The
Whitney Weekday Request Campaign
has been revamped again. The U.S. states have been divided by
the letters of the alphabet. For example, if your last name begins
with the letter "A," you can proceed to the row for "A"
and call or e-mail any 3-5 radio stations in that section. The letters
will change everyday. The goal for this new plan is to help ensure
that each state gets votes everyday, without all of us voting in
huge blocks. Check out the campaign list and you'll see how it works.
Another Option For Anyone With E-mail that Includes a Line For
BCC: (This does not apply to AOL
users, who have to do this a different way.)
If you try to send an e-mail message, you may notice that the window
where you compose your message contains a line entitled "BCC."
If you type a string of e-mail addresses, separated by commas, in
this BCC line, you can send one message to any entire group of radio
stations, and it will suppress the list of recipients. Therefore,
the radio stations will not be able to see that you also sent the
same message to other stations throughout the country. The only
thing that they will notice is that they can't see who else received
your message. If your e-mail software allows you to do this, check
out this list of e-mail addresses
from the Whitney Weekday Request Campaign. All you will have to
do is write a message, and then copy and paste the e-mail addresses
into your BCC line. DO NOT do this if your
e-mail software does not provide a line called BCC!!!
Since we don't want to look too suspicious, I'm also going to suggest
that we do a mass BCC e-mail by the first letter of your last names.
The letters will change everyday so we're not so obvious and over-bearing.
We don't want to target these radio stations so heavily that they
grow tired of us. If your last name begins
with the letter "B," you can try this option today!
Note:
While the BCC method described above will be quite effective, it
excludes many radio stations that do not provide direct e-mail addresses.
Therefore, if you have five minutes, continue to check out the complete
request list, because there are many links there that will take
you to radio station web sites where you'll be able to send your
e-mail message easily. Thanks! |

Christina
Aguilera talked about Enrique Iglesias during her promotion in Spain
(they sang together at the last Super Bowl) and she said Enrique
told her that his next single will be "Could I Have This Kiss
Forever." She also said that she loves the song and she would
love to work with Whitney. (Thanks Laura) [Enrique has a
different single coming out now, so it should be at least a couple
of months before he releases his next song.]

Happy Valentine's Day!
Today marks the 15th anniversary of the release of Whitney's first
album, entitled "Whitney Houston." The album remains the
top-selling debut by any artist in music history.
Whitney
Wins! According to the Mr.
Showbiz web site, Whitney has won the Favorite Female Artist
award at the NAACP
Image awards for "Heartbreak Hotel." The awards will be televised
April 6th on FOX-TV. There is no word on whether Whitney attended
the awards, but she was not shown on TV entertainment news shows
that reported on the ceremony. (Thanks Shauren)
"Strong,
talented, beautiful, black." On Sunday night on
Showtime, they showed a documentary called, "It's Black Entertainment,"
and Whitney was an interviewee. Whitney wore the same hairstyle
as Diva's Live/99 and looked classy in a black dress suit. She was
featured in a segment called "Divas" and commented on the following:
On Lena Horne: "You're talking
about a woman who had so much -- to deal with. Here she is in
Hollywood surrounded by -- the 'white factor.' On the other hand
she goes home and she's a sista who has to deal with civil rights
issues. But she stands there poised, confident. Forget about the
beauty, it's just beyond that."
On Dorothy Dandridge: "She was
probably the first singer in Hollywood -- black actress singer,
who could act and sing and dance -- with beauty. She had it across
the board."
Other people on Whitney Houston, who was also included among
the great Divas:
Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis: "Clive
Davis said about this girl that she's gonna be the next -- whatever.
He basically said, 'You need to get with this girl.' He played
us a couple of songs, like demos she had done, and it was absolutely
incredible."
Reginald Hudlin (director): "When
Whitney sang 'I Will Always Love You,' which is Dolly's song,
and she didn't just copy it, she really, really re-invented it
and made it her own. It was so exciting."
Quincy Jones: "Pound for pound,
no one did what Whitney did on 'The Bodyguard,' in terms of picture
gross and selling 31 million albums. I mean, Prince did a nice
job on 'Purple Rain' -- Whitney did four times as much in every
area."
Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis: "She could
do nothing else but sing and she would be fine. The fact that
she acts and performs and does all the other things I think just
makes her the consummate diva of today."
Whitney on the Divas: "I am proud
of Lena, I am proud of Diana, I am proud of Dorothy. I am proud
of them all. I have to say 'thank you' for putting up with as
much as they did. Because we're here today. We are here today
in full number. Strong, talented, beautiful, black." (Many
thanks to Bud)
From Billboard's
The Rhythm & The Blues Column: The United Negro College Fund's
"Evening Of Stars'' January fundraiser, with performances
by Lauryn Hill, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Barry White,
raised $13.5 million in cash and pledges.
At HMV of Newcastle (UK), when you check Whitney's CDs, you can
see MLIYL, IYBT and all. BUT there are special stickers that say:
New Release coming soon: Greatest Hits, ask to reserve a copy!!!
(Thanks Bruno A.)
At the end of today's Total Request Live on MTV, host Carson Daly
said that Whitney will be on the show on Friday. The TRL
web site says the show will premiere Whitney's new music video
for ILFTB. (Thanks David W.) [Since I don't think TRL has
ever played the video before, it could very well be the same video
that we have already seen. But stayed tuned on Friday just in
case!]

