New Screen Captures, RealVideo and RealAudio: Check out Whitney's stellar performance of "God Bless America" at New York's Radio City Music Hall that aired on HBO tonight! She's changed her look a bit -- fabulous as ever and her voice was excellent! She did not sing the national anthem, which had been announced earlier.

France's first NRJ Music Awards, which will air January 22nd on TF1, can be followed on NRJ WebTV. As previously reported, Whitney has been nominated as Best Female International Artist and for International Album of the Year. The awards ceremony will probably be broadcasted from 9 to 12 p.m. Belgium time, which is 3 to 6 p.m. EST. (Thanks Eddy VB)

Whitney's "My Love Is Your Love" was the second best single on "The Lick" 1999 chart, which was broadcasted on MTV Europe yesterday. (Thanks Eddy VB)

Let's vote for Whitney at this Divas Forever web site poll! At the bottom of the totals you can either add a vote for Whitney or subtract a vote from another diva. (Thanks Jeremy)

And I Am Telling You I Am Not Going: Music awards shows vie for talent. For anyone who was hoping the Grammy rule didn't exist, it has been confirmed that Whitney will not perform at the upcoming American Music Awards, and she apparently will not attend the show either. Read the details...

Let's keep voting for Whitney in the American Music Awards poll! Try clicking on the submit button once, and then hitting your space bar repeatedly before the next page has a chance to load. This trick apparently works sometimes rather than having to use your "Back" button to vote repeatedly. The winners will be announced on the show!

Have your VCRs ready just in case!
Here is an excerpt from an Associated Press sports article regarding the boxing match where Whitney will perform the U.S. national anthem: "Before Jones and Telesco go on stage before a sellout crowd of 5,700, Whitney Houston will sing the national anthem. The 12-round bout will be part of an HBO-televised doubleheader with a 10-round heavyweight fight between Derrick Jefferson and David Izon. The telecast begins at 9:45 p.m. EST, with the title match set for about 11 p.m." The match will air on HBO. There is no guarantee that the network will air Whitney's performance, but be prepared if you don't want to miss it.

Read this article from the February issue of Sister 2 Sister magazine, which covers Whitney's all-star benefit gala from last year.

Also, here's a picture from the event of Whitney, Bobby and Sister 2 Sister magazine publisher Jamie Foster Brown, who has been mothering Bobby since he was very young and teases Whitney all the time. The caption reads: "Jamie said she pinched Bobby on his butt and he wimped out and told Whitney. Whitney said, 'You're going to learn to keep your hands off my husband.' (She doesn't scare me!)"

Billboard reports poll results that we already know: "With 42.7% of the votes, Whitney Houston's Arista release 'My Love Is Your Love' got the nod as favorite Top R&B/Hip-Hop album, with TLC's LaFace/Arista set 'Fanmail' close behind with 27.3% of the vote." Many thanks again to all the fans who voted! But a 15% point difference does not equal TLC being "close behind." It was a solid win.

Looking back, MTV Europe rebroadcasted Whitney TV on January 9th from London's HMV megastore. It was filmed not long after releasing MLIYL. Whitney was interviewed by the presenter and by her fans as well. There was a cut through her videos, and when "I'm Every Woman" aired, Whitney said it was her favorite because she was "pregnant, happy and fat." When asked what was her favorite song from MLIYL, she answered "You'll Never Stand Alone," because it's for Bobbi Kristina, and "I Learned From The Best." (Thanks Katerina L.)

Take a look at Jonathon Ashley's newly revamped site, which includes "Shrine to the Diva," dedicated to Whitney! You can also listen to RealAudio of Jonathon's new album! The man can sang! He counts Whitney as a major musical influence, and you can hear it when he sings. Check it out!

