At last!

Posted by Scott on February 19, 1999:

It's Not Right, But It's Okay:
This one took a while to grow on me. Now that I've owned the album a couple months it's starting to grow on me. B

Heartbreak Hotel:
See that this is on the charts this week (#3!) Her voice sounds ok, but the feel of the song is depressing.....title says it all! B

My Love Is Your Love:
Feels good. The background chorus is reminiscent of the Preacher's Wife......which I loved! A-

When You Believe:
Smooooth duet by two of the best. Whitney sounds good harmonizing as an alto. Maybe doesn't rate up there with all time greatest duets like "Endless Love", but solid! A

If I Told You That:
A bit like track #1....takes some getting used to, but growing on me! Not crazy about her strained voice in the bridge on this one. B-

In My Business:
Horrendous! What were they thinking. That rap by Missy Elliott sends me searching for the remote everytime! A cheap waste of Whitney's pipes. D-

I Learned From The Best:
Cool. Smooth. Relaxing. Not going to be a top 10 hit, but very listenable. I like the lyrics. A-

Oh Yes:
Goes on far too long. All that time later, not sure what the intent or meaning was behind this one. C

Get It Back:
Another flop with Missy Elliott. D

Until You Come Back:
Classic Whitney. I wish this album had more of these ballads that showcase her voice, and less of the edgy, angry, music like tracks #6, #9. A

I Bow Out:
I like the violins. I like the tempo. B+

You'll Never Stand Alone:
I love, love, love this tribute to her daughter!!! Excellent lyrics, great vocal performance. Whitney is sounding best in her mid-range these days. A+

I Was Made To Love Him:
Not a bad bonus......harmonica adds that disctinctive Stevie Wonder feel. B

Overall impressions on MLIYL:
I won't wear this one out like I did with the Bodyguard CD. Whitney does seem to be trying to expand her appeal to a more black audience...not that there's anything wrong with that. This album missed the mark with me on several tracks, but I'm still not sorry I bought it. The diva rules!
