"I heard it through the Grapevine"

Posted by The Fan on October 23, 1998:

If you need to know, Whitney did not need Mariah to make this song. Why? When Whitney opens the song, you are just hanging on every word, and she does take you with the words. Her voice is so strong/powerful and rich, she really does sing this song, nothing to do with outsinging Mariah, she just sang, so much ease and the effect in my opinion is remarkable, listen to her...

Mariah, was threatened, because, she did not keep the tune as Whitney had started. I felt that she lost the tune, everytime in an attempt to go higher, than Whitney. Whitney does anchor the song, she maintain the tune when things were not together. I do wish that Mariah could have kept it mid to,that way the meaning of the song is still there. She did that at a point in the song then she lost it.

You all might think i am not a Mariah Fan, but she was my first true love in music, that is why i think Whitney should have sang it alone, she is so much more pleasant to listen to, especially with theme of the song..... i also don't think they blend well together as everyone seems to want to believe. If you want to listen to blending, then Barbra and Celine blended bettertogether, i wish it would have been barbra and whitney - celine and mariah