Let's vote for Whitney at this new Diva Madness poll! (Thanks Tod)

    2000/1/13

New Concert Audio! Listen to Whitney sing the following songs from her May 13, 1997 concert in Tokyo:

  • I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) excerpt - "It's the light of God that shows me how."
  • Count On Me - with CeCe Winans
  • In Return - Whitney joins CeCe at the end and they hold a note together.
  • All At Once excerpt
  • I Love The Lord
  • Greatest Love Of All - when Bobbi Kristina used to have a little stage fright.
  • Saving All My Love For You excerpt
    (Thank you Rachel)

Chart News: MLIYL flies up TWENTY notches on the Billboard 200, and ILFTB takes a big bow on the Dance Music/Club Play chart on the strength of the song's fabulous new remixes. Read the complete statistics...

Here's a bit about Whitney singing the U.S. National Anthem this weekend from the New York Daily News that also serves as a TV Reminder: Roy Jones Jr. ... won't be the only star at Radio City Music Hall when he defends Jan. 15 vs. David Telesco. National anthem will be sung by Whitney Houston, which makes up for Elvir Muriqi being unable to appear on undercard. (Thanks Rachel) The event is scheduled to air at 10 p.m. EST that day on HBO. Hopefully Whitney's performance will be televised.

Energy108 Toronto Radio comments: After the overwhelming success of the MLIYL song on Energy Radio's airwaves, they have a renewed interest in the INRBIO song -- specifically, the remix. They put the song on heavy rotation! They have not played ILFTB yet, though. (Thanks Rachel)
  • 2000/1/12
On December 29th, I called Arista Records, and a representative confirmed that ILFTB was Whitney's final MLIYL single, and the Greatest Hits will be released during the 2nd or 3rd week of March. (Thanks Jace M.) With any luck, maybe they've change their minds by now. The power of wishful thinking...

According to Arista's singles department, there is still no release date for an ILFTB single in the U.S. because they are waiting to see if radio gets behind the song. So if you want the single, you should request the song. (Thanks X)

VH-1 Divas Live/99 has finally been released in France! The French edition has a special sticker that is the size of the CD. The album is in collaboration with French radio station "Europ 2." (Thanks Julian S.)

Radio NRJ has established their "Euro Hot 100 Songs of 1999," (NRJ is in all European countries and this is the list of their most played songs of '99) and guess who is No. 1!
    1) My Love Is Your Love
    49) It's Not Right But It's Okay
    99) I Learned From The Best
Whitney and Britney Spears were the only artists to have 3 songs on the list! On this week's NRJ "Euro Hot 30 Songs," ILFTB is down to No. 6 from No. 5 and INRBIO is down to No. 30 from No. 18. (Thanks Julian S.)

German and French Chart News Updates...

  • Best Singer
  • Best Diva
  • Latest and Greatest Diva
  • Favorite Diva
  • Absolute Favorite Artist of All Time - obviously by a Whitney fan!
  • Best Solo Female Artist
    (Thanks Francis L.)

New Audio! Listen to portions of the following DJ-only and bootleg remixes:

  • I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) - Ultimix Remix
  • Step By Step - Masterbeat Remix
  • You'll Never Stand Alone - M2 Radio Mix
  • You'll Never Stand Alone - Jungle Mix (This one is great!)
    (Thank you Rachel)

Whitney has been nominated as Best International Singer - Female, at Germany's Echo Awards. The awards are given by the German Phono Academy. The other nominated singers are Cher, Madonna, Alanis Morissette and Britney Spears. The show will take place at the Congress Centre in Hamburg, Germany on March 9th. I donīt know whether Whitney will attend. (Thanks Sylvie)

Calling All Whitney Fans! Please go and vote for Whitney at the TMF web site. Then maybe Whitney can win a TMF music award! You can vote (only in the BLUE frame!!!) by selecting "Jouw suggestie" and filling in Whitney's name for each of the following categories:
  • "Beste Zangeres" (best female singer)
  • "Beste Live-act" (best live act)
  • "Beste R&B-act" (best R&B act)
  • "Beste Album" (best album)
  • "Beste Single" (best single)
  • "Beste Videoclip" (best video)
Then fill in an imaginary name, address, etc., and your votes will be sent. "Jouw suggestie" = Your suggestion!!! It is important that you vote ONLY in the blue part, not in the red, because that stands for Dutch artists! (Thanks Foekje A.)

