She Gave Her Best.

It's Not Right, But It's Okay:
I was totally shocked at the blatant imitation of the "Boy is Mine" intro. On this song, Whitney manages to "squirt" out some high notes. Though her voice is clearer than what it has been, it still sounds somewhat phlegmy and constricted. Personally I think this comes from her smoking cigarettes and her unwillingness to moniter her health.
Heartbreak Hotel:
Faith Evans shines on this song. The song is really smooth and I like the lyrics. I wish that Kelly Price would have sung more.
Whitney should try to learn more "runs" or "riffs", which ever you prefer. That downward pentatonic run that she always does is getting old. It really contrasts with Faith's more jazzlike improvisatory running style
My Love Is Your Love:
Beautiful. The title track possesses the most haunting and beautiful lyrics that Whitney has ever uttered.
Wyclef did a good job.
When You Believe:
That song is so tired and uninspiring. People keep saying that its full of emotion but everytime I hear the song i never feel it. I don't think that just because somebody does some grunts and growls or some riffs and runs that that qualifies as emotional expression.
I love whitney dearly, but Mariah sings the song with a lot more emotional conviction. However, the song is still not good.
If I Told You That:
I like this song. When first listening to the album, this song gave me hope that Whitney's voice was going to give more than what it gave on the previous 5 songs. I like the fact that she holds the notes (or at least trys to) until their completion. I like the beats too.
In My Business:
Missy+Whitney=whack! What happened to Missy's creativity? Her music is becoming less and less "inspired". So predictable.
I hate Whitney having to sing those lyrics.
This song destroyed my hope.(frown)
I Learned From The Best:
This song was hyped for no reason. I was expecting so much more from a David Foster production. That last note everyones been raving about wasn't s***!
In fact, it was probably the worst falsetto ending note that i heard whitney do. Someone said that she held the ending not like she did in TGLA. I wonder what song they heard?
If David Foster cried when producing this song for Whitney, the tears probably came from his sadness knowing that Whitney can't do what she used to do. They were tears of pity.
Oh Yes:
You already learned my equation for Missy and Whitney.
Get It Back:
Whitney sings kinda of better with Jerkins for some reason. However, he's really repetitive with his.
I must admit that i do like the orchestral and piano sounds in his tracks
Until You Come Back:
This is Whitney's best vocal performance on the album. I like the jazzy/ churchy feel that it has.
You get a slight hint of the power that she used to have in the upper register.
I Bow Out:
I like this. However, I do find song's title hauntingly ironic.
Perhaps Whitney should consider bowing out of singing. At least untill her voice REALLY comes back.
You'll Never Stand Alone:
Nice. I don't know what else to say
I Was Made To Love Him:
This is the most soulful and interesting song on the album. Lauren did a good job.
Whitney did a good job with singing the lyrics seeing that they're different from what she's used to.
Someone who was singing background in the song can really BLOW. They sounded young but with a mature sound. They even showed up Whitney in my opinion.
Whitney sounds like her mouth was ON the mike or something. It was kind of muffled sounding.
Overall impressions on MLIYL:
I woke up first thing in the morning to buy this Cd, so excusme if I sound a little coarse with my review of the album. I absolutely love Whitney. However, I am not so enamored with her not to see that she no longer has the vocal grandeur that she used to. Her vocal performance on MLIYL granted is better than what it has been in a while, but it was nothing like the Bodyguard and earlier 80's eras. Listening to the album, I found myself overjoyed if Whitney was able to just HOLD a note. Like it was some grand achievement. I must say, however, that she gave her best. She gave us the best of what is left of her voice. I will enjoy the album knowing that. I wish her all the best success on this album for which I believe she deserves for her strong effort. I only wish that someone close to Whitney would tell her or Whitney herself realize that she has got to STOP smoking, stop drinking, get some sleep, eat right and spare herself as much emotional turmoil as she can.Because her voice is DYING because of those things. If she does not have the discipline or will to take care of her voice then she should Bow Out for the sake or her reputation as a singer and in respect for the fans who PAY MONEY to hear. MYLIYL gets an A for effort and a C- for vocal content. However, I will always love her.
