It's Not Right, But It's Okay:
Pretty cool. Rodney Jerkins seems to repeat himself a little, wouldn't you say?
Heartbreak Hotel:
Very smooth groove. I can't believe this is a Whitney song. Very nice.
My Love Is Your Love:
My favourite song from this album. Incredible production, haunting melody and lyrics. UNBELIEVABLE. I hope this is released next. This could be a GIGANTIC HIT!!
When You Believe:
Whitney at the beginning and very end, are the classic voice we love. The rest of the song leaves something to be desired, but it is the only true POP ballad on the album...it has the most crossover potential, and it looks like it will be huge.
If I Told You That:
Beginning and most of the song are very cool, I could see an excellent dance mix, however towards the end, it gets somewhat redundant and boring.
In My Business:
Nothing. Missy can do a lot better than this - see Nicole or Total.
I Learned From The Best:
Verses, incredible. Chorus sounded rather strained. Ending note, subtle and beautiful.
Oh Yes:
OKAY
Until You Come Back:
Different, some of Whitney's power came back.
I Bow Out:
Not much
You'll Never Stand Alone:
Chorus a little boring, melodically, but Whitney's vocal sounds very nice.
I Was Made To Love Him:
INCREDIBLE. Lauryn Hill is a genius, and Whitney sounds perfect for the material.
Overall impressions on MLIYL:
This is one of the first Whitney albums, which flows. There is a theme, and an ebb to it, not just a collection of songs, not disjointed like earlier albums. Production values are excellent. Whitney's voice has changed. There are hints of her old style, and there are moments of glory with this new style (MLIYL). I love this woman; noone's voice has ever compared to Whitney's at her peak performance, for power, depth, beauty, or range - I wish she would care for her voice, so that she is capable of her old material as well as the new styles. A good album, which will be quite successful in the US especially.