"I Learned From The Best" is at No. 8 on the Spanish charts even though the song is not played enough on the radio (I should say it's not been played). It's been in the Top 10 for four weeks. The single has sold out in the music shops. Whitney is also between the best selling singers of 1999 in Spain. INRBIO reached No. 11 and WYB was No. 19. Spain supports Whitney because her singles are sold quickly and the MLIYL special edition was sold out in a matter of days. But after about 40 concerts in Europe, Spain was forgotten in her MLIYL tour and in the 1998 mini-tour. We would like to know what is going on with Ariola BMG Spain. (Thanks Laura)

Here's a poll regarding the Greatest Hits package release. (Thanks Foekje A.)

    UK Chart News Update...

One of Poland's largest radio stations, RMF-FM, announced the biggest hits of the '90s. They were the listeners' choices. Whitney's "My Love Is Your Love" came in at No. 38, and "I Will Always Love You" was No. 8! Whitney was the only female singer with two songs on the chart. (Thanks Sylwia)

Here's what the Arabic version Whitney's debut album looks like because of cultural and religious dressing rules for women: Picture 1 and Picture 2. (Thanks Rachel)

New "I Learned From The Best" Remixes! Listen to the latest HQ2 remixes by Hex Hector and Mac Quayle, which are available now on U.S. double 12" promos. Club devotees should definitely check out the ILFTB HQ2 Vocal Remix, which has a lot more to it than the very edited HQ2 Radio Mix that is already available at this site. HQ2 even turns Whitney's breathing into a cold shudder! For those who like a more direct approach, the ILFTB HQ2 Mixshow covers the main points of the Vocal Remix. New Yorkers can buy the promo at Vinyl Mania (60 Carmine Street) in the Village. If you're going to try to buy it there, you should call first to make sure that it's in stock. There were only two left on the rack today.

  • ILFTB HQ2 Vocal Part 1 & 2
  • ILFTB HQ2 Mixshow
  • ILFTB HQ2 Dub Part 1 & 2
  • ILFTB HQ2 Mixshow Instrumental
  • ILFTB HQ2 Acappella
(Special thanks to Alan M. for pointing this out the other day.)

This month's issue of Vanity Fair magazine has an interesting article about Clive Davis and the founding of Arista Records. Naturally, there is a lengthy report on Whitney included. It's nothing new really, except for an interesting bit about what she will do if he is indeed ousted. The article says, "One contract BMG does not have to worry about is that of Whitney Houston; Dornermann (a European BMG executive) bought out her Clive keyman clause (which would allow her out of her Arista contract if Clive ever left) years ago." (Thanks Chase)

On today's American Top 40, Whitney's MLIYL climbed to No. 16! Not only is the song still climbing the chart, but they played the remix version! (I think it was the Jonathan Peters remix.) On Rick Dees' Top 40 countdown, they played a snip of "So Emotional" because it was No. 1 twelve years ago this week. (Thanks Saira)

French Radio NRJ confirmed this morning that Whitney will attend the "1st NRJ Music Awards!" The ceremony will take place in Cannes, France, on January 22. The most important international and national stars will be present. The radio ad says: "Meet Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias, Lauryn Hill, Madonna,Will Smith and much, much more!" The ceremony will be broadcast live on TF1. (Thanks Julian S.)

TV Reminder: Whitney will appear on the United Negro College Fund's "An Evening Of Stars" telethon this weekend. Be sure to check your local listings for air times in your respective areas.

Whitney has done some great work on the 1999 German charts. MLIYL is No. 5 on the Singles chart and INRBIO is at No. 83. As we know, the MLIYL album ranks at No. 3 for the year. (Thanks Maharaj)

In the January 17th issue of People, there is a beautiful picture of Whitney at the MTV Europe Music Awards in the style watch section of the magazine. The article, about beaded and rhinestone belts, refers to Whitney as a Dolce & Gabbana devotee and quotes her as saying, "They work well for me onstage, or if I'm going out, I can put them over a pair of jeans." (Thanks John G.)

After many weeks at the top of France's Fun Radio "Fun list," INRBIO is down to No. 2. Let's all vote for Whitney at this site! We can vote for her up to five times. (Thanks Julian S.)

