the complete statistics...

Very Important: While the ILFTB single is doing very well so far in its early sales, the song really needs a big push at radio. As it stands, the single has yet to reappear in the Hot 100 Airplay chart, and slips one place on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. If you're concerned about the song's ability to move higher in the coming weeks, the power is in your hands: Let's keep requesting the song! This site gives several different methods of requesting, and you are free to handle it in other ways too. The key to success is being proactive!

The 2000 BRIT Awards will be held tomorrow and broadcasted in the U.K. on ITV beginning at 21:00 GMT on March 4. The winners will be announced live at the Brit Awards web site tomorrow. As we know, Whitney has been nominated as Best International Female Artist.

This ad for the Soul Train Music Awards describes why Whitney is being named Artist of the Decade-Female: "For extraordinary artistic contributions, in every major entertainment medium, including music, film, television, live concerts and the all important life medium of motherhood, during the 1990s." (Thanks Paula)

Let's vote for Whitney in this Great Albums poll! (Thanks Francis L.)

Attention Mailing List Members: Additonal songs have been added to the Vienna 1999 concert audio. It's a fabulous gospel medley of "Leaning On the Everlasting Arms" and "Jesus Loves Me." I've never heard Whitney sing the first song before, and the live rendition of "Jesus Loves Me" is more traditional than the jazzy rendition recorded for "The Bodyguard" soundtrack. Be sure to revisit the Vienna audio and check it out!

Also here's some information about the Song of the Week, "On The Far Side Of The Hill," which debuted here yesterday: The song is a duet by Whitney and a Dutch singer, Liesbeth List, who sang it originally. I think they translated Whitney's part of the song specifically for that occasion. (Thanks Inge)

Here's some additional news about Whitney's Greatest Hits:
According to unnamed sources, the final decision on the GHP's number of tracks has not been made and will depend primarily on how recording sessions work out. In addition, the media campaign for the album will incorporate the Internet in a big way. (Thanks Manish)

New RealAudio and RealVideo: See Whitney perform "I Learned From The Best" from Top Of The Pops last year, and hear her rendition of "My Love Is Your Love" from the same appearance on the show. There already is a RealAudio file of ILFTB in the TV audio section as well. Also, hear Whitney talk about how how she dislikes music categorization during an interview she gave for MTV in 1993. The audio includes a joking, impromptu country music song from Whitney's 1991 TV special entitled "This Is My Life." (Many thanks Eddy VB)

Whitney won the Intenational Artist Award on the Dance Music Awards 99 in Brazil. They said really good things about the remix of INRBIO, HH and MLIYL. (Thanks Roberto)

Music Chart Preview: Whitney's ILFTB drops to No. 5 from No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music - Club Play chart. This chart is not an indication of how the commercial single will perform.

MTV repeats the news about Whitney's upcoming duet with George Michael that ABC reported last week:

Professional diva Whitney Houston has a greatest-hits album in the works, and the project promises to include a handful of new and reworked tracks, including a pairing with a diva of another sort... George Michael.
The song featuring the duo will be "If I Told You That," which already appears in solo form on Houston's 1998 LP "My Love Is Your Love." Handling the production duties on the duet will be Rodney Jerkins, who gave the details to MTV News' John Norris backstage at last week's Grammy Awards.
"It's supposed to be a duet between her and Michael Jackson," Jerkins began. "We couldn't get the Michael Jackson thing to happen, so George Michael was the next pick. I think he's gonna nail it. I can't wait to do the vocals, and everything's gonna be incredible."
Other duets planned for the Houston package are one with Deborah Cox as well as "Could I Have This Kiss Forever" with Enrique Iglesias, a song which can be found on his "Enrique" album. The collection is due out in May.

Let's continue to vote for Whitney in this Brit Awards Poll for Best International Female Artist! The poll appeared to be reset yesterday, and now Britney Spears is far ahead at the moment. We don't have to delete cookies. (Thanks Andrew J.)