New
RealVideo and Screen Captures: To celebrate Whitney's Soul Train
Music Awards nominations, take a look at this fantastic behind-the-scenes
video footage of Whitney's
dance studio rehearsal for last year's awards! She even sings bits
of INRBIO as she practices the steps with her dancers in front of
a huge wall mirror! This clip is very rare and it's probably my
favorite so far. You can also check out screen captures here!
The approximately 6-minute RealVideo has been divided into two parts
to allow for faster downloading.
You can check out the ILFTB
music video at France's NRJ web site. They also have a small

From The
Hollywood Reporter: Word is that Arista founder Clive Davis
will step down but may stay at parent BMG, possibly starting a new
label with other outside investors. Antonio "L.A." Reid, who is
in line for Davis' post, has already been in touch with several
Arista artists. There have been meetings between management and
team Davis during the past two days, sources said. Davis, 66, has
been in a bitter contract dispute with BMG president and CEO Strauss
Zelnick for several months. One source said discussions are continuing.
BMG declined comment. (Thanks Tony L.)

Courtesy of Biko, here's
a picture of one of Whitney's costumes now on display at the
popular "Rock
Style" exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
City. As reported before, it's an exhibit of clothes worn by famous
musical artists. Here's Biko's report: I visited the exhibit yesterday
primarily to see Whitney's outfit and it was pretty cool. She
donated one of her Dolce & Gabbana outfits from the MLIYL tour.
The outfit is on a Whitney-esque mannequin, hair and all, except
it's a bit more artistic in that the mannequin is silver in color
and so is the hair, but it is undoubtedly Whitney. There was also
a D&G sketch of one of Whitney's outfits posted on a nearby wall.
People were flocking to the Whitney window a lot. I felt so proud...lol.

There will finally be a Whitney weekend at Dutch TV station TMF.
The date isn't announced yet, but the VJ said it will come soon.

The press shows some good taste and protects Whitney and themselves
at the same time: According to USA Today, several large newspapers
refused to run a Boondocks comic strip that poked fun at Whitney's
alleged marijuana incident last month. The comic strip suggested
that Whitney do a duet with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre about the joys
of pot smoking. Apparently, this comic strip is pretty controversial.
It's not the first time one of the strips has been banned. (Thanks
Nic)

A magazine called "100 Years Of Black Achievement" includes a list
of successful African Americans, and in the music section, Whitney
graces two full pages (a picture from the "Waiting To Exhale"
days). She is lying on a couch, wearing a black dress with a slit
up to her thigh. She talks about how she liked music from day one
and how she wanted to sing. She also talks about Bobbi Kristina
and how much she means to her and her husband. The magazine also
talks about her production company and her foundation for children.