Since the the following reporter is not a run-of-the-mill gossip hack, and she reports for a top morning show, I'm posting this. Keep in mind that Whitney's camp has not said a word so far on this subject. It echoes what the fans have been saying this week:
According to Claudia Cohen, entertainment reporter on the morning show, Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, there is controversy surrounding Whitney's Grammy nominations for the MLIYL album. According to Cohen's report, Whitney says she was completely overlooked in the major categories. This is somewhat similar to the year when the "Preacher's Wife" soundtrack was not nominated in any gospel category. But Whitney is happy for the nominations she did receive and is scheduled to perform on the show. (Thanks Jay)

    2000/1/6
From the New York Daily News: Whitney Houston will sing the National Anthem at Radio City Music Hall's first foray into live major sporting events when light-heavyweight champ Roy Jones Jr. fights David Telesco on Jan. 15.
(Thank you Nikki) The event is scheduled to air at 10 p.m. EST that day on HBO. Hopefully Whitney's performance will be televised.

Chart News: MLIYL finally takes a dip on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Check out the complete statistics...

As a result of this chart drop, it is now finally time to focus completely on the growth of "I Learned From The Best." Check out the Whitney Weekday Request Campaign list for the phone numbers and e-mail addresses of radio stations across the country where we can request this song. I suggest that we start with New York City first since it is the largest media market in the country, and it is very receptive to Whitney's music. In the meantime, I will be revamping the request campaign again this weekend to ensure that we are fully prepared.

I found the latest ILFTB remixes in New York City on a two record set. I was told that the Junior Vasquez remixes are coming shortly. These are the new HQ2 remixes:
  • Dub 8:45
  • Mixshow Instrumental 6:10
  • Acappella 4:17
  • Vocal 10:25
  • Mixshow 6:10
  • Radio 4:19
    (Thank you Alan M.)

Great News: It's all about Whitney in New York! WKTU 103.5 FM, New York's premier Pop/Dance station, debuted ILFTB on Tuesday at midday to rave reviews by both the DJs as well as listeners. Since then, the song has been played constantly. As if that were not enough, the station still has MLIYL and INRBIO in heavy rotation! (Thanks John G.)

There is a small quote from Whitney in the February issue of Ebony Magazine. Whitney said her favorite love song is "I'm Coming Back" by Lalah Hathaway. She said Bobby used to play that song for her when they first met and when they started dating. (Thanks Nikki)

This morning, MTV News Brief showed a clip of Monica, who mentioned that she will be starring in the movie "Angel of Mine," which is being produced by Whitney's BrownHouse Productions. She stated that Whitney has a phenomenal movie company and usually Disney picks them up. She said that they don't like her to talk much about it but she is very excited. They also had another interview with Rodney Jerkins in which the interviewer mentioned that he is nominated for a Grammy for his work on Whitney's hit single INRBIO. (Thanks Carolyn)

According to a press release that lauds Soulshock & Karlin for the nominations of Whitney's "Heartbreak Hotel," the duo is preparing to record with Whitney's group, Sunday, among others. It looks like Sunday is officially in development.

Here's more positive press for Clive Davis from the New York Daily News: The Grammy Award nominations were good news for embattled Arista Records chief Clive Davis and bad news for the label's owner, BMG, which is trying to get rid of him. Davis' name appears on no less than three separate Grammy nominations: Album of the Year, for producing Santana's "Supernatural," Rock Album of the Year, for the same record, and R&B Album of the Year, for producing Whitney Houston's "My Love Is Your Love." Not bad for a record executive who's being called too old by his bosses.
  • 2000/1/5

From Mirabella Magazine: The December/January issue features an article ("The Queens And I") all about divas, which includes an interview with Whitney. It's rather lengthy, so I've highlighted the sections that mention Whitney specifically. However, it's worth a full reading. Some parts of it are slightly dated and a little off, but other parts about divahood are right on target. It's an interesting read and it took nearly forever to type, so be sure to take a look!

Here's a great picture from the Mirabella article too!

