tiring new sound

Posted by J on December 29, 1998:

It's Not Right, But It's Okay:
catchy

My Love Is Your Love:
original, but not a hit

When You Believe:
A miracle that whitney and mariah are finally on the same record. It's a nice ballad, I'm glad to see that whitney can still challenge herself in terms of lung power

I Learned From The Best:
strong vocals, but after several listens, you get a headache

Until You Come Back:
one of the album's better songs.

Overall impressions on MLIYL:
Being a lifelong WH fan, I've heard her voice grow from sweet-and-safe to the raunchy, raw sound on MLIYL. Her voice has changed and "matured," giving it a richer, different flavor.

Still, I remember the awesome power of her voice from the Bodyguard days, and I wish she'd be able to display the same range and quality of her early years ("All at Once," "Didn't We Almost Have it All.") Especially beautiful was her rendition of "Jesus Loves Me" on the Bodyguard sdtrk.... she delivered some real soul and feeling, without sacrificing the incredible quality of her voice. Whitney used to be able to hit some real high notes, but things have changed and smoking probably hasnt helped her voice at all.