Gregory Godek, author of "1001 Ways To Be Romantic," has

2. "As Time Goes By," from the film Casablanca (1942)
3. "Something," by The Beatles (1969)

Happy
31st Birthday to Bobby Brown!
A PR department apparently made an error in a recent press
release that mentioned Whitney's sales for the MLIYL album.
According to the release, Whitney is certified at 2 million copies
in the U.S., and 8 million internationally. Actually, the album
was recently certified at 3 million copies in the U.S., which brings
Whitney's grand total for MLIYL to 11 million copies worldwide,
and counting! Way to go Whitney! (Thanks Ashley)
This biography CD (front
and back covers), entitled
"The Compact Whitney Houston," is listed for sale at CDNOW
for just under $13. It's an unofficial CD that features mostly narration,
and less than 10 actual spoken quotes from Whitney. It just includes
those quotes and general coverage of Whitney's career, and does
not include any of her music. Also at CDNOW, you can pre-order the
ILFTB single, which it expects to be released on February 22nd.
Here's some additional Elvis Presley trivia that is related to Whitney:
Rumor has it that Presley loved the song "I Will Always Love You"
by Dolly Parton and planned to record his own version, but it never
materialized. In addition, Whitney's mother Cissy was a member of
the "Sweet Inspirations" which worked as his backing-vocal group.
Also, both Whitney and Presley both did charity shows - for instance
Presley's Aloha from Hawaii - for the Kui Lee Cancer funds. And
not only did Presley sing "Somebody Bigger Than You and I" in 1967,
but both Whitney and he have sung "Bridge Over Troubled Water,"
"Amazing Grace," "America The Beautiful" and "Battle Hymn of the
Republic." (Thanks Eddy VB) |

New
"I Learned From The Best" Remixes in RealAudio:
ILFTB Junior Vasquez USA Millennium
Vocal Mix - This sounds very similar at first to Junior's
Club Mix, but it actually takes more twists and turns, and includes
a bit of Whitney's vocals from "Step By Step."
ILFTB Disco Mix - This remix
turns the house mix on its ear with an authentic disco beat. The
greatest aspect of the disco mixes is that you can hear Whitney's
full re-vocal of ILFTB! This recording is very reminiscent
of Whitney's live renditions of the song. It's significantly different
from the original version.
ILFTB Disco Padappella -
Very similar to the Disco Mix, but the music is significantly
stripped down so you can hear Whitney's new vocals and adlibs
loud and clear. She also says a couple of different things in
this mix than in the Disco Mix.
ILFTB Disco Edit - An edited
version of the Disco Mix.
Note to Whitney Collectors: The Junior Vasquez Mixshow
remix is identical to the Junior Vasquez Radio Mix that is already
posted at this site.
From Entertainment Weekly: ''American Psycho,'' which debuted
at Sundance last week, has proven true to the spirit of Brett
Easton Ellis' book, down to its antihero's penchant for pop. The
movie (due in April) uses Huey Lewis' ''Hip to Be Square,'' Phil
Collins' ''Sussudio,'' and an instrumental of the Whitney Houston
hit ''The Greatest Love of All'' in lurid murder and/or sex scenes,
all accompanied by the evildoer's heartfelt praise.
Did the stars know their music would score such grisly images?
Lewis won't comment, but Collins' manager, Tony Brown, now says
he ''did not realize the link when granting the approval. There
is no relation to violence in [Phil's] music or lyrics.'' Meanwhile,
Houston rep Lynn Volkman says ''Since they're not using Whitney's
version, and she didn't write the song, they didn't need to come
to us.'' But, she adds, ''If the public perceives this to be a
Whitney song, I think I'm going to call her lawyer and see what
his thoughts are.''
Here is a press release

Today I was at HMV in New York (42 Street between 7th & 8th Avenues)

It includes:
1. Radio Edit 3:49
2. HQ2 Radio Mix 4:23
3. Junior Vasquez Radio Mix 4:58
4. HQ2 Club Mix
5. Junior Vasquez Club Mix 11:37
Also there is a MLIYL import full length CD that has 5 more songs
- but most are remixes we have heard. It has almost the same cover
like the ILFTB single and includes:
1. MLIYL Jonathan Peters Mix
2. MLIYL Wyclef Mix featuring Dyme
3. INRBIO Thunderpuss Mix
4. INRBIO Smooth Mix
5. HH Hex Hector Mix