The performers so far for the American Music Awards were announced today. Whitney was not one of them, which is not a surprise because she has been confirmed as a performer for the Grammy Awards. The Grammys have a rule that prevents AMA performers from singing on the Grammy broadcast.

The Billboard Year-End polls finally closed! Due to our votes, Whitney's MLIYL album came in at NUMBER ONE on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hip Albums for 1999 poll with 42.7% of the votes! Whitney's single, "Heartbreak Hotel," finished at No. 3 with 6.6% of the votes on the Billboard Hot 100 poll. Many thanks to all the devoted fans who supported Whitney!

Whitney is very succesful in Switzerland: On the Swiss charts for 1999, "My Love Is Your Love" reached No. 5 and "When You Believe" was No. 6! (Thanks Fanny)

Dutch TV station TMF broadcasted the Top 1000 of the Millennium, and Whitney appeared four times in the list:
    1) I Will Always Love You - No. 104
    2) When You Believe - No. 465
    3) My Love Is Your Love - No. 577
    4) I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) - No. 634

They also broadcasted the 100 Best Selling Singles of 1999. "My Love Is Your Love" landed at No. 8. It had stayed in the Top 40 for 19 weeks and reached No. 3. (Thanks Zuzy)

Estonian radio station Uuno played Millennium songs -- 2000 songs for almost 7 days -- and Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" held the seventh place among the songs! And by the way, I saw Whitney open the "Cyber Era" in Hong Kong on the Worldwide Millennium program on TV, and a laser show began after that. (Thanks Helle)

VIVA-TV, Germany, showed a very short clip today of Whitney's live performance at her private Hong Kong millennium concert. Some sound could be heard from "Greatest Love Of All." (Thanks Tobias G.)

    2000/1/4
Grammy Award Nominations: Whitney has been nominated for 4 Grammy Awards! Plus, "Heartbreak Hotel," "It's Not Right But It's Okay" and "When You Believe" garnered songwriting nominations. Unfortunately, Whitney was mostly overlooked in the Pop categories, and only her remixers received nominations in the Dance categories. The song "My Love Is Your Love" missed the Grammys' September 30th deadline to be eligible this year. Read the nominations...

According to Entertainment Tonight, Whitney will perform at the Grammy Awards which will air February 23rd on CBS-TV. (Thanks Jay, Enrico S.)

French Chart News! Read the details...

Whitney has been nominated as Best Female International Artist and for International Album of the Year at France's NRJ Music Awards! The awards will be held on January 22.

I was watching a French TV show tonight called "The Best Duos" and Whitney and Mariah Carey's "When You Believe" was of course one of them. The show presented about 200 duets. They were introduced as the two most beautiful voices on Earth! They said this song was more than a marketing song -- that there were really great feelings between the two singers. (Thanks Julian S.)
    2000/1/3
Here's a great article that finally gives some information about Whitney's upcoming Greatest Hits project!
Read the full details! Here are the main points:
    1) The Greatest Hits will be a two-disc set, tentatively scheduled for release March 7. Sources at Arista said one disc will cover ballads and downtempo material and the other will cover dance tracks.
    2) The article speaks highly of the "I Learned From The Best" HQ2 Radio Mix and Junior Vasquez Club Mix, and says Arista indicated it will release the song commercially.
    3) Whitney says she will include dance songs on upcoming albums, but "it's all about timing." (Thank you Joe P.)

According to BMG, Whitney's "My Love is Your Love" album has sold 10 million copies worldwide! (Thanks Francis L.)

Whitney's MLIYL album is nearly at 5x platinum in Germany, which means it has sold about 2.5 million copies! Furthermore, at CD stores in Germany (mostly SATURN) there is special edition of the MLIYL album that hides Whitney's name behind a sticker that says "THE VOICE." I think it's a millennium edition but the picture and everything else is the same. (Thanks Sebastian, Sara)

Song of the Week: The latest addition to the Whitney Worship Webpage music section is Whitney's rendition of the gospel song "He's Sweet I Know" from her August 28, 1999 concert in Mannheim, Germany. I've never heard her sing this song before! Enjoy!

