Whitney Houston
Just Whitney (BMG/Arista, pounds 13.99)
Whitney's comeback album might have been the perfect opportunity to reinvent
herself for the new millennium. She could have got one of the super-producers,
such as maybe the Neptunes, on board, acquired the melodic interest she never
really had, and come up with a hit as infectious as Survivor or Bills Bills
Bills. Instead, her response has been to churn out more of the same, only
this time with added vitriol and defensiveness (eg Whatchulookinat).