For anyone who may have been wondering about
the film project, "Anything For You," in light of yeserday's announcement
that Whitney would collaborate with Will Smith's company on a

WHITNEY HOUSTON has signed on with WILL SMITH's Overbook Entertainment
to play the leading lady in a remake of the stylish cult French
thriller "Diva," which portrays an African-American opera singer
who refuses to allow her voice to be recorded. Houston will also

Whitney
to Star in Movie Remake "Diva," in collaboration with
Will Smith's film company. Read the details...
On yesterday's Whitney - Dance program on MTV Asia, there was a
small segment where Whitney deliberated very long before saying
that her favorite music video would have to be "It's Not Right
But It's Okay." She likes the "feminism" and "simplicity",
and yet the "strongness" in it. According to Whitney, the feminism
and the tough side of the song represents her character very well.
On this morning's Whitney - Ballad, there was a small segment where
Whitney happily admits that she "knows" that she would definitely
be a "teacher" if she was not a singer. She said that she "communicates"
better with children than with adults and she finds children's way
of thinking to be interesting. (Thanks Seng Soon Y.)
In honor of Black History Month, the cable channel SHOWTIME will
air a documentary called, "It's Black Entertainment" on February
13th at 8 p.m. EST. Vanessa Williams will host the collection of
scenes from movies and shorts, some rare, featuring stellar black
performers. Their achievements are put in perspective by fellow
artists including Gregory Hines, Debbie Allen and Smokey Robinson.
"I am proud of Lena. I am proud of Diana. I am proud of Dorothy,"
Whitney Houston says in the film. ". . . I would say thank you for
putting up with as much as they did, because we are here today.
. . . Strong, talented, beautiful, black." (Thanks Dan L., Biko)

New ILFTB
Junior Vasquez Remixes: The two main mixes are the "USA Millennium
Vocal Mix" and the "Disco Mix." The Millennium mix is
good because Junior uses a little of the vocals from "Step By
Step." The part where Whitney says, "Come on baby gotta keep moving"
comes in the middle of the song and repeats thoughout the middle
of the mix. Now the DISCO MIX !!! This is the version that we
heard about with added stuff. It starts with Whitney talking junk:
"Microphone on we ready to rock." Then it starts with a club beat
that has me dancing as I write this. It's a little sassy yet very
danceable. (Thank you Alan M.)
Listen to an excerpt of DJ Nic's new, non-Arista remix of "If
I Told You That (Nic's Bavaro Beat Mix)." It's great!
Whitney Houston is MTV Asia's Artist
of the Month for February. They have already dedicated their
Non-Stop Hits segment to Whitney's music videos. They are going
to have "All Access - Whitney Houston" and will repeat "Whitney
TV." They also have compiled music videos for an hour of Whitney
- Dance, an hour of Whitney - Ballad, an hour of Whitney - Pop,
and an hour of Whitney - Classic. The only program missing is
Divas Live/99. (Thanks Seng Soon Y., Sergio)
Let's continue to e-mail the Belgian station Radio
Contact! Yesterday night, they played ILFTB and said that
everyday, people want to hear Whitney! They also read some e-mail
in English! So, let's go!
We also can request Whitney at the MTVe
site. I think MTV should make a weekend or day special for
Whitney. They did it for Michael Jackson, Madonna, Britney, Ricky
-- so why not Whitney? (Thanks Marie-Eve)
I've been to the FNAC today (the most important French music store)
and "My Love Is Your Love" is No. 12 for the second consecutive
week on their Top 20 albums! It was No. 6 two weeks ago! The store

well. (Thanks Julian S.)
I talked to a friend who lives in Atlanta, GA today and he said
that radio stations, Kiss 104.7 in particular, have been playing
ILFTB "every 5 minutes" as he put it! Hopefully this will encourage
fans to keep up the request campaign!
