It's Not Right, But It's Okay:
New sound. One of the best cuts in the album.
Heartbreak Hotel:
Great harmony. Whitney is reduced to back-up vocals on this one.
My Love Is Your Love:
I love the beat! I guess this will become a radio favorite but will not be well-appreciated by fans who long for the "classic" Whitney
When You Believe:
I think Whitney overshadows Mariah here. Her voice is more powerful and imposing. Mariah's voice tends to crack a bit in the high notes (note how she strains in the line of "summer birds") I have all of Mariah's albums, too
If I Told You That:
Great beat. Not my favorite though.
In My Business:

I Learned From The Best:
Ihave always correctly predicted which of Whitney's songs make the top 5. This is a surefire hit!
Oh Yes:
Nice R&B sound. The Oh,yes lyrics though is too repetitive and annoying.
Get It Back:

Until You Come Back:
Whitney belts it out like a true diva. But where's the soul? It's unemotional.
I Bow Out:
I love this one. This has top 10 potential.
You'll Never Stand Alone:
Classic Whitney and Dianne Warren. This can make Celine Dion envious. A potential #1 hit.
I Was Made To Love Him:
Nice groove! Too R&B and hip-hop though for my liking!
Overall impressions on MLIYL:
Whitney's voice has certainly matured. It has a slightly raspy quality to it, which I actually am beginning to appreciate more as I get used to it. Sure, she doesn't hit extremely high notes as effortlessly as she used to when she was 23 yrs old, but hey...she's now singing with more feelings.( Occasionally though she still belts it out like she wields a sledgehammer). She proves with this album that she can still whip up a storm with her voice, which is still peerless inspite of its slight flaws. People complain that she sounds different, a little hoarse...a little strained. I see it as a necessary effect of age and maturation, which is a welcome change for me. I wasn't expecting her to have that girlish tone anymore. Mariah Carey does sound great, too, but if you haven't noticed, her voice is also undergoing the same change as Whitney's. I believe she has lost much of that power and range that rivaled Whitney's voice 8 years ago when she debuted with Vision of Love. This has been evident in her Butterfly album, where she sighs and whispers in an annoyingly strained voice. Her live performances lately make me squirm like expecting her to croak anytime. I noticed that her high notes are likewise overproduced (reverberated or overdubbed) to simulate some ease. I now miss the younger Mariah voice, just like the way I miss the younger Whitney voice. But we have to accept that...their voices will also change with time. As for Celine Dion...she has a shrill voice that soars, but let's face it, her technique is plain and lacks sophistication compared to Whitney and Mariah. I do love her her though and like for Whittney and Mariah, I also have all her albums to prove that.
