The Preacher's Wife Soundtrack Reviews

Subject: Bryan's PW OST Review

I bought the Preacher's Wife Soundtrack the day it came out and I got mixed feelings. First of all, the opening track, "I Believe In You and Me", the movie version, was really disappointing. She seemed to do a lot of voice tricks and wasn't demonstrating the power and emotion of her previous singles, "Count On Me" and "Exhale". But once I got to the second track, "Step By Step" I was glad to see Whitney was returning to her dance stuff. Personally, I think that she is great at this type of music and "Step By Step" shows Whitney's ability to emote in ballads and sing dance music.

The next four gospel tracks are pretty good. I'm not really a fan of gospel but Whitney seems to sing it with such ease and adds a pop feeling to it in a way.

Track 7 though is very disappointing. I think that "Somebody Bigger Than You And I" wasn't well written or sung either. The use of New Edition and Monica didn't help either. But that's just one track out of the next tracks which are wonderful. "You Were Loved" goes back to Whitney's ballads and it reminded me of "Count On Me" earlier this year which demonstrates her vocal power. "My Heart Is Calling" is very easy listening and relaxing, not the best track but it's okay. IT has that Babyface R&B feel.

But I think it's track 10, the single version of "I Believe In You and Me" which is the climax of the whole record. David Foster's production really brings out Whitney's vocal power even more so than track 8's "You Were Loved". The "Step By Step" Remix, though, is not as good as the original version or the other remixes, if you've purchased any of the "Step By Step" singles. If you have, then watch out for "Soul Solution Diva Vocal" and "Junior Vasquez Arena anthem" on the part 2 cd. They are the best. The next few gospel tracks are good but why "Joy to the World" as a closing track?

Overall, I think that WHitney should try new styles of music and this is a great record in terms of satisfying her fans and herself at the same time. Go buy it if you havent already.