And these additonal audio files from the Mannheim concert have been made available exclusively to mailing list members today:
    1) If I Told You That
    2) Saving All My Love For You
    3) Until You Come Back
    4) I Learned From The Best
    5) Step By Step
    6) My Love Is Your Love (featuring Bobbi Kristina)
    7) I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)
    8) How Will I Know
    9) I Love The Lord
    10) It's Not Right But It's Okay

    Chart News:
MLIYL shoots up the UK Top 75 Albums chart, ILFTB moves up...

This weekend I was listening to the second half of the World Chart Show year-end countdown and Whitney had 3 songs on it. MLIYL came in at No. 45, INRBIO at No. 22 and WYB at No. 21. WYB was the highest year-end song for both Whitney and Mariah. (Thanks Carolyn)

According to newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, the MLIYL album reached No. 15 and the single reached No. 8 overall for 1999 in the Netherlands. In addition, TMF Music Television said "When You Believe" reached No. 51 and "It's Not Right But It's Okay" came in at No. 90. (Thanks Bas)

Great Work Everyone! Because of our votes, Whitney's INRBIO won About.com's Dance Music poll! Here's what they say: "And in a last minute victory, "It's Not Right" by Whitney Houston surged ahead by more than a thousand votes to wrest the award from "Turn Me On" by Danny Tenaglia, who beat out an early lead by "Big Love" and Peter Heller." Voting does make a difference!
    2000/1/2
No other album has been on the 1999 German Charts longer than Whitney's "My Love Is Your Love." It is No. 3 on Germany's list of best selling LPs. (Thanks Tobias)

According to a Swiss magazine, "My Love Is Your Love" was the fifth most sold single in Switzerland. "When You Believe" was sixth. The album placed at No. 8 on the 1999 charts. (Thanks Chris)

In Atlanta, GA, this past weekend V-103 ran their Top 50 songs of the decade, and "I Will Always Love You" was NUMBER ONE! "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" was No. 34. But on BET's 100 videos of the century, IWALY was No. 51. (Thanks Issac)
    2000/1/1
    Happy New Year!

New Screen Captures: Take a look at Whitney counting down the final seconds of the millennium in Hong Kong yesterday! Plus, check out these pictures of Whitney from the Grammys Greatest Moments special!

Apparently, ABC-TV did not cover millennium festivities from Hong Kong yesterday. I didn't notice any footage on their network from the event. They also didn't mention Whitney's name among the artists who appeared during their stellar 24-hour millennium coverage, even though she had been advertised some time ago. It appears the only network to show Whitney in Hong Kong was NBC-TV, but I only saw a brief clip. Her private concert apparently was just that, because they only showed Whitney during Hong Kong's millennium countdown.

I saw Whitney live in Hong Kong. She repeated the "compte a rebours" for the millenium. She looked great and her hair was similar to the Divas Live/99 show. (Thanks Lucas)

Whitney achieved two spots on Grammys Greatest Moments' Pop Female Vocal countdown. She reached No. 5 for her Grammy performance of "Greatest Love Of All" and NUMBER ONE for her 1994 performance of "I Will Always Love You." Whitney, Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin were the only artists recognized for two performances on the show. [Personally, I've always found Whitney's performance of "One Moment In Time" to be superior to the performances of GLOA and IWALY. In that case, she should have had three spots instead of two!]

While voting online for the MTV Asia reigning female artists in the Year 2000, you can click the submit button once and then hit the space bar over and over to send multiple votes rather than having to wait for the response screen to load, click "back" and do it again. Just do it fast enough so that the response screen doesn't have time to load. You'll notice that your votes still count this way! If we all do this, we can beat everyone for sure! (Thanks Eric)
[We can see if this works for other polls too. This may be the trick some non-Whitney fans have been using to generate unusually large numbers for other artists.]

NBC-TV has begun advertising the United Negro College Fund's "An Evening Of Stars" telethon, which airs January 9th at 12 p.m. EST in New York City. They showed a very brief concert clip of Whitney singing ILFTB in the commercial, but there is no confirmation that it will be the performance they will air during the show. Check your local listings! The show will air at different times across the country.
